Sorry to hear you are leaving. I too, have lost many friends jumping....16 at one time, and I know its hard to sometimes carry on. I hope you keep well, and dont forget to look up once in awhile. The sky is always your 2nd home...and you can return if you want, and I for one, would be happy to hear that you did. Meanwhile, take good care, and God bless you wherever you go, whatever you do. Thanks for taking the time to say good bye.... Bill Cole D-41

Using E thread one must remember it is nylon, which will be subject to any high speed needle use, causing friction, heat, and your thread will break. Try to use the machine (whichever one you have) by sewing in small lengths (maybe 6 to 10 inches at a time) of stitching, then stop, then sew again. That "stop" allows a quick cooling of the needle, and is less likely to heat and break your thread. I used a Singer machine to repair parachutes and hot air balloons for years, and they serve well. I once tore a balloon from the top lateral band to the lower lateral band....what a sewing job that was...up and down the entire balloon several times. Bill Cole D-41

I do not see the revelance in your comment about helmets and technology. Back in 1964, at the AGM of CSPA, there was a big discussion about helmets. The big song then was " If you have a $10.00 head wear a $10.00 helmet" Ive jumped without one many times, and the big head of hair I "used to have" has all blown away.. SOB SOB. I wear one now, to save what little hair is left. I did have one nasty crack while wearing a helmet as I collided with another jumper during a demo jump. If we hadnt had helmets, we would have had headaches...biggies at that. The main resons for helmets back then was because the connectror links could give you quite a crack on the skull as your rig deployed. It was also to save your noggin from hitting rocks or anything hard on landing....if you didnt do standups. As for a Cypress, I have never worn any AAD, and never would. If there was one on a rig I was using, Id have it turned off. Sometimes I dont wear an altimeter either. Sometimes I wear an altimeter that doesnt work too well, its window dressing. The rules say you have to wear an altimeter...it doesnt say it has to work. I can pull on someone else...or eyeball it. I always obey DZ rules and open where they say I have to....but if allowed, then I pick my spot. As long as its above ground. Im comfortable with that...but I do obey DZ rules SOB SOB. I dont see the connection between tech and helmets used back in the other days. Bill Cole D-41

One other thing I admire about the "American Way" is the generosity of the USA to ANY country in the world when there is a disaster, flood, earthquake, ANTHING. The USA is always the first one in with aid, and the last one out, with no thanks given by the country in need. Yet the USA still goes back again and again with more aid...more money...more relief...more effort...more of anything they have. The USA is ridiculed by almost every other country, and yet the USA still jumps right in to help. A good example, bailing France out of two wars with their now good friends, the germans, both of those countries failing to support anything the USA does. God Bless the USA. Bill Cole D-41

I think the greatest simple pleasure I have, is watching the thousands of ducks and geese as they fly around here. This is especially interesting when they come in for landing. The geese do what is known as Whiffling, and roll onto their side while gliding in, thus dropping about 6 to 10 feet, before leveling off again. Its their way of losing altitude fast. The ducks stop flapping their wings, and tip the ends down, sometimes wobbling side to side, losing altitude fast. Its a real air show and I'll stop my car anytime anywhere to watch it.
