  1. Don't forget the rule about giving the first beer to the packer who packed all those rentals and student rigs for you and packed up the canopy you bought while you were test jumping it and introduced you to packing your own gear. That is a rule....... right??? Anyone? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

  4. I think the next "push the envelope" thing could be CRW with HP canopies... you'd have to wear armour though. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  5. he he he... Simon's landings are never scary... -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  6. I was a packer before being a jumper. Once I had enough money on my account (or resonably close), I was instructed to stop packing for 2 weekends whilst I complete the freefall program. Too much to concentrate on, especially since I was a new/nervous packer. If it is the case that you were taught to pack before jumping, this I would suggest. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  7. 2 jumps and he had to get a drive back for both... that's got to be beer! OTTER COMING TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

  9. Thats what I am saying... I haven't really jumped anywhere that hasn't had major outs... but even on Cessna loads, we don't leave the jump early. Plan the dive, dive the plan. Open safely... then land safely. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  10. "You should be aware of where your landing target is in freefall. I have left countless jumps early because the spot was off, people took to long in the door and spread the spot to thin, or the wind was stronger when we exited then when we took off. The point is develop an awareness of where your target is in freefall by doing solos. Don't be afraid to deploy a little early if you see you are entirely too long to get back." This could have been explained a little better I think. People should not simply be pulling high because they think they won't make it to the target without first being aware of the safety concerns involved with pulling higher than announced. Unless of course you are the last out of the airplane and you can be absolutely sure you have clean airspace to deploy. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  11. Sure, but playing with the careers of the pilots, DZO, instructors, manifestor etc. etc. is not a nice thing to do no matter how slim the chance. If you have a problem with the way a situation is handled, than it is in everyones best interest to point your concerns out to the people in question so that at least they have the chance to support their own case. Perhaps and most likely a sour situation was created simply by misinterpretation of intentions by way of lack of communication on both parties. If anything I would say that if you are going to go the route of pencil packing than the onus is on the rigger who's signature appears on the card. But it is completely unfair to the pilot for anyone who works on the DZ to willingly allow someone on the load with an out of date card without the pilots knowledge and consent. I would be severely fucking pissed if I was a pilot and lost my license because someone in manifest decided it was ok and then something happened to initiate an official investigation. We have to look out for each other and I include the pilots in my DZ family. The FAA won't waste it's time with someone who admits to pencil packing, unless that information comes out during the investigation of a serious incident. Then the fit would hit the shan. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  12. This shit sucks... Even though I have the urge to go smaller.. and have demoed a couple things a little smaller, I have a good time at 1:1. Laugh all you want, but with some good coaching I am getting some pretty hot swoops off a Sabre 150 at 1:1. I want to go smaller and probably will before having 1000 jumps, but you need to dial in your shit first. It's no joke. I heard the sound of a guy femur/pelvis in once and it made me sick to my stomach. Maybe someone should just show him what is actually possible with a lighter wingloading. If he wants to swoop in high winds with his experience he is retarded and should be bowling with a orange ball. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  13. I had that problem twice when I installed SP2, I had to remove it and try it again.. 3rd time was a charm, like it was mentioned below, I would try checking all of the drivers, and try booting after removing all USB devices devices and rebooting multiple times each time adding one device back into the system. SP2 doesn't like some drivers and devices that may seem to work fine without it. Sometimes the problem doesn't pop up right away after install either. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

  15. Nobody is going to be good at anything they don't do very often. Someone who bought a birdman suit at 200 jumps and has done nothing else since is not going to be very good either. But they are still skydivers. Regardless of whether you have a drogue holding you stable and a student strapped to your chest you are still skydiving for a living. Actually I heard a rumor once that it can be quite a workout trying to keep a not so co-operative student stable even with a drogue. But I wouldn't say it's as hard on the the body as packing a tandem. Would you AggieDave? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  16. I agree, "skydiving" is jumping out of an airplane while not attached to an opening device like a static line or IAD instructor, which I would classify as "parachuting". Whatever floats your boat. I go low on some formations, mainly because I have a total of about 25-30 belly jumps and 300 ff jumps. Does that make me not a skydiver, because I suck at RW? It's not what I like to do. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  17. I agree in theory, but in practicality... it isn't possible to see a plane flying 10,000 below and behind you every time even with a long scan. It all depends on the backround. Heck it sometimes takes a long time to see a plane 10,000ft above you from the ground with a solid backround and expecting to see one. Just last week I pointed out traffic to another jumper while on downwind leg to jump run and he took about 20 sec to find it. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  18. If I'm not mistaken I think all of the instructors are taking it or have expressed interest in taking it.. I'm not sure who all ended up signing up in time though. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  19. Ask Gilles about getting you a PD reserve to demo. It is my understanding that he was thinking about getting some different sizes for the Otter weekends, but I'm not sure if I remember that correctly. Last year he brought a couple Katana's for demoing and at least 3 people I know of have bought Katana's since then. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  20. I did a couple of Tandems at SWOOP and have friends that jump there.. good times.. but I don't think they are insanely busy w/ fun jumpers. check out skydivegan.com It's a bit of a drive, but the majority of our instructors and regulars drive 2 or more hours from T.O. or Montreal every weekend to be there. Not to mention our pilots. There has got to be some reason they do it. And that reason is that our dz is just a wicked place to hang out and do alot of jumps. Ask the fun jumpers around there.. they know us. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  21. I'm a 3 and I would say 1... it's harder to pack, but what do I know? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  22. My bad, you're right... I wouldn't know.. let's take a poll shall we? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  23. The good news is that your instructors will be taking this course and hopefully will be able to communicate their learned skills to you. Albeit maby not 100% as effective as taking the course itself, but just pay attention to how people are approaching their canopy flight before and after the course and ask your instructors lots of questions. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  24. Do that soon, slots are filling up really fast. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
  25. Not harder on their body than packing the same tandem rigs all day w/o the break of a ride to altitude. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
