Drug seizure.....should i buy the rig
packerboy replied to SSkydiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Talk to the dude that got busted, see what he thinks about the whole deal... he may even offer you more money than you have to pay for it to go get it for him.. after all he may have some cash buried in the backyard and really want his rig. Maybe even lend it to you while he is inside. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
Friend banged up in Florida?
packerboy replied to packerboy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That's what I am trying to find out. I heard some third hand stuff, but I would like to get in contact with him if possible. I was hoping he would be back this summer... -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
Tandem. As a first time jumper you are sort of out of your own natural element in the sky and reactions are unpredictable. Although static line and AFF have proven themselves to be safe methods of learning, being in the air with someone who has thousands of jumps and is in control is safer and lends you the time to soak it in and have more fun. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Friend banged up in Florida?
packerboy replied to packerboy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I just got second hand info that a buddy of mine hurt himself real bad at a Florida dropzone. Since I know nothing I decided to keep it away from the incidents forum. He is a Canadian jumper working on a contract down south. I just want to know how he is. His name is Eric Chappel (sp?). Anyone with info please PM me. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -

Santa can't skydive Why, in this case, could Santa not just exit higher than 3G? If the concern for large venue demos for the FAA is low flying planes, why not take the plane higher? I understand that it adds yet another element of risk, but high altitude smoke jumps are part of demos already are they not? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Travel/Accident Insurance that covers skydiving
packerboy replied to mailin's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was talking to an insurance agent today and they asked the question "Do you skydive for money?". They apparantly cover skydiving, but not if you are working. It was The Co-operators in Canada. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -

What can we do about Skyride?
packerboy replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm interested to hear about the Skydive Arizona and the website Skydiving Arizona thing. If it is not relevant to this thread than would someone please PM me with some details please. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
Keep in mind that some newer jumpers may define the word "Swoop" a little different than experienced bad assed canopy pilots on small canopies. Myself, I am not interested in learning how to "swoop" as you know it, but I am interested in changing up my landings a bit... going a little bit faster and maybe dragging my feet along the ground for a few feet before stepping down. This is what I have heard lot's of newbies describe as a "Swoop". "Man, did you see my swoop on that one???" When I ask for advice on going faster.. carving turns.. double fronts.. etc. I am not asking about doing snappy hook turns at low altitudes and cruising along the pond at 60mph. Yeah, sure maybe I have alot of work to do before I downsize. (I like Billvon's list). But that's not to say I shouldn't be asking questions about how to go a little faster on my current canopy. It's fun, and If I don't get advice on how to do it from expert canopy pilots (which I am), than I will try to figure it out myself anyway... getting advice is the safest way to do it. IMO if you are just going to tell people they have no business asking questions, than you have no business giving advice. Edited to add: Shit I didn't even look at your jump numbers... If you are even looking in this forum than you obviously have at least a little interest in moving your canopy a little faster, why shit on the person who initiates the thread that you want to read???? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Black Daggers: Demonstrators NOT Swoopers
packerboy replied to katiebear21's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I laugh harder every time I see it... I think I would be pissing myself if it was one of my buddies! Glad you're OK dude! Maybe the history of a DZ doing legal battle for a web address that decietfully leads people to believe they are doing business with someone who they are not does belong in this thread.... or at least a link. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
Black Daggers: Demonstrators NOT Swoopers
packerboy replied to katiebear21's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Because I know that it wasn't a helicopter ride.... I have to say that my sides hurt from laughing. Initially I was laughing at the landing, but then I was laughing at his buddy who can't even contain himself for a second and stop laughing. WOW was this guy ever cooking in!!! I didn't even see a high performance turn of sorts.... I'd be interested to know the canopy size & wingloading. I believe those are stock colours for a Sabre2??? Am I wrong? -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
So linking to the page that has the download link is ok... allrighty. Will do next time. I think I have seen almost every movie on that site, and that is definately one of my faves!!! Wild shit! I think if you know someone who doesn't appreciate how much altitude you can lose with a bunch of turns on a small canopy. You should direct them to that! -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Not really the same as the real deal, but if you want to get an idea of groundrush, look for lowpull.mov on www.skydivingmovies.com. Not sure about doing direct clicky... -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

Well... if you think your rig looks cool, post a pic. Maybe we'll start a poll thread later to vote. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
Good luck with the Kurupee man... I think they are hit and miss. I've heard from people who have liked them. I personally had one sent w/ dimensions that wouldn't fit any human I know... complained, emailed, phoned, got a free one to replace it. That was nice of them. Unfortunately the second one was just as brutal. I could start my own thread store with all the loose threads. The zipper is of the cheapest quality, and the dimensions were still not even close. They are cheap though.. I'll give them that! -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson

What can we do about Skyride?
packerboy replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Is there a list of dropzones kicking around that accept their certificates?? Why doesn't everyone that is that pissed off about these guys "and it sounds like alot of people" call every dropzone on the list and explain your distaste for Skyrides shady business practices. Then e-mail them. Then fax them. Then send them a letter. Then do it again next week. Everyone. Apparantly there are alot of you out there. Maybe, just maybe, one or two of the dropzones will get sick enough of dealing with it, that they would rather stop accepting the certificates than deal with all the harrasment. Punch them where it hurts... in the moneybags! Hey you never know what could happen.... but it'd have to be alot of people calling to make it work. Just a thought. -------------------------------------------------- In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson -
Mart!!!!! Comment ca va? Wassup? I should be out your way soon to be getting some not so big air on my Burton... see if you can score me a copy, maybe I'll stop by. You guys do winter jumps at Nouvelle? That's a sweet road trip for sure! You should come out to Sutton with us dude, Steeve Mavre, our francemophony pilot is the chief snowboard instructor out there and he has a cabin just off the hill. I think we've already made it quite obvious that skydivers don't have to be skydiving to do stupid crap on video. We're going to try to get out early so if I break something it'll heal before March. Give me a shout dude.. say hi to the little guy for me.
