Thanks people, thanks. The truth of the matter is that while I was a member of the association, CSPA gave me the FAI certificate which endorses the jump as the "official" Canadian record, and in the same envelope, was a notice that I was being suspended from CSPA, and they didnt even provide a reason.. Later they decided to devise a second set of records, (the CPSA records) and at that time, I was not a member, so they wouldnt allow my jump to be a part of the CSPA records. Would you believe I was so sad for a month, I could hardly eat. Truth is I never missed a meal. LOL CSPA has two sets of records to recognize....those endorsed by the FAI, and their own set, which excludes me. (Sort of like the ENRON of parachuting) Oh well, live goes on. Incidentally, I gave the FAI certificate away to Rob Price. I kept a couple of photo copies. Anyhow, thanks for your support...I appreciate it mucho Bill Cole D-41 CSPA licence LOL

It was 31 years ago today that I made the highest jump in Canada, from 36,916 ft. Two minutes and twentnine seconds freefall, and CSPA doesnt want to recognize it as the record. Instead they claim one at about 30K. The FAI issued a certificate for mine, and sent it through CSPA to me...and they still dont want to see it as the Canadian record.. LOL Bill Cole D-41

I think there should be no person on dropzone.com unleass they are willing to state their name and all relevant information about themselves in their profile. What are they ashamed of anyhow?...their name?

Its hard to comment on a book of which you have only provided the title. If the book is suggesting that materialism and greed are satisfactory incentives to be driven, then the book is wrong.....I said IF, because you havent elaborated on its contents. Bill Cole D-41

It seems the radio station that reported "another" 12 marines dead, was actually referring to the ones killed a day ago. They must have got it from the "used News" department. However, they did say that more than 60 Iraqis were killed since then. What can you expect from a Canajun radio station, eh? Bill Cole D-41

8 am April 7th 2004....another 12 marines killed today... I still say...do whatever it takes to win...or get out and become Vietnam II. However, I realize the USA will not get out, and I agree they may end up in Iran before too long, where they will go through this type of thing all over again Bill Cole. D-41

I am just sick over the loss of Americans...and I reallyu dont like killing other humans, but the manner of the Iraqis crosses the line of human beings. They are more cruel than the enemies of WW II, and I really dont want to see another Vietnam. I feel so sorry for those at home in America, waiting every day to hear about their loved ones. The worst thing is the Islamic terrorists will soon strike again on American soil...and thats not going to be nice. Even the administration says that is inevitable. What a world .... Bill Cole D-41

I didnt mean to imply that the daisey cutters should be dropped anywhere that they would cause death or injury...just a show of force against those who are slaughtering American soldiers with bombs buried in the road, ambuses, and every other kind of betrayal they can devise. Its time the Americans went in to WIN this war...and by not doing so, there will be a lot more American deaths. Stop playing stupid games...win the war or go home. Bill Cole

Many Happy Returns Amazon....Have a great day...and all the blessings it can bring you

I think it would be a good idea if the US Forces dropped about 15 Daisey Cutter bombs around the outskirts of Baghdad...and watch those snivelling murdering Iraqi cowards crawl back into their holes. Then they should pass a law...anyone carrying a gun anywhere in Iraq (not members of the coalition) will be shot ...doesnt matter who, where, when, or why. carry a gun or weapon...you are daid....real daid. Considerations when chopping a rental canopy
chuteless replied to Nightingale's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nuts...I'll fix it on the ground after landing with my reserve.. A simple line twist a couple of times around, can be recognized instantly....no need to chop, anything else from the hiccups to a total...chop chop Bill -
Considerations when chopping a rental canopy
chuteless replied to Nightingale's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
First of all, I wasnt talking about a simple one or two times around line twist, although that can cause a toggle to be locked down so you cannot control the canopy. I am talking about a malfunction where the canopy is so fouled up, still in the bag, or evident that it is not going to inflate...something that should be easily recognizable. If that is the case..CHOP CHOP quickly. Once it is gone, there is no reason why the reserve wont open...although there is a one in ten million or so chance it too may also have a malfunction. pretty small chance of it not opening as long as the main is gone. A much better chance of survival than trying to "work out the problems of a bad main anytime" I have seen a line twist to the left, for example, with a toggle tied down and locked in the twist causing the canopy to turn rapidly to the right, and that line twist can NEVER come undone. The student had the presence of mind to puch the "talk" button on her radio and said" what should I do" I didnt even have the word "CUTAWAY" out of my mouth and she was separeted from the main, and the Stevens cutaway system opened the reserve. She's still alive today. Landing with that main, would have killed her. I would never put a person in that predicament and say "see if you can clear it" CUTAWAY...thats the only way. If you are ever called to take the gear of a dead skydiver, you'll think hard on any advice you give someone. I have done it, and will suggest cutaway every time. Ive used a reserve about 9 times...once when I didnt have enough alt to open a main...I trust a reserve anytime as long as the main isnt out and trailing behind. I even had one of those and the reserve past the main and opened. Great sight it was. Bill Cole D-41 -
Considerations when chopping a rental canopy
chuteless replied to Nightingale's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I dont agree. If you have a problem, get rid of it. I'd rather a person live and have to pay it off than see him killed.I think it is totally irresponsible to tell someone to try to untangle a malfunction before using the reserve. Absolutely irresponsible. I know of one person who tried to solve the problem with a tangled main chute and didnt realize the ground was coming fast. She DIED trying, although she waited to the very last minute to try using her reserve.shye hit the ground and it wasnt near fully deployed....A week to the very day, I told her to give up jumping because she wasnt cut out for it. She got mad at me..I dont care WHo it is or WHERE...if your main misbehaves...chop and save yourself. The tangled main can always be straightened out later...and if it cant be found. thats too damn bad......the live jumper will be. Bill Cole D-41 -
Thanks for the changes Sangiro. I think it makes for a nicer format, and will prevent some of the obvious problems the moderators were given through misuse of the English language....vague titles, and meaningless topics. Much obliged for all your hard work. Bill Cole D-41

Back in the days of cheapo canopies, I dyed several to hopefully, lower the porosity. I also dyed one container and harness. I used commecial dyes, and they had to be very hot. It can be done, but makes a mess of a tub (like washing machine style) and there is a lot of rinsing. If you contact a commercial dye manufacturer, he will tell you the do-s and dont-s, and the how to, in order to get the best results. Bill Cole D-41

Ive jumped with hard cast on wrist, and later on ankle. Didnt cause any problems. No reason why she shouldnt jump if she feels well enough. Bill Cole D-41

Considerations when chopping a rental canopy
chuteless replied to Nightingale's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would hate to think that someone would be killed because of having to fork over any amount of money rather than cutaway. If the main so much as hiccups, get rid of it and worry about the cost when safely back on the ground. I do feel, however, that the DZ should be responsible for the cost of replacing the main and the reserve repack. They are in business to rent these things to people who trust them, and that is part of the game. It is not up to the student to make sure he/she is over an open area so someone can find the main. They jump where they are told to by DZ personnel, and if the main is lost, that is not the students fault. A student should be ready to use the reserve without any intimidation from the DZ. Cindi graduated 7th AFF today. The following is for her. MY SOUL IS IN THE SKY Congrats on your jumping, You are a success, You've proved you could do it It wasnt a guess. And now when you dive out And fly in the blue, You'll be part of the sky And the sky part of you. Other people in freefall Will look at your face, And witness your pleasure While falling through space. You'll do tracking and hookups, And in all that you do, You'll be part of the sky And the sky part of you. A thousand thrills waiting As you thrust out the door And the wind hits your face As your feet leave the floor. You truly are flying Like a bird in the blue, With your soul in the sky And its beauty in you. I knew all along That you'd leap out that door, It wasnt so long From 0 3 to 0 4, Determination was present There was nothing to fear, Now the sky is all yours And you'll have to buy beer. May the wonderful blue sky give you all its treasures. Your SOUL IS IN THE SKY ! Best wishes always Bill Cole

a feeling of faint under an open canopy...
chuteless replied to Kuper's topic in Safety and Training
Perhaps it was from the spiral and S turns under canopy, which was right before you felt dizzy. I doubt the other things mentioned had any affect, as they were too far away from the time of dizzyness. If you repeat that kind of flight, make your turns slower, and your spiral, and have another jumper watching you in case you get a repeat of the dizzy spells. Bill Cole D-41 -
I just dropped my Russian PC off to ger a repair...will use it this summer. Bill Cole D-41

If you are landing at a dropzone, arrange to have several cars placed in a very large circle with their high beam headlights pointing into the circle. This will give you a reference point, and a pre lit target area. The circle can be about 300 feet in diameter. I went out at 30571 ft over canada's largest airport. I thought the runway lights would indicate the area, but from above the runway lights, they cannot be seen. The runways themselves showed up as a gray area, so they could still be a visual reference. Always carry a flashlihgt of some kind....you never can tell what is on the ground you're ' headed for. Bill Cole D-41

Banned? Suspended? What does it take?
chuteless replied to Jimbo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well Jimbo, Ive been suspended for over 30 years from CSPA....for going on televisioon and showing the chuteless film. That seemed to get some guys really unnerved...so goodbye....Ho Hum. Bill Cole D-41 -
You are absolutely right...they are a fun thing to do. If you can carry a good light in freefall, it will make your depth perception on landing that much better. There is no reason why you cant do one if you have 100 jumps or so. If you intend to do any relative work, the light is also useful....I liked it when the other guys I was filming at night wore light colored jumpsuits...made them easier to follow with camera and easier to see. Treat it as the same as a day jump with the lights turned off. Good luck Bill Cole D-41 Do it and enjoy it.

What a sad story. I knew a man who intentionally crashed his AT-6 during an airshow. He too had cancer. What a loss of one absolutely fabulous man, a real great guy. This world sure can be hard to live in. Bill Cole D-41
