Yeah I know dude. Last sunday we had snow enter the C-182 when we were dropping below the low clouds (3700 feet). We all got wet, the gear got wet and no more lifts that day. Santa at 4000 meters, getting ready to do a linked sit exit with sis. Cloudcover is thick and extensive but there gotta be a hole somewhere. Pilot: "2 minutes til drop" ATC: "Say what??" Pilot: "2...minutes...til...drop" ATC: "Umm, we're enveloped in clouds, can you see through?" Pilot: "Ummm. Permission to descend through clouds. Will make another 2 minute call later" ATC: "Alright Oscar Juliet Papa, cleared for descent" So we start the descent. Which continues and continues. At 1300 meters we finally break through. 2 minute call, door opens. And SNOW flies into the plane. It was only -10C at 4000 meters and it dinnae look like it was raining when we got to 1300. Looks like Mr Winter is approaching fast anyway. Not that it discourages the 5 in front of me - out they go. I do too, wondering what snow will feel like in free fall. OuchOuchOuchOuchOuchOuchOuch wtf-can't -see-much-through-goggles-ah-there's-Morten's-pilotchute-time-to-dump. OuchOuchOuch COOOOOOLD "Umm. Can't feel my fingers. Pants are wet and there's ice melting on my goggles. My canopy is gonna have to be hung up to dry. Maybe they can put me up next to it. Skydiving kicks buttocks". By this time I'm happy my instructor had ok'd me for the Spectre(sp?) 150 some 15 jumps before. A 140lbs dude under a 280 in those conditions would mean I'd either starve or freeze to death before I got anywhere near the ground. Spiral down, nice landing just off the T, canopy on back and a sprint into the packing area. Agh, winter means little or no jumping. And I just got started a few months ago. I think it is unfair somehow. I'd move, but I'm an unemployed bum and all the good cardboard boxes are taken. I fear the winter depression will be a *real* bitch this time around. Know the feeling bro. It'll fade away over some time, but it's an awful feeling while it lasts . Some say one cannot feel pure pleasure without having felt pure pain. If you hold this belief (which I do) then the future is looking good. Loneliness only last if you want it to. Time has a way of changing things - for better or worse. With loneliness you tend to have it quite lousy, so the odds are in your favour of things improving. It's not that you haven't got anyone. it's just that there are few which can match the PDS awesomeness - and why settle for less, eh?

Here in Denmark ya don't get to do RW from the get go. Usually you get your cert (40 jumps + packing cert etc) and then you can find an instructor willing to go through the WARP or BBF program. Having done that succesfully you get a stamp on yer card and then yer set to go out flying with others. Anyway, since I ain't planning on breaking the no stamp - no other people rule, I figured I'd do some RW through WARP. That shite is HARD! Had big problems with the coordinated turns and side slides. And whenever I'd try to go up to the instructor I tended to also go forward. And wtf is with me and docks - I seem to think FAST IS GOOD . And mebbe it'd be a good idea if I sorta looked and listened for the count instead of just standing there on the wheel and smiling dumbly. Got to do my first 4 way. Almost made a point. Not my fault as I was gripping the instructor while my sis and another girl tried to dock. The three way we did more points in but I was retty good at screwing it up. Let go of a grip and I'd slide back a few meters and then having not flown with booties on much before I'd afterburn my way in and funnel the whole thing Never thought one could lose altitude awareness - I mean I thought it'd be natural to be aware of the fact that you'd splat down if ya don't get a canopy out. Almost did in one jump - looked down on the alti after what I figured were 10-15 seconds to see it reading 1500 meters. "Forget about that last point dude". My respect for RW fliers grew exponentially with every jump. That stuff is hard. But man, was it fun. Got the stamp. Weather's fine and first lift is in 1.5 hours. Ah well it's not that I'm terrified about the ride to alt - I just don't like it much especially when we're low. I gather skydiving is, as was said, more dangerous than flying. But when pilots go into the plane, they have *control*. When I go in, there's not a whole lot I can do if something happens. Never was much of a control freak I thought. Might be my inexperience talking too. Only got 56 jumps. 25 of 'em are from twin engine planes (Islander, Nomad). I actually like the Cessna-182. I'll just use this as an excuse to get more jumps :).
