Actually, I got two weeks severence pay, two more weeks "2 week notice" pay, paid for 60+ hours of vacation, and the last direct deposit paycheck on the last day, amounting to over 5K. But I can tell you, it doesnt last long when youre out of work, as far as Im concerned Im broke. Thats the attitude you want to have when youre not generating an income. UI I dont think will start till after Jan 1st, but in Arizona, this only tops out at 205/wk, not like other states which are about 5 times more. In other words....dont lose your job in Arizona, if youre going to get laid off, do it in another state (no telling how long you might be out of work looking).

I believe that would be a 1970s expression. Those days are long gone, arent they?

And this is why they lock you out after terminating you. I've been on both ends of this and it sucks either way. I wouldnt screw up thier code for a multitude of reasons, mainly, why would I screw up something I busted my ass on? It doesnt do any good to be vindictive about it, but Ive seen it happen over and over again. The worst case Ive seen was when I worked at a company called Neoplanet, they had this browser they were marketing. Anyway, they started layoffs, the VP kept getting his truck vandalized in the parking lot, and one morning there was a gunshot hole in the main window. They did the same thing, treated you like shit on the way out. If they would just be respectful, ie "you did a good job, sorry to have to see you leave but due to cutbacks...ect", take you out to lunch, this kind of stuff wouldnt be happening. Its always...like they want to go out of their way to either be impersonal or even vindictive about it, and then comes the "pay back" from the laid off employee. To me, respect is a two way street, not a one way street. I hate to say it and I absolutely didnt want it this way, but I left the company with a negative attitude towards the company and its thier fault for letting that happen. On the other side of the coin, I had companies in the past that did show that kind of respect and I stayed in touch with them for some time after that, and always left the company on positive terms, everything positive. Thats the way it should be for any company that claims to care about its image.

Gonna be awefully freezy up there at 13K + 120 mi/hr wind chill factor = no thanks, Ive frozen my butt off enough times this year so my dues are paid. Have fun.

Here's something I can do for you. Drive out here and Ill wash your car, then you can take the next dust storm out. Arizona humor...

Ahh, no, actually that IS a real job, the corporate life is the bullshit job and Ive been through enough of it to finally realize that. See, youre actually doing something productive, and something for yourself instead of being a burnout who has nothing better to do than make someone else rich. I guess Ill always have a hard time letting go of money so Im looking for my next bullshit job, but what you do warrants a lot of respect cause youre in a high end sport and making a living at it. Not too many people can do that.

This is funny, something similar happened to me a few years back. I get laid off from an internet startup company in Phoneix, then this headhunter in Boca Raton calls me about an IBM contract, I get the job over the phone, and end up spending the next 6 months on "vacation", living 50 ft from the beach, in Ft Lauderdale Dude, if I only had a time machine Id do it all over again. That was awesome, but I have a few regrets cause I didnt ever make it out to Key West. Shouldve done that.

Right on Bra...they could just be more civilized about it and like take you out to lunch or something, then let you go get your things, you think they could just give you a little respect on your way out. So thats my attitude too, screw em!, because that shit they pulled is just disrespectful and I wouldnt have an attitude about it otherwise. Maybe Ill get to move to Cali now! We'll see...

Amen. Sorry to hear for the loss jumprunner, but with the attitude you have, you'll be back on the horse in no time. Jobs are just means to ends...there are plenty of 'em out there. Peace bro. -Kramer Yea, you know, its like WTF, I jumped a few times earlier this year and I figure if I can handle what seems like leaping to my death then I can handle this BS without any problem. They couldnt handle it if it were them cause theyre a bunch of burnouts and theyre "scared" of everything. Probably start whining or something if they were the ones getting canned

starting snowboarding? What's the best way to do it?
jumprunner replied to andy2's topic in The Bonfire
Hmm, its okay to talk about snowboarding but not okay to talk about surfing...interesting. Snowboarding's cool, too cold for me but good luck with it. -
Story of my life, man. I get this email on Wednesday calling me in for a one-on-one project status meeting at 3:30 Friday at work, then Im being told to make sure all the code is backed up on CVS (hmmm, suspicious), then on Friday at 3:30 I am to find out that that "status" meeting was my termination meeting. So they tell me my position had been cut and theyre not hiring anyone in my place (Merry Christmas!). Im okay with that, what Im not okay with is their behavior, wouldnt even let me go back to my desk and get my stuff, just boot out the door like Im a piece of fucking trash, after over two years of some pretty amazing successes on thier fucked up spaghetti code. And thats why I dont make my job my life. Been thinking about another jump to get my head all cleared up and shit after that. Leap out of a plane and leave all your problems behind. Or, to put it bluntly, worry about something worth worrying about. And we all know what that is...

After being slammed 5 times today in succession, all I could think about was "why didnt I listen to them when they said go skydiving..."
-
Why, thank you, Bigun! Well, then, that is indeed a problem, isn't it? You really should learn what to do. Ciels- Michele There she goes...playing hard to get again
-
Hey...that wasnt funny...
-
Trust me, I am not going to show up. I have a life to lead, and a business to run. I suspect, then, that the above pissing is the only option you have. Ciels- Michele No sweetie, I got a girlfriend but she couldnt come (thank God), Id have to pick a more expensive place. But dont get me wrong, I still worship your beautiful body.
-
Well now, that is descriptive of the way things are around here isnt it? More in the line of "paddling excersises" and not much if anything to take off on. Much more of this and I might find my way to one of those planes.

Hmm...I met this dude in San Diego last week who just got back from Iraq..says its a priviledge to be able to take showers again. The things we take for granted.

Either my girlfriend, Pamela Anderson, or both at the same time. WTF...theyre both blonde...matching pair! And dont laugh, I asked Pamela Anderson out on a date over the internet. Didnt get one but at least I had the balls...
-
And I feel so much closer to Michele, being so close to Burbank. Totally sensual experience man. Water's in the upper 50s today so I guess Ill be heading out to Topanga Point so I can "cool off". Or maybe Michele will show up so I wont have to piss in my wetsuit to warm up. Not that I really do piss in my wetsuit...yeach!

I like to beat them with a large stick. Just kidding......I do have a funny story though. When you see a panhandler with a sign on the side of the road. Drive by just as fast as you can. 60-70 MPH is good. Faster is ALWAYS better. Then toss some change out the window for him. I like to toss a large handful of pennies...... He he he....we do think alike.

You tell them to fuck off, like I do, I hate those assholes, asking strangers for money like everybody is thier mommy and daddy, its disgusting. And I hate being played for a fool by some stupid bum. Not long ago Im in the post office, this guy comes in asking for money and I told him to fuck off and didnt have any. Then I looked at him and said "what do you want it for?", so he says he wants to buy a beer, so I say "Well why didnt you just say so" and gave him two bucks for a beer. This I dont mind. Then another one comes over to my car asking for change, I looked in the car for change I wanted to get rid of, and then he starts begging..."oh please, please...ect", really stupid, so I told him I dont have any money and dont give to beggars anyway. Dont these people have any self integrity at all? No pride in themselves, it takes a real lowlife loser to beg for money, the lowest of the low. I cant understand how anyone could do that. As for me, there were times I was literally going hungry when in college, but I had enough pride to stay that way until I could afford to eat, because I would have rather remained hungry than to take a handout from anyone. Now one guy Id like to mention, I was skateboarding on the boardwalk at night on PB then stopped for awhile, started talking to this guy collecting cans. He didnt ask for any money, but was telling me he makes about 40 bucks a day doing that, and finds stuff you wouldnt believe, he showed me two expensive cellular phones people just threw away, and a practically brand new CD player he picked out of the dumpster. So Im laughing, telling him that he has things I cant currently afford, and Im working! Then he starts saying something about his wife or parents died, he had been through some pretty bad tragedy, and decided to cut loose and go to Cal because he had never seen the ocean. He said he was pretty happy with things, being on the pacific coast, cool air, said he feels a lot "freer". This guy, I had a lot of respect for, he really had a lot of integrity. I told him, because of the way you are, things are going to get alot better sooner or later.

Well, I havent had much to post lately, but just recently I ran accross something while "goofing off" at work that caught my attention. At first it was just entertainment, but reading this guys story really made me think, and after careful consideration it pretty much changed my mind about something. I thought I would post it here if anyone were interested. The story is pretty much uneventful for the most part. so dont look for any entertaining aspects because you wont find any, this is pretty much a presentation of the facts as it was witnessed. And we can expect that. Science fiction is entertaining, reality is usually boring. We can see that even in true stories, there is some fiction included to make things more interesting...not so in this one. I had a discussion with the author over email, Ill post this later on this thread for anyone interested. For anyone who is a skeptic, I dont blame you, but skeptic or not your opinion is worth something pertaining to this subject. Above Black

Dont worry Ill be joining yall again around October when it gets closed out around here. Anyone know anything about the wind tunnel in Perris? I dont think its too far away from here, good way to ramp back up for this winter. Looks like I spoke too soon about the weather here, today we have overcast and cold, yesterday no waves and didnt catch shit on that shortboard. Well time to go sit out in the ocean for the next 5 hours...hope theres a few waves this time. Cant even get on my brand new 6'7 with the kind of shit thats been out there. Maybe I can get one of those great whites to push me into a wave...
