I have to second what JP said. It was great hanging with Tom, and even greater to suck in all the knowledge that he had to share. I am still amazed at somebody taking 3 days out of their life to teach people - Many thanks over and over again. P.S. Yes, Monday was nice - made 2 jumps in the morning :)

thanks for an awesome BD Jason ! now, how do we get a copy of your DVR recording ? are you able to rip it to DVD/DIVX or are you just going to post a low-res version ? I am sure many people would be willing to pay for a copy. ( or if you want to stick with legalities pay for your time, but get the footage for free ) Also, can you post a link or any info on the LEGAL everyday jumping of the bridge ? The poster was there, and so is the link on your site, but all they say is "contact for more info" ... tnx !

Yeah, I have to say the weather sucked. More than anything the 2 of us were packing on the gravel next to the tarps ( since the tarps had puddles, and gravel didn't ) at around 1.45 when the shit reaaaally hit the fan and the downpour started - we kept on packing and once we got done, the sun came out.. but - at least we were the few who had packed rigs ( with about 2 extra pounds of weight in water :).. so got to jump for the 3rd time around 2.40 Did a two way and I ended up with 3 line twists - and still made the landing area.. nice ! so how about that covered packing area for next year, Jason ? And a heated one for the year after that :) ? cya in '05 !

Please do tell us your landing story. Seeing it first row was priceless.

I jump there from time to time. It's about 24mi from my house, straight down 422 ... nice place, good people. no big covered packing area like Aerohio :) I did my first tandem jump there 4 years ago - but did the rest of AFF cert other place - so I cannot comment on training. I did survive the tandem though :)

what he said. I called and they told me that they were booked on the 1st by 3AM.. silly me - i didn't even realize that you can start booking at midnight :(

myself and my friends ( all of us born in some part of Russia ) have been arguing this for a long time. Is letting Checnya go a possible solution ? Let them be like Cuba - embargoed by all who surround it, and be self sufficient ? I for a second thought that that might do it, cuz logically it would seem that that will stop all the terrorist ploys. Now, lets go back a few years - what was going on in Afganistan that has won its sovergnity a decade back ? Most profits came from growing drugs ( coke ??? ), transporting weapons, and al-Queda training. They were left alone, and yes, there wasn't that many attacks as there are now, but just 9/11 was a few magnitudes more than anything anybody was thinking might happen out of letting the radicalists live their life. So I ( and everybody I have discussed this with ) have figured that there really isn't much that can solve this problem in the forceeble future. ( Well, short of complete genocide - and nobody agrees with that ). Educating the poor SOBs and giving them something to look forward to, arresting and getting rid of the corrupt element and people who take religion and make a cult or a following of their PERSONAL beliefs - that is a long term solution. I personally don't think it's possible to eradicate the problem, but it's possible to contain it. As far as comrade Putin goes - I think pretty soon you will see some radical changes towards the chechen or arab looking people in all major city. Even currently these people have no biz in the big cities - the local punks let them know that. When I was in Israel in 2000, anybody who was a palestinian needed to have a permit to show up at the city. There were roadblocks at every entrance, and cars were stopped with ALL arab looking people and questioned. Yes, that's pretty drastic - but look at what has been hapenning there for years. now let me hear the flames :)

I again don't want to sounds like a helmet nazi, but... I have replaced a few visors due to stone chips. And I have quite a few gashes/scrapes/and a BIG gouch on ALL my helmets ( 4 of them currently ) from stones/pebbles and other things that would of hurt like hell if I would of not been protected. One particular time is when a rock flew from under a car and hit me right above the visor between my front vents, I know if not for te helmet I would of been off the bike and possibly dead.. Instead I just said "FUCK" and kept on riding... so all the proponents of highways are reasonably safer - what would you prefer - a rock at your face/forehead/left eye at 25 mph in traffic, or no traffic and a rock at your fact at 65mph. And don't tell me you can swirve, cuz at 65mph your reaction must be just as fast. ha !

that statement is plain ignorant. maybe he didn't have any injuries BECAUSE he was wearing a helmet.. This is as good as saying "my friend died because his reserve entangled with his main", the fucking main killed him. Fuckoff and don't use mains.

funny thing- same thing happened to me last year. I went up the stairs at home, and when I made the turn to go to the bathroom, all of my body but my toe made it. So I smacked it pretty damn hard against the door frame.. Ooops, how clumsy. a few hours later it turned purple and it did hurt, so to ER I went. Yop, it was broken. I had a soft cast put on it, and jumped the very following weekend ( I wore socks and sandals, and either slid on my heels or on my butt ). I am not saying you should jump - that's a call only you ( or possibly a doctor ) should make, I am just saying that I was able to :)

they say "load pipes save lives" AMA and many others say "loud pipes risk rights" ( like a certain Chicago street being off limits to motorcycles till the feds stepped in ). I say - assholes are always assholes. Inconcederate people will do that with anything - wether a motorcycle or a lawnmower at 8am on a tuesday morning like on of my neighboors :) bottom line - talk to them - perhaps the guy who does it thinks people like it, and he might actually listen to you ( long shot, but what the hell - if you try and fail, it's better if you don't try ). I am sure the cops can have a stance on this too since every city has noise ordinances and a noise pollution law.

more info : http://www.dpreview.com/articles/canoneos20d/ look like a HUGE buffer compared to the 10D - 23 shots at 5 fps - and a bit lighter than a 10D - a definite winner...

again, a matter of opinion. You can be a guy who tests multitudes of laptops on daily bases, but otherwise the data collected is too narrow to make a statement saying that brand X is the best. An opinion however is more than fine, since that's not to be argued about :) I have dealt with many different brands of PC/Laptop equipment over the years as well, and I am yet to say that one is overall better or worse than the other - everything has it's own pluses and minuses. Basically if you like what you have - great - but that by no means is basis saying that that is the best brand out there. Again, not meant as an arguement, merely an OPINION.
-
Laptop - most people choose to go with tier 1 manufacturers ( Dell/Compaq/HP/Toshiba ETC ) - these guys do their share of R&D and the products are good. Sure, somebody can claim that one brand is better than the other, or that brand X is crap cuz they had ONE laptop that gave them hell - well, that's simply not enough date to make a judgment call. Bottom line - if it has a waranty ( and everything that is new or refurb does ), you should be fine. Most people nowadays like Dell cuz of their marketing and pricing. good website that shows lotsa Dell deals is www.bensbargains.net Cellphone - again opinions out there are mostly based on very little data, but more on ONE bad personal experience. Verizon has the largest coverage area - great, but if you stay within the city it doesn't make a difference. Different city - different deadspots for signal - talk to your friends and figure out which carriers they have used and which ones they like the most. Phone wise - again, a brand name is a brand name. If you are looking for just a phone - I would imagine most should work fine. No idea on blackberry/palm pilot ..

I started SCUBA same year I started skydiving. Needless to say it was busy year :) 4 years later I still do both - and neither is enough :) Just YMCA OW card... I was going to go for AOW and/or Nitrox, but as I said, don't dive enough to justify it.

I have used nationwide, allstate, and currently use farmers. When I was 18 and had a 650cc allstate was cheap ( at that time :) . Then I got a 1000cc BMW K1 (they classified it as a sport bike most of the time ) and paid like $1000/year for it. Then turned 21 and got another bike a K1200LT beemer. still with allstate and was paying 1200/year for both bikes. Plus with Ohio weather I laid the policy up for good half a year. Now at 24 I pay $272 and $242 for each bike respecitvely. That is rolling in the Experienced rider course, AMA membership, BMWMOA membership, my homeowners/business/life insurance with the same carrier. No accidents, so cannot judge the companies reliability One thing that always made sense - pretty much everybody gives AMA discount, I know progressive is pretty big on that as well as the Experienced rider course.
