  2. see... we had the luxury model with three buttons. one button you'd press to turn in on, press it again to turn the sound down a notch, press it again to turn it down one more notch, and a fourth would turn it off the kicker is that we could surf up or down with the other two buttons. still only had 7-8 channels but it didn't matter, there was something satisfying about pressing a button and making the knob on the TV turn by itself *clang* *clang* *clang* /edit: sorry... uh I mean... so how about that chocolate? eh?
  3. Actually, since you ask... (cracks open beer around the bonfire) I got that name back in high school. There was a character in a water skiing arcade game named 'shampoo' and I was joking with my girlfriend that, "if you're going to have a name like 'shampoo', you better as hell spell it so that it sounds foreign and you can claim that the deeper meaning is lost in translation." now it's just ridiculous 'cause I don't have any hair...
  4. while you're waiting... may I recommend the next best thing to skydiving?

  8. As guys we're only kidding if we get that "what" look in response. On an internet forum, we don't have facial expressions to judge so we're screwed (or are we???)

  15. "Good morning class" "Good morning." "I'd like to welcome you all to the ground portion of your training on making your first static line jump. First things first, let's talk about line-twists..."
  16. haha, oh right... damping... sorry, I'm too mired up in matricies and block diagrams to actually think about what the hell is going on. It's about that time in the semester where I need a week off.

    male vs. female

tsk tsk, everyone knows "comedy third option" does nothing but screw up results... ...I'm sorry, what the hell were we just talking about?
  18. I did 2 normal static line jumps, then three PRCP jumps, then went on to freefall. I had to go back and do another static line later on because I lost currency last winter. I look thrilled in this photo...
  19. pulling lower to avoid the cold would be like driving faster to avoid icy roads, either way you're asking to end up in a snow bank.
  20. based on some fun physics and control theory... really the only two things that matter are center of pressure and center of gravity. if they are vertically aligned the system is at an equalibrium, technically it won't go anywhere unless you add some outside force. if the center of pressure is below the center of gravity (ie de-arching while belly flying to slow down) this is an unstable equalibrium, meaning a little poke one way or the other and the system will try and flip over so that... if the center of pressure is above the center of gravity it is a stable equalibrium, and if poked one way or the other, the system will oscillate or rock back and forth, eventually settling back to this same position. what decides how quickly the system will return to it's stable equalibrium is how far apart the center of pressure and center of gravity are. In the case of a shuttlecock or a dart, the center of pressure is way behind the center of gravity, so if you tap the tail it will very quickly return to it's stable orientation. if you think of a potato-chipping student, the center of pressure might be millimeters above the center of gravity, so if you tap them and let them be, the rocking motion may not recover before the dive is over
  21. assuming the logistics work out, all the same federal regulations apply, read up on your FARs http://www.access.gpo.gov/nara/cfr/cfrhtml_00/Title_14/14cfr105_00.html /edited to add: you are going to get swarmed with people telling you that you don't need to be doing this kind of thing at your stage in the game, and I'm going to agree with them.
