I like to dig around in the cupboards and just kinda mix and match till I find something that tastes good. I cook for just me mostly so if its crappy I just eat ramen. If its good I commit it to memory for next time. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. And here I thought that most people hated politics/drama at the dropzone.... ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka

Beer is provided by either someone who owes or we take up a small collection and buy a bunch for whoever is around after jumping. No one ever really pays that much. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. :14:1 Yeah well.... anyways, got in 14 jumps this weekend, 6 of which were for a 4-way meet (My first.) Had a great time, actually having a serious straight forward goal for the whole day made the day go by real fast. Overall a great weekend.... I think there were a few DZ.commers there but I was too caught up in what I was doing to realize. Ah well. Next time. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Swooping is taking one last poke at the bear before escaping it's cave - davelepka

I agree that some people out there are very anti-religion and would love to see it go away. That being said, it seems to me that a lot of people who do not belive in any given religion do so because they feel that it is _only_ to keep anarchy at bay and does not have any real substance backing it. Regarding the original topic of this thread I think you are somewhat right in your assesment that it is based on people wanting to not go extinct. How often do people adress the topic of how things will be for "your children." It is a part of our existance to want to stay in exisance (There by god or nature whatever) and that is part of the morality. We ought to be moral because it is a way to help ensure our survival. It helps life to be "better" for everyone. Your question doesn't really ask what is moral, where morality comes from, or who is right when it comes to what is considred moral so I won't go there. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I don't know... I personally don't give a shit about who he was sleeping with. He did an Ok job running the country. I say 'ok' because there isn't really a way to make everyone happy. There will always be people who disagree and people who agree with what is being done by the president. (One of the pluses of being a democratic society.) I certainly don't think he did any worse than the rest of em. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. We mostly close the door on takeoff but depending on who is sitting by the door and how warm it is someone might 'foot' it and let it be open a few inches for some circulation. After 1k on a warm day we open it till everyone cools off. We did some loads on a borrowed otter and most of them were with the door open, makes you a little more nervous about losing a PC out the door but if anyone asked for it to be closed down it went. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Comebacks for skydiving criticism?
Fast replied to mt_skydiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, I have to agree with that. At least for me skydiving has changed my outlook on things and what I can do. Opens up more posibility to me. It didn't make me 'better' than anyone other than the pre-skydiving me. Some of my attitudes, mannerisms, views of things have changed as a result of the things I have experienced over the last year. (But, it doesn't make me better than anyone else) I agree with what everyone else has said. Most people just don't get it and probally never will, and thats fine. I don't bring it up with people I work with, they bring it up with me. My office is shared space in a converted conference room and there aren't windows as a result I have plastered my working area with pictures. The ones who bring it up do so because they think the pictures look cool and the people I share the room with often as me how my weekend was (as I do them) but I don't blab on about this or that with anyone really. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Well right now it is... I am actually sitting at my desk, looking down the hall out the window (Decent 12th floor view, just not from my office) at the rain rolling in. Was planning on leaving early to go jump but may not. HOWEVER.... The weather for tommorow looks awesome. High of 75, mild wind, not real cloudy. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. That makes it seem pretty far fetched. If he was banned from every DZ you would know the name, so would a lot more of us. Are you a "goal oriented" skydiver?
Fast replied to skybytch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would say that I am somewhat goal orientated. I have different levels of goals though. Broad ones, like become a better skydiver, and more specific ones, like get good at front float. The broad ones that I have are more my own and I have them because I know there is a direction that I want to go and it gives a little more purpose to the time I am spending skydiving (Not that you _need_ more purpose than having fun to skydive.) The more specific ones are ones that come up as I am jumping. I don't like to suck at something, I really don't like not being able to do something, and I can't stand failing at something. So when I mess up or find something I'm not so good at I make it my goal to be better. I got put on front float a few dives and consistantly screwed it up. Rather than not take that position so I wouldn't screw up as much I made a point to be a front float as much as I possibily can. I _am_ getting better at it, I still don't have it nailed like I would (and I wouldn't expect to at my #s) but I'm working on it. So yes, I have goals. I don't have a big chart or list of all of them though. They just kinda crop up in my mind as things to work on and then I work on them (in that sense I have a list but not in a bigger sense.) I personally think that there is quite a bit of importance of having some goals to work on so that you aren't just jumping without aim all the time. When you don't know what to work on just make some fun jumps with friends and you will find something that you need to get better at and then work at it. I show up at the DZ on friday or saturday with one thing in mind, jumping, and what I learn works itself out from there. Right now my 'little' goals include being proficient at front float, picking up my slot with the right level of agressivness in a timely fashion, and accuracy under canopy (need to work on my < 2m landings for the C lic and the event I have to land in a backyard). ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I have had like 6 or 7 full head MRIs (over the period from age 15-18ish) at least 3 with a contrast injection. In all honesty they aren't that bad. Never had an open one, all were the get put in the tube kind and I had my head strapped down so It wouldn't move. I don't think I was awake the whole time on any of them. The sound they make is kinda hypnotic. If you really have a problem with enclosed spaces the valium would help, but if you don't get bugged by that stuff there isn't much else to worry about. The "Bring a cd" suggestion is a good one because the tech will play it for you most likely. I doubt you could bring a CD player in the room because most CD players have metal that is affected by magnets in them (Motor) and I doubt it would work anyways. I think that the funiest thing about them is that it honestly is pretty loud and yet so easy to fall asleep. Wear ear plugs if they offer them its helpfull for the noise. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. I have pretty much packed for myself since I first got my Lic. I have only had a packer/other pack for me a few times since then when I was in a time crunch or had to get something else done in between jumps. It pays to pack for yourself when you get to the point where you want to cram more and more jumps in every day. I took off in our 182 watching the Caravan follow us down the runway, did a HNP from 4k landed, packed, and was on the caravan the next time it took off. I wouldn't of been able to if I waited for a packer. I didn't get signed off till I jumped my own packjob. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. don't forget the saying though... "the most dangerous way to learn something is with someone who hasn't done it before" i.e. you and your low timer buddy decide to try a sitfly, and one of you sinks under the other and corks... whereas a experienced jumper can keep himself from getting above a newbie sitflyer. I'm not saying that 2 lowtimers jumping together is unsafe or bad, you just have to be more careful. You aren't saying it but there are lots of people who have. I have 90% of my jumps RW, and do a little FF here and there when I just HAVE to be on the plane and there isn't anyone to do RW with. I won't FF with anyone who isn't good enough to stay with me and out of the way if I end up corking etc. Two low skill people trying to FF together IS a bad idea. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Who has to sign the waivers for under 18s?
Fast replied to Daryl87's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey TROLL BOY - this is a joke too far. Quite messing with people's lives. hey man if it worked for me it will work for him Not really the point. If your not 18 and your parents are not willing to sign the waiver don't push the subject. There are laws against forging a legally binding signature (its a felony actually) and tricking them into signing it is just about as stupid. So, either way... get the signature or wait it out. Don't mess around with it. ~D Where troubles melt like lemon drops Away above the chimney tops That's where you'll find me. Yah... I wouldn't call my home DZ a small one (I'm pretty sure its the biggest in wisconsin) and I'm sure if any of the people saying elsinore is small came to my DZ they wouldn't know what to say about it (actually I would guess they would think its a Tiny DZ) I have only been to one other DZ, they had 2 182s and lots of really nice people... My landings went from good to SPLAT! What to do??
Fast replied to ReLLiK75's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Getting video of your landings will let you see what your doing... but I think that the more important thing is having someone go over it with you. If you don't know what your looking for with the landings its hard to know what to change. I just took Scott's course, learned some very interesting and helpfull things in it, but to me the most important part was getting the landing videos broken down by someone who has a lot of experience looking at landing videos/landings. Even looking at your own video it seems common to make a mistake in thinking when you are trying to decide what your doing right or wrong. Get the video taken and then get someone to go over it with you too! -
F8ck him! Let him die, not my problem, not the DZ's problem.

I haven't because my DZ is cool... But if for some reason I had to SDC is only and extra hour or so.
