Proposition - new tech spec for reserves
phoenixlpr replied to MartinOlsson's topic in Gear and Rigging
Your canopy flies in the air. How can you tell without any reference like the ground which way is downwind? -
You can do it too. Of course, it is nice to fly all time with downwind But, in Germany for example, we have restriction for the exit point (2 miles from landing area) and I can't fly all track with downwind, sooner one arc with different alignment to downwind. We have only fuel/flight time of the plane constraints here. We are not welcomed to stay in the plane minutes after the last jumper exited.
-
Is it an unfair advantage if you can fly just downwind from exit?
-
Why do you think they would share their secrets? One secret is a special jump-run where you fly downwind only from exist to deployment. Hot weather with thermals over your path also can improve your glide. Don't take it seriously. There is a reason to have a real competition organized.

There is no use having GPX as internal format. Embedded system is small in footprint and low on computing power and storage. Its better just record "raw" GPS data/track and process it on PC and convert it to whatever format.

Altimeter : Feet vs. Meter at European Dropzones .
phoenixlpr replied to maLUCo's topic in Safety and Training
FYI gliders are using metric instuments too. I'm not really sure but Russian made planes might have metric instruments too. -
Factory does not get lines shrinking, but jumping does. You must have been kidding. It has nothing to do with you. You should be able to check if breaks in correct length.
-
I have one. I don't want anything else.
-
Than what do you consider disturbing in a 120+ km/h wind?
-
You need something to blame. Negative. Force is proportional of size/area. Please explain how the PC can pull the slider down!
-
There are even more injuries on a 0 wind day. I wonder why....
-
Its usually ZP 26-28". Most likely it requires some work to get it connected.
-
Wow! Next time you just quote the whole internet here.
-
Very well said. Its a bad question. Have right tool for the purpose. Get a good old analog altimeter as you graduate! That is your main instrument next to your eyes. If you get involved with some discipline get the right tool for that. My Sapphire never let me down, ever.

Why? The strong turbulance of the suit does not provide a clear launch of your PC. Assuming the same bridle length and P/C construction/size how is there any difference in launch? If its a throw out PC you throw it into the clean airflow next to your body. Anyway stop fooling around! You have 300+ WS jumps with pull-out and you should know quite well why is not recommended!

Why not mold into seals again?

Thinking about packing my own reserve.
phoenixlpr replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Gear and Rigging
Just ask your rigger if you can watch him packing reserves. You might have a second thought of re-closing the worm-can. -
Its really easy to recycle old seals into new seals. Its not a waste if you don't throw away....
-
I was really sure what to do as a student when I heard my Pro-track screaming on a high speed mal.....
-
I got my new suit in 17(!!!) days from payment to delivery. Its really hard to beat. Great work PhoenixFly!
-
No, you need a Mattress Operator license. Does it make you so sad that you hame a smaller one?
-
See? Than having an FAI license is quite a reasonable thing.

What can I say? Be happy that you are not force have that aviation medical certificate that Hungarian jumps have to have. I hope that someone can correct me if I'm not up to date.
