The entries in my last two logbooks mainly consist of jump number, date, type aircraft and "AFF or Tandem or RW". However, do guard your logbook at all costs if you care about your progression at all. In 1983, on the day I was riding to the dropzone on my motorcycle to get the conference director to sign off on my gold wing award, my gear bag with all my logbooks (over 1000 jumps), rig, jumpsuits and helmets fell off the motorcycle somewhere between home and the DZ, about 75 miles, never to be found again. The conference director attested to my number of jumps and I at least, eventually got my gold wings. Got complete new gear with the renter's insurance settlement but man, still 20 years later, I sure would like to have those logbooks back. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

Both those very cute kittens look exactly like the one I got about 4 months ago. Enjoy them while they last, mine has already turned into a CAT. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

Had a bag lock on a tandem jump and elected to cut away but no matter how hard I pulled on the cut away handle it wouldn't budge. Well, my only option left was to dump the reserve into what was already up there and hope it cleared. Fortunately, after a couple of tension filled moments of doubt, it cleared and opened. The baglock was then suspended below us and I hauled in baglock, drouge and all the lines I could just in case it decided to start coming out of the bag. I handed the bag and drogue to my passenger and told him to hang on to it and not let it get away from him. After that, the jump was pretty uneventful and the student was pretty calm considering what we had been through. Can't remember the cause of the cut away system problem but we later found out that it was not an uncommon occurance for that particular tandem system in the early 90s. Thats funny, after 12 years, I still wonder that same thing everytime I open a certain desk drawer in my office room at home and see the ring box with both rings in it. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

Old school skydiving still rocks

Not saying that back up thingys are bad and when l get back to jumping (Yeah, I most likely will someday) I definately wouldn't get back in the air without an AAD, got too comfortable using them in tandem jumping. Probably I'm way out of line here but it just seems funny that with as much emphasis as is placed on freefall backup gadgets, why in Hell does it appear that there is some lack of the same concern for safety margins when it comes to landings? When I laid off jumping in 1996, the incidents of landing fatility / injury had been on the increse along with the steady prolifiration of ZP canopies and the unknowns that were associated with them and seven years later, it still seems to be increasing Why is it so hard to learn that if you're gonna fuck around on a small extremely fast canopy, don't do it so close to the ground. I can't help wondering why so many jumpers of today feel the overwhelming need for audible backups, aads, much higher main deployment altitudes, etc. when all I read about in the Incidents Forum are people who either killed or horribly injured by flying an open canopy into the ground. OMG, I tried "Smart Dogs" about six months ago and it tasted like a rubber garden hose. Did they really do any marketing research before they put that shit on the market? The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

What memories. I was at three of the gatherings represented in your pictures. I was in the "Salute to The Duke" picture but not one of the participants. If you look in the upper left of the picture there is a poster with John Wayne and another person standing by him. That other person is me. I got to have my picture taken with him when he flew into the FBO where I worked in 1976. I had a poster made and gave it to Fred Elsner the DZO who was a "Duke Freak". I was also at the SCR ceremony and at the McKinney DC-3 boogie but didn't make it into any any of the pictures. Thanks for putting them up. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

Same here. I have to have one for work for one night a week, otherwise, it's never on! Also, same here on your signature. ________________ I like cole slaw. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

Michelle, consider the bitterness caused because you didn't let it fly. Just think of the bitterness that you could have generated and we could have built upon if you had. Come on, let us have it.

Did I ask you for a gear check?
usedtajump replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yep, I had a problem with that, too. It's the same as intentionally touching another person without their permission, kinda rude. The older I get the less I care who I piss off. -
What's your worst ride up to altitude???
usedtajump replied to kitof1976's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My B-17 jump. That thing was so noisey and full of rattles and pops that we thought it was going to fall apart around us. We were supposed to go to 9500 ft and do an 8 way but after 20 minutes we were only at 4000 feet and we told the pilot that we'd had enough, turned him back ot the airport and jumped. Don't know if all B-17s are that slow and rickety but, for me, I didn't ever again try to find out. The older I get the less I care who I piss off. -

I remember when in either the 60s or 70s, the Chevrolet marketing campaign for the Chevy Nova in Mexico and South America was such an abysmal failure. Seems Nova in Spanish means something similar to "won't run". Can any Spanish speakers out there confirm this? The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

Not even. After retiring from skydiving I took a few sailplane lessons just to see what kind of thrill might be had. Good cure for insomnia. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
