  1. You're such a nice, friendly person. And I say that with no sarcasm intended. or anyway, none that you should read into it Annnyways....think I need to go for a runnnnn. Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst
  2. Mm very true, they are pricey. They also last a lot longer than normal rubber bands. And (for me) they make stowing the lines faster and easier. I'm prepared to pay for that. However, if they're less safe than normal rubber bands, I'll go for those even though they're more hassle when it comes to packing. Oh and it' SO skydiver-ish to whine and complain about $5-$10 and then go shell out $200 on a weekend's worth of jumps . Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst
  3. A friend once said "I am not a hopeless romantic simply because I believe there's nothing hopeless about being a romantic" Maybe it's true. About relationships: dunno, really. I hope you're right. Never experienced what you talk about myself and I tend not to get involved nowadays, but I've seen some of my friends and family find partners where there's 'magic' or something that seems like it. That ought to be encouraging, at least. Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst

    Cheating...

Don't get into a relationship to start with and you'll find your life many times easier. My biggest worrys basically whether to wear dirty colour coordinated socks or clean ones that are in different colours. The latter usually wins as I don't like to smell :) Oh and the answer is dump and move on. Otherwise there'll always be a lingering doubt and some mistrust. 5. Very interesting arguments so far. If anyone has more, add them. I'm not wholly convinced one way or another, as there seems to be some disagreement on this issue. As a newbie you like everything to be clear - black vs white. I'm not so dumb I think this is always the case. Perhaps this is a contentious issue? 6. Read this article and the author stresses that rubber bands are better because they break. I use tube stows (find 'em more convenient). Should I drop them and use normal rubber bands? Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst

    Muslim...

Nope. Didn't call them races at all. I called them groups. Because they aren't races, does that mean it is okay to harass them based on something else? Well semantically speaking, turtlespeed is then right when he says it's not racism, no? Bigotry perhaps yes, but not racism. racism n 1: the prejudice that members of one race are intrinsically superior to members of other races 2: discriminatory or abusive behavior towards members of another race [syn: racialism, racial discrimination] If the bigotry is based on other factors than race, it wouldn't be racism.. A blanket statement such as "I intently dislike the views found in the Muslim/Christian world that women are inferior or subservient to men" wouldn't be a racist one. It'd be a culturally based (more specifically religious) and of course a gross oversimplification. But racist? No. Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst

  16. Have one as a neighbor. White kid, early twenties. Plays his downloaded Tupac videos at full blast always when he's home. Since he's white he ain't "real ghetto style" so he has to have pals of African origin. So there's a bunch of wannabe gangstah Somalis there all the time with a vocabulary where 'fuck' appear to exist several times. They're all 'dogs' too and when they're not talking about "gotcha back" they're talking shit about each other, stealing beer, throwing stuff on the floor and stomping (I live in the apartment beneath this white boy). The Gangstah Badness is sort of lost when the chaps, drunk as skunks, start singing traditional Somali songs, intertwined with a few 'fuck' and 'dog' words here and there. There aren't any ghettos in Denmark but they sure seem hellbent on creating some, since society obviously have let them down by paying all their bills, not setting any requirements for 'em and letting them use the race card at any time. They generally just run around trying (succesfully because they're a mob) to scare people and acting all tough. Can tell you many stories but won't bother except with this last occurence. So I'm outside waiting for a friend to pick me up - going to the DZ. I put down my kitbag and sit on the stairs waiting. And they come, loud and obnoxious and pretentious. I ignore 'em. Then one of them opens my kitbag. There's a bit of tension which increases as their English and Danish is so bad they resort to Somali in their attempts to to convince me it's theirs and I have no business with it. Begins to look a bit ugly and I get worried. There's some shuffling as they push me and I stand my ground. It's my sisters rig for chrissakes, can't just leg it. It's getting uglier and uglier, I'm outnumbered big time and not a fighter anyhow and I know some of them got knives and previous convictions for using them. More pushing, one of 'em hits me in the side with a fist. "Skydive rig, you know jump from plane. Don't touch it, it will open, big poof" I say, which earns me blank stares and a flood of words. More shuffling, an open hand slap to my head as I reach down to try to make them let go. I tellum I don't want a fight. Calls of wuss and whatnot. I don't care; just wanna get outta that situation and fast. "Parachute. Like Lara Croft jumping from building?" They finally get it when the pilot chute falls out of the BOC while I try to remove their hands. I'm very worried by now - thinking it was a bad idea to say that Croft bit. Maybe they'll want it bad enough now. Apparently they think that parachutes are cool and they pat me on the back and laugh and do sounds. I kid you not. Then they tell me "get fuck out white boy". I just scoop the kitbag up, close it and walk away. My cell phone is inside my apartment and I end up missing the ride to the DZ and thereby any chances of a few jumps. Fucking idiots. I hate the fact that these young punks can do what they do. Low life nobody's like them made me apprehensive. And I'm not allowed to own any kind of self defense devices in Denmark. "That's what we're here for" the cops once told me. Like their presence 15 minutes after one has been cut to shreds or had ones arse kicked will help. I'm so angry right now I'm literally shaking and it's three hours after the incident. They manage to scare the shit outta me and all I can do is call the police which result in absolutely nothing. Anything could have happened. All because they so badly want to be badarse gangstahs. Idiots. I hope they get themselves killed. Need to vent. Sorry for long post. Just needed to share. 20. Aye, I experienced the same thing. Also made me feel like not just a wannabe, but more like a part of the community. That and more experienced jumpers actually talking to me on the plane ride up was reassuring and felt good. Am a beginner still at 66 jumps but I try to do the same for students. Also a good way to start future friendships
  21. Heh, landed in a tree on my first SL jump (guided in by radio over the hangars, 280 canopy, high winds an me weighting 140lbs and being a n00bie probably had some influence there). Then did my AFF Level I - bad spot and I landed 2km from the DZ in a field - standing up. Then did a bunch of shitty landings. Started to land standing but every once in a while I'd fall. I think it also ahs something to do with the fact that as a student, you jump different canopies quite often. I'd go from a 280 to a 240 to a 260 to a different 280 and they all had slightly different landing characteristics. Add different wind strengths and directions and levels of turbulence and it's easy to see why it's hard to consistently stand up as a student. Some manage that - I started doing it when I almost exclusively jumped the 240s. To the original poster: follow the great advice given here and don't sweat it. It's natural to do some arse landings as a student. Look at eventual bruises as badges of pride - you've been skydiving
  22. Am wondering what the general consensus is on jump numbers for being a beginner, lowtimer, intermediate and so forth? I do recognize that numbers alone are not necessarily indicative of skill but using the law of averages it's probably not too bad a way of measuring experience/skill. I consider myself a beginner, having only 66 jumps. Will stay so til I round say 150 jumps, by which I'll advance to low timer. My sis rounded 250 jumps recently and she's confident she's a low timer (I'd agree; how does 250 odd jumps compare to a few thousands?). Perhaps it should be measured more qualitatively and individually, but that'd be resource consuming and hard to implement. What are your ideas of beginner/lowtimers etc? 23. The Safire 149 I now jump PRO packed opens in between 300 and 800 feet. My sister told me it used to be snivelly when it was new, so I have the pc out at around 3500 or so, just in case. Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst
