Bad news for skydivers, good news for local bars
jumprunner replied to billvon's topic in The Bonfire
Well, we are fucking up the environment to that extent because The AlGore wants to be president. He needs a job, or a life, or something I dont know what until he gets his brain transplanted. -

How about no humidity areas??? There was one guy visiting from Tennessee that attempted to run up the mountain and practically dropped dead half way up, by the time he got to the top I noticed he was drenched in sweat. I think you East coasties are just used to sweating alot. The fearsome thing about it is running out of water and getting heat stroke.

Try following the rules (especially the "no personal attacks" one), and then you won't get banned. By the way, nice kiss-up post. Funny how a picture of Eddie Haskell talking to the Beav's mom popped into my head. It wasnt a kiss up anything, he's solved a lot of issues for me that were causing me to want to quit permanently. So when I say Id take his advice on something, it means Id stake my life on it. Sorry you think it is a kiss up post, if it is, it is because I want to keep taking advice from him being he is pretty much the only one I can trust to give the right information.

112 degrees in the shade in Phoenix as of yesterday, estimating it at 120 in the sun during high afternoon hours, extremely high potential for dehydration, drink lots of water and remember, you can dehydrate without getting thirsty. Went mountain climbing at 3:00 yesterday during the temperature high, wasnt too bad when I got up ~ 1000 ft. There were a few more Squaw Peak diehards going up in the heat. I was only going to go up 3/4 of the way, but then a hot chick passed me up, short pants, saw right under them, and that got me the rest of the way up. Her name was Heather, climbs every so often, hope I see her again she was really cute with that hat on. And nice bod!!! Thought about scratching her number on my arm with a rock (yea, right), maybe next time Ill remember to bring a pen.

In regard to everything I mentioned, the federal government really is influenced to a great deal by the people, it is a government by the people, but not for the people. And who's fault is that? Its the peoples fault. Because the people are the underlying influence on how the government behaves. There will be another civil disturbance in this country, its a time bomb thats ticking away. But it wont be between the states this time, this time it will be much more chaotic. As it almost was in Election 2000. With that being said, I got out of polictical activism a long time ago. I just dont care anymore. I care about sports, and thats where it all ends. Let the communists take over, let the UN take over, throw out the Constitution, go to a socialist system where the working class is enslaved by a welfare population, do what you want, I dont care anymore. Im tired of trying to fight stupidity and I gave up.

Im proud of the Confederate part of this country, and the effort of so many Southerners to protect states' rights, a concept this country was founded on.

Because Im always getting banned by him. But I know as long as I want to be involved with skydiving, this is the guy that has the information that could save your life when youre in dire straits and you have only seconds to make the right decision. There isnt too many people Id want to trust with my life when it comes to skydiving, but Ive made the decision to follow this guys advice to the "T". Glad to have him around, even if he does ban me every week!

Passenger no chute..Pilot has a chute

Since they both died in the crash, how do we know this? Conduct a seance, how else? -
Try cocaine. A centry ago they used to put cocaine in alcohol to enhance the effects: 1870: Vin Mariani (Coca wine) is for sale throughout France, containing 6 mg cocaine per ounce of wine. Exported Vin Mariani contained 7.2 mg per ounce to compete with the higher cocaine content of American competitors.

I just talked to him about it yesterday, its not that he hates it or anything like that, but is afraid that if someone gets hurt they may blame it on the company, since it would be a company function. I thought about it, and he's right, you never know what people are going to try to do, if someone gets hurt they may get their lawyer and create a really bad situation. This is what Im afraid of, if there is a lawsuit, the word "skydiving" in any court would have a pretty strong impact for the person sueing. A scene like this would do little to bring people together and would be pretty embarrasing for everyone. You just dont know what people are going to do, and thats what he's afraid of. He did say it was perfectly okay for me to organize a skydiving trip with people in the company, just as long as their not paying for it which would make it a company function. As for me, I may be putting it on the backburner till this fall so I can focus on surfing, surf season comes and goes, and when it closes out it stays that way till June of next year. Looks like I only have enough time for 4 or 5 trips, not much, may have to do some of this shit on the weekends. Thats rough. Thats what I like about skydiving, doesnt eat up any of your vacation time.

This is a very newbie question.
jumprunner replied to Muenkel's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The more you arch (relaxed), theoretically the more stable you will be. As my instructors drummed into me, "Like a shuttlecock"!! Thanks, Ill keep in in mind. -
This is a very newbie question.
jumprunner replied to Muenkel's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thats what they were telling me about the relaxed arch, but Im just a little paranoid about, if you relax too much, is there a chance you can start flipping unexpectedly? I tend to want to throw my waist out forward when I get nervous about it (ie fear of the unknown?). Is there any creditiablitly in thinking that? -
But that doesnt mean that radios couldnt serve a very good purpose. How many times have you wanted to jam out to some pretty good tunes while parachuting down?
-
I can tell you its mostly just being shitloaded with adrenaline which is probably what happened to him, not a very comfortable feeling. I dont like it but Ill tell you what I did, next time I had a doctors appointment, I told him I have a problem with getting too nervous when I jump out of airplanes. That was a good laugh, but he took it seriously, said that Im releasing all my adrenaline at once and thats whats causing it, then have me some pills to stop adrenaline release. Found out he used to jump when he was in the Army, so he must know the cure!

I was pretty much referring to the first dZ I went to, small place at Marana, AZ, when I asked them questions they would immediately become irritable about it, treating me like I was asking too many questions. Then I have Eloy telling me Marana loses all thier students to them and they are the biggest bunch of a*holes on the face of the earth. And thats where I started out, not knowing any better. You sure gotta watch where you jump.

Paragliders do use those, to keep from running into each other. I find it surprising that skydiving, which is much more dangerous, also seems to be a lot more lax than something like paragliding. This sport like any other sport has the potential to be a lot safer than it is seen to be, I think it just has to be bought out of the category of being a "daredevil act".
-
You were surprised with the rules? I was surprised with the training. 3 mo ago I took the first ground school course before a static line jump, everything was gone over very vaguely. On the cutaway, the second I "touched" the cutaway handle he said "okay you passed". After this course everything was still pretty much a mystery. In just a few hours of really shitty training they had me up on the first jump, not knowing WTF I was doing. I think the training for something like skydiving is pretty inadequate, compare this to the Army, where you train two weeks just for a static line jump. But we're not talking about that, we're talking about skydiving, where you fall at top speed from a high altitude and then decelerate, 'a little' bit more involved than some static line pulling a canopy open right away. Just a few hours and youre up in the air risking your life, that might be a reson for some of the fatalities. Right now, I know most of what I know from reading a book, watching a video, and this forum. I think if youre relying on the content you get from a dz, youre probably making a big mistake. Anybody agree with this?
-
Yea youre probably right about that, it would apply to the entire team under one dept. I did get a group interested of people who have already either skydived or did a static line jump, but they seem to have issues with the money. Like me. I may bury it and just do that, but havent given up yet. They can have liablility forms like the dz, ie "you can get killed or seriously injured, ect."
-
From here it sounds more like a liability issue, ie someone may sue the company if they get hurt skydiving. And you know what the dzs release forms are like. From this perspective, things like paragliding, hang gliding, anything that can cause an injury is pretty much out. They were going to sponsor this stupid paint ball event but cancelled it because "it was too hot outside". Im just thinking if there's a way to get around it so I wrote Eloy to see what they say.
-
If I could just figure out some way to get past that point, we could get them to pay for it. One guy is already worked up over it: Awesome! Have you heard back about whether or not he'd go for it? I can't afford skydiving anytime in the near future (too many other things I want to spend money on ;-) but I'd sure love to go!
-
That was the response I wish I could write, but dont want to start any shit over it. I guess their position is we should all just eat plenty of pizza, stick to golf, build up cholesterol in the arteries and die from a heart attack. As long as it isnt from skydiving...WTF.

msg sent to manager: Ive been talking to a few people a while back, thought it would be really cool to get some people together on a company skydiving trip at Eloy, where Ive been jumping. Skydiving does a lot to bring people together, very good for moral. I talked to Eloy about it and they said they could set all of us up on the same load by bringing in as many instructors as needed. Sound like a good idea? Its not any time soon, I still have to go through another ground school and AFF-1 jump. Maybe this July 4th weekend. reply: Chris, I don’t think the company can support this type of team outing because of the inherent dangers that skydiving presents. Thanks for the thought. Anybody got any ideas?
