  1. couldn't have said it better myself. ...only with, you know... a woman...
  2. I turned off "Meet the Parents" about 20 minutes into it and went back to the video store to exchange it. I guess you're supposed to feel sorry for him and laugh while he bumbles around like a dumbass...
  3. when I type in my phone number I get one hit on google http://www2.uiuc.edu/ro/F.html that doesn't bug me too much
  4. I generally don't speed enough to draw attention to myself (around 75 in illinois where it's 65) I figure if I'm going 10 over, and I'm not driving like an idiot, I'm not at too much risk. it saves me about 15 minutes or so each leg of the drive to the dropzone that I make every weekend. Seems to work, I've never been pulled over.
  5. there's definitely a few people at my dropzone that'd be easier to catch sitflying... I think one of these days we're going to have to don neptunes and have ourselves a slow contest...
  6. was just at the club today shooting skeet and sporting clays... /edited to add: the weapon of choice
  7. have you tried listening to joe jennings' commentary track, I think he mentions something about it... ah the wonder of dvds...
  8. well, that will always my first concern whenever I change anything, is "how is this new thing going to get cought on something and kill me." looking at that particular spot on the harness, it's not free to interfere with the three rings or my handles. I'm not sure how any part of my canopy could get down there to snag on that, I plan to run it by my rigger to make sure. I certainly wouldn't suggest trying it for CRW if that's what you're referring to.
  9. Well this isn't a law, it's just a request from a client. If I were in the IT business I would probably start going out of my way to avoid doing business with a customer that dangerously stupid. soon enough "SCSI" will be offensive to the homeless, "terminals" will put out those on their deathbed, and "logic devices" will be offensive to politicians. let's not even touch male/female cable connectors with a ten foot pole...
  10. it's important to make sure you know where the lines are when you go to set the canopy down, flaking the fabric helps keep the lines running stright and even which will lead to more predictable openings. you don't have to hand place every piece of fabric just so, but you should see to it that all your lines are in order.
  11. I was thinking convenience for sit-flying or tracking. I can see my reserve handle past it pretty easily as it doesn't stick out very far. I'm less concerned about it breaking or falling off as I am about it shaking like crazy (being hard to read) or getting caught in a burble. (being pointless to read) It only cost a couple bucks for the plastic and it took about 20 minutes to cut and form it so I'm not too concerned if it doesn't work out. next time I go out I'll wear a wrist mount as a reference and see how easily and accurately it reads in a box man, tracking, sitting, and under canopy.
  12. the ol' ctrl+A method of reading it works... but if visitors have to go out of their way to read a page, you need someone to hit you up-side the head with an animated gif of a baseball bat.
  13. it's been awhile since anyone has discussed the plastic mudflap mount idea that Pat Works came up with a while back. I actually had an extra ft-50 laying around so I figured I'd give it a go. Attatched is a photo of my rendition of it (ignore A&M rigging logo, I bought the rig used) it stays on there very well, I can't seem to get it off the rig while I'm wearing it if I wanted to comments? experiences? suggestions? accusations of insanity? /edit: fixed one of the links
  14. I think he meant "cover his shift" don't feel too bad, I've had to sit it out do to winds a couple times. Once as a student it was ridiculous and no one was going up, so I learned how to pack. Another time I had just gotten my grubby little hands on my first rig and I was manifested, geared up, and heading to the loading area waiting for the plane to taxi over, and felt the wind start to gust up. I didn't feel comfortable jumping a new canopy in winds I didn't have a lot of experience in anyway so I took myself off the load. you have a long skydiving career ahead of you, the less you jump in high winds as a student, the longer it will be
  15. Same basic thing here at illinois@uc We just try and spread the word about skydiving and have people with the desire to come to us. I have a list of around 560 e-mail addresses of people who signed up to get information, probably 10% have done at least one jump of some sort, and there's a bunch that are working their way up the student progression. At the end of the day though I'm not going to tackle people and put a rig on them...
  16. 0-1500ft: a little nervous as I watch the ground go away and I think about how low I am with no canopy over my head. 1500-11000ft: rehearsing jump in my head or counting the stitches on the rig of the person in front of me. This is the nice relaxing part of the plane ride. 11000-13500ft: checking gear again, touching handles, and thinking about how not to funnel the exit/leave late/go high 13500-0ft:
  17. I think that's pretty clearly industrial haze.
  18. yep, definite cypres fire. "I lowered my cholesterol! And I owe BEER!"
  19. see, what you're doing here is making it hard for me to not want to move back down to fort lauderdale when I graduate... between SoBe opening up, and all this talk about tent sharing... I really don't know what to think anymore it's okay... I'll admit it it... I'm
  20. was someone just let loose with a cement truck and a twisted sense of humor?
  21. I kinda like the idea of BASE, you don't have all those extra handles to worry about like on a skydiving rig... I kid... I kid... I have a feeling I'm eventually going to want to do it, but I have freeflying and camera flying on my "to do" list first. It's like driving, everyone going slower than you is an idiot, and everyone going faster than you is a maniac. maybe some skydivers are going 10 over and kinda like it there.
  22. I can never seem to get them just right with a gas fire... maybe I just need more practice...
  23. ugg, driving in Broward county is like navigating a minefield of stupid. I also noticed an abundance of people running their A/C full blast in the middle of July, stuck in stop and go traffic for an hour and a half, and then wondering why their car died.
  24. my only complaint about gas fireplaces is you can't really roast marshmallows with them. A fire is nice, but a fire and puffed up golden-brown marshmallows is better.
