I have seen some waivers that include provisions for the person partaking in the event to agree to pay any judgement, court fees, and laywer's fees if the company providing the service (the DZ in this case) is sued. That being said, if your family sues over your death your estate would then be responsible to pay the judgement. That would prevent the family from accomplishing the goal of taking any money from the DZ. At our DZ the typical practice is to dedicate a person who is not on the load to do the radio. If there is no one available then one of the instructors will do it, but in that case most of the time they land out where students (and most other people) land. I think there is importance in having a student's instructor land near where the student does or at least get over there before the student lands. I may not have much time in the sport, but I do know that regardless of how much experience a person has as an instructor you can't know what a person is doing wrong if you can't see them doing it wrong, at that point all you can do is assume (lots of experience can lead the right assumptions, but is this really how we ought to learn). I don't say this to put down on instructors, in fact I hold a lot of respect for them and this is a thing that most of the instructors that I know do. Pack for myself. I would be spending way too much money if I used a packer as it is this is expensive. I really don't mind packing, it doesn't take that long to do once you get the hang of it and most of the people at my DZ who aren't instructors pack for themselves. The packers we tend to have around on a weekend are kept busy enough with student rigs, tandems, and instructor rigs. If you sit around waiting for one of them you won't be on the plane all day. I have peaked 100 in my truck before but I don't really like to do it that often. It might be different if I had a car. I have had my share of speeding tickets as well. 4th year Business Student at Marquette University Working on a degree in Business Adm. Major is IT. Choose it because it allways came naturally to me and I found it fun and interesting. I like that my degree is not just like comp sci though. You are feeling the acceleration that your body is going through as you begin to move faster towards the water. Like said above the amount of "falling sensation" that you feels depends on the different vectors of movement and I would suspect at least minimally the degree to which you are prepared for the acceleration. The body notices it more when you have a sudden change in movement due to acceleration. Gravity is always acting on us, but as long as there is a force stoping it from moving us we do not accelerate. When the force is removed that prevents us from being moved we accelerate. If you are on a platform that gradually starts moving down with no jolts and slowly speeds up you wont feel the effects of it as much as if the platform suddenly droped out from under you.
