Don't much like the plane ride...

Especially the first 1000 feet or so. The fear of skydiving has subsided into anticipation/butterflies in tummy/nervousness, but now I worry about the plane ride instead. If I am in the rear of the C-182 and anything happens, I'm SOL. Am usually amongst the last out since I'm a freeflier, so that position is almost standard for me. Edit: it's no claustrophobia. Have no problems going into tight spaces when I wreck dive. It's the thought of not being able to get out in time if something happens. Of not being able to influence the outcome. Don't fancy turbulence too much either. And there are gliders at the DZ where I jump. Once above 6000 I can relax - I have a chance of getting out. Others say they have no worries about the ride to alt, leaving me to feel a bit like a sissy. Surely there are other skydivers who think it'd suck to be a skydiver and if one has to go, then die because the plane crashed? Well, it's a 30 minute ride to altitude. Peoples legs start to fall asleep and there's a lot of shuffling at times. Then when you turn around to face the door you bump into either the plane or others. I take care to ahve a hand over my pc/flaps but in some spots turning around one handed can be difficult - even if you're not wearing student gear. Add a tandem and it gets really cramped. The thing with pin checks is that when you need 'em most, they're hardest to do. I've seen plenty of jumpers on C-182s and C-206's forego the pin check because "it's too much trouble in such a cramped up space". I'd think that because it's very cramped would be a compelling reason to get one. Admittedly, it can be a wee bit hard on a C-182 and you bump into others doing it (heard this as an argument against doing pin checks in 182s). It's easier when people have turned around but by then there's not a whole lotta time. In my excitement I've forgotten to get one a couple of times. I jump mostly with my sister nowadays though and sorta like the reassuring slap-on-the-helmet 'you're good' thing she does. Santa Von GrossenArsch I only come in one flavour ohwaitthatcanbemisunderst

So I'm suffering bad from skydiveinnitus - boredom, irritability a big DOSOMETHING-ANYTHING-NOW in my head. Look up the local dz. Looks like they have a couple of tandems - ie space for me. WOOH. I quickly take a shower, pop in my lenses, get all my gear ready and am singing 'what a beautiful day' when i decide to check the calendar again. It's not today, it's TOMORROW! Dudes, I shit you not. Bah, Amazon. Everyone knows we sent only those who couldn't hack it back in good ol' tough Europe. 'Freedom'. So overrated. 'Tis better to be told what to do by an immoral lord set upon dominating everyone and everything, opressing all in sight. And going to bed with an empty stomach builds character! Beside, the next meal of grass and rotten fruit taste all so much better because of it. I have no understanding at all that some weak Europeans could want a better life.

So there I was, packing my canopy. Think it was my 7th pack job or something like that. Can hear some noise and am told it's people in free fall. I look up to see 'em deploy, then go back to continue packing. "Umm, what's that Adidas shoe doing on my canopy?" Wouldda been hit by it if I didn't take a wee break to look at the ones above, heh.
