We have a bunch of Manta's, Sabre 230, and Sabre 190. The Sabre 230 is an asshole though. It always opens, but sometimes a little on the quick side. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Exactly. If some numbskull is going to get killed by misenterpreting an advertisement, there is a very good chance that once corrected, they will find another dumbass way to get killed. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

I would guess that people who do jumps for gear manufacturers spend the majority of their time in the air under a canopy screwing around with it and trying to get it to not work so that people who care not to learn about their gear can jump more safely. If that's not caring about the second half of the skydive, what is? I also think that most manufacturers would rather not affix the ugly warning label to their otherwise aesthetically (sp?) pleasing product. They have to in order to cover their asses against frivelous lawsuits from the people who care not to learn about the second half of the skydive. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

2 point 8-way for C license?
packerboy replied to Slowfaller's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You have to pay for each licence in progression to get the next though. Or at least pay for them all at once. I think . I hope, because that is what I did. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
You know... I think it's funny this thread came up. Just the other day I saw a car commercial (don't remember which car - good advertising) in which the driver was doing some pretty radical shit. After the commercial was over I thought... "Hmm, that's wierd. They didn't put the typical professional stunt driver on closed course don't attempt at home disclaimer on the bottom. Well, anyone stupid enough to do that shit is going to crash doing something else stupid if it isn't that." So yeah, then I saw this thread and thought.. "If someone is stupid enough to take EP's from an ad, then it doesn't matter if that is what kills them, because something else will anyway. I wonder how Scott Lutz would've comprehended the ad? It would take a real Lutz to not get it... then again I bet Airtec sells replacement CYPRES cutters faster than 7-11 sells smokes. So maybe it's a good thing that people who would interpret the ad that way most likely SHOULD be jumping with a CYPRES AND a skyhook, because either one probably will save their ass someday. Moral of the story: If you think a Skyhook is a replacement for a reserve ripcord just because you read it in an ad, and your dumbass is going to jump out of an airplane no matter what people say, please go out and buy a skyhook and a CYPRES because you are going to need them sooner or later. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

"But if it [sky diving] was safe, nobody would do it"
packerboy replied to tdog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I bet you get dopamine lining up a 25 ft eagle putt on the 18th green on Sunday afternoon at the U.S. Open when your 1 shot from the top of the leaderboard and Tiger Woods is standing in the press tent watching you with a worried look on his face. But how many times will that happen in golf? 5,10,20 times a weekend? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -

The only one I have packed was a very nice looking container, and all of it's components seemed to be ship shape ie. riser covers, bridle protection, pin protection (pin protection seemed to be a bit better than most mainstream conatiners w/ the odd shape of the main pin flap). That being said, I am not a rigger, nor have I jumped one of these rigs so I can't comment on worksmanship or comfort. It looks good and packs good though. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

I just spent some time on the phone with Lara from Alti-2. She's really nice btw. We are analyzing the paralog graphs and I shall get back. It may have something to do w/ a slow climb on the Cessna or maybe even dropping a bit while letting a H&P out at 3,500 ft before resuming climb.. not sure, but definately have the right folks checking it out for me. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

I just recieved them from Alti-2 last week, I would hope that I have the most updated firmware, but I'll check. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

I just got two Neptunes (one for my girlfriend), and both of them on the first few jumps showed some pretty radical speed readings ie. 170mph at 3K. And one jumps shows deployment right after exit. Is this normal? Both altitudes and average speed seems normal, but sI am concerned about the erroneous readings... should I dismiss this and not worry about it? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Canopy Malfunction: Lineover (*landed*, with photos)

And how many reserve malfunctions reported? Surely the event of a reserve malfunctioning is more likely to be reported than just a plain old reserve ride. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -

Are you saying they were doing tandem BASE jumps? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
Looks like it's a moot point... sounds official on the next one. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

I'm in the same boat, only I don't want an AFF rating. I want to get a tandem rating soon, but I have done nothing but freeflying since my own AFF program. My worry is that you have to be a coach to get your tandem rating and I am worried that I will fail that. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

those with NO, NONE, ZERO ratings....
packerboy replied to rocketdog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In Canada you do need a coach rating to be a TI. We are getting our ratings from the same place. I would bet by Danger's avatar he is probably Canadian, or a very unpatriotic American . I will get my coach rating to facilitate my tandem rating, but I would still not charge for coach jumps. I never paid for a coach's slot and I don't believe in it. I believe that the knowledge should be paid forward to new jumpers so that they become new instructors so that they take students which are the bread and butter of our sport who without, we would not be able to do what we are doing for such a great price. In our world, if noone jumps with the new kids then our experienced jumpers would eventually have noone good at anything to jump with. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -

packerboy replied to rocketdog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have no ratings, only because I don't have enough jumps. I could go out and get a coach rating, but that doesn't pay anything where I'm from. I pack to pay for jumps untill I get a tandem rating and then I will do tandems and pack. I want to do tandems because I think it would be fun to experience someones first skydive right along with them, not for the financial benefits. I would do tandems for free if I could. But I can't afford to. The only reason I work for a dropzone period is because skydiving is retarded expensive. I make $15/hr at a factory and there is no chance I would do more than 1 or 2 jumps a weekend unless I work for a dropzone. That's just not enough for me. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -

lol... who the heck would've guessed that? No, but I sure am having fun screwing around w/ my Neptune. I prefer to wait untill everyone is geared up and someone is yelling at me to hurry the f' up and then I freak out, grab my shit w/o looking, fire it on.. run halfway to the plane, run back and get my helmet, get on the plane, panic for 5,000ft of climb untill I realize I am sitting on my goggles... look around to see if there is anyone on the plane w/ more than 5,000 jumps or so that doesn't mind lending me their altimeter... realizing during pin check I forgot to turn on my Vigil again.. now I'm paranoid I'm forgetting something so I double check my pins again, feel for my bridle routing and hackey, make sure my chest strap is done up right do a practice EP... frantically try to strap on my helmet as other people are climbing out the door, leap out of the plane forgetting to put my goggles down.. deal with that on the hill.. and then have the best f'ing skydive of my life. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
