All registered voters in California get sample ballots, along with the information on whatever is on the ballot. The real ballot is on different paper, but not really different. Anyone who wants a mail in ballot can get one. I don't see much problem with the printing, at least in this state. I used to vote in person, at my polling place in someone's garage about 2 miles from home. At some point, it was decided that my neighborhood didn't have adequate population to have a designated local polling place (I do live in a town of over 1 million), so I am mailed a mail-in ballot. Never mailed in 20 years -- just dropped it at a polling place (school, condo complex, mosque, library drop box), since I rarely work my way through the issues in time to mail. This March I actually mailed it, since I was out of town travelling.

Nah, probably just the hydroxychloroquine.

More Bullying Tactics Against Small Business Owners

The Indicator had an interesting interview with a barber shop owner in Georgia when they re-opened 3 weeks ago. He is taking pretty good precautions. Probably no worse than being in a store where people are not wearing masks. https://www.npr.org/2020/04/29/848111619/getting-back-to-business Jump to about 3:00, if you want to start where he does. I pretty much listen to all of The Indicator podcasts, as well as the Short Wave and Planet Money. -
No, they have gas pumps in their garage.

Green new deal equals magical thinking

But they often have 1/3 of the footprint of the US. You are the one who touted lifespan as a function of carbon footprint. Even the examples you gave don't all have longer lifespan than the US. 90% of the countries with longer lifespan have significantly lower carbon footprint than the US, averaging ~a factor of 2. -

How about countries with 1/3 to 2/3 of the US emissions, with longer life expectancy. France, Spain, Norway, Netherlands, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Japan, UK, etc. ? In fact, of the 37 countries with higher lifespan than the US, 90% of them have per capita emissions in the range of 1/3 to 2/3 of the US emissions. -
They had 20,000 people just tracing contacts, with enforced isolation for those infected. They built a new hospital in 10 days. I don't see that much problem getting people to "stand in line." I do wonder about whatever is required to get a result for a test. e.g. is some machine required or is it a stand alone like a home pregnancy test.

I expect that any call, texts, emails, and contacts related to such sales are long deleted. It is not exactly news that he made the trades.

Two very active seniors (Jacob, age 92, and Mary, age 89), living in The Villages, are all excited about their decision to get married. They go for a stroll to discuss the wedding, and on the way, they pass a drugstore. Jacob suggests they go in. Jacob addresses the man behind the counter, “Are you the owner?” The pharmacist answers, “Yes.” Jacob says, “We’re about to get married. Do you sell heart medication?” The Pharmacist: “Of course we do.” Jacob: “How about medicine for circulation?” Pharmacist: “All kinds.” Jacob: “Medicine for rheumatism?” Pharmacist: “Definitely.” Jacob: “How about suppositories and medicine for impotence?” Pharmacist: “You bet!” Jacob: “Medicine for memory problems, arthritis, and Alzheimer’s?” Pharmacist: “Yes, a large variety. The works.” Jacob: “What about vitamins, sleeping pills, Geritol, antidotes for Parkinson’s disease?” Pharmacist: “Absolutely.” Jacob: “Everything for heartburn and indigestion?” Pharmacist: “We sure do.” Jacob: “You sell wheelchairs and walkers and canes?” Pharmacist: “All speeds and sizes.” Jacob: “Adult diapers?” Pharmacist: “Sure, how can I help you? Jacob: “We’d like to use this store as our Bridal Registry.”

I had a reaction to a flu shot 10-12 years ago, so I haven't had one since. Facial edema, to the point I could see my cheeks puffing out under my eyes when looking straight ahead. Now that I am officially an old geezer, I may resume next fall. I like to travel, so I'll get the SARS-COV2 vaccine when available, if it looks to be effective. Regarding the shingles vaccine -- not really that effective, and doesn't stay active all that many years. I've had shingles before (bring on the opiates), but not getting the vaccination.

Well, they also claimed that it originated in Northern Italy, where there are a lot of migrants from Wuhan working in the garment industry.

No surprise that more opening means more cases. Yep, US only has 49x the per capita deaths as S. Korea now. -

I'm sending you some. It was 95 here in the Bay Area yesterday. -
Lots of cheek kissing in France. BJ in the UK started off in the do nothing herd immunity direction, which allowed cases to spread faster. Since unchecked spread is something like 10x every 8-9 days, they have more cases than they would have.

A serious preponderance about Trump and Covid-19
headoverheels replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
That is overstating his illness by quite a bit. Had it been you or me, we would not have been sent to the ICU. We would have been given oxygen, as was he, in a regular hospital room. -

Tesla outsold Mazda, Audi, Acura, Buick, Cadillac, Land Rover, Infiniti, Volvo, a bunch of smaller brands (Jag, Porsche, Mitsubishi, etc). They had 90% of Lexus' sales, 85% of Mazda's sales. They sold more sedans (all they sold) than Mercedes, BMW. -

Tesla US sales 1st quarter 2020 were up 75% from 2019. Next closest gainers were Lincoln and Ram, each up less than 3%. Kia (up 1%) was the only other maker selling more cars in 2020 than in 2019 1st quarter. -
I guess that there are several threads into which this fits, but I'll just put it here. https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/woman-arraigned-killing-security-guard-virus-mask-70516361

COVID-19 Donations, trump Zero, Trump International Zero
headoverheels replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
I've seen reports of that (increase over usual death rate much higher than reported virus deaths) for the UK as well. Back on topic, I passed my $1200 stimulus onward to a local charity doing Covid assistance (food, small business). I will also point out that donation of appreciated assets to charity is a way to give them more, without it costing you more. Last year, I donated some stock shares that were worth ~6x what I paid for them. Had I sold the shares instead, and made my usual donation, I would have had to pay taxes on 5/6th of the amount, reducing the amount available for donation. I don't much pay income tax these days, but for those of you who do it is a valuable consideration. -

Here in densely populated Silicon Valley, home of what was likely the first US Covid case, we only have 40% of the deaths per capita as Stark County, Ohio. The US now has more cases per capita than Italy, France, Germany, UK, Netherlands. -
This graph doesn't include today, which is not over and has 2201 new deaths.
