A spin that develops, primarily on tandem jumps, when a pair gets into a side to earth position prior to drouge release and the spin that is generated gets so intense, so quick that it is almost unrecoverable. Holy shit, tell the story!! This was in 1980 in Stephenville, TX. Now Stephenville is out in the middle of nowhere and not normally a DZ but Cy Fraziers DC-3 was there that weekend and about 300 skydivers were camped out on the airport. One guy, in a pop up camper, had a yappy little dog with him that would go nuts for about 10 minutes every time a coyote yipped making it very difficult for others in the camping area to sleep, screw, concentrate on their "high" or whatever. About 2 in the morning people started getting annoyed and yelling for him to shut the damed dog up. Finally, one guy got so pissed off that he stormed out of his tend, locked and loaded his pistol where the guy in the pop up could hear it, and yelled at him to shut the f***ing mutt up or he was going to do it for him. The atmosphere in the immediate camping area suddenly became very thick. Well.... the dog owner didnt take very kindly to this threat and stuck a pistol out the window of the camper and told him that shooting his dog would be the last thing he did. Both suddenly saw the wisdom of calming down and negotiated ther way out of the situation. The dog owner agreed to move his location to the far end of the airport much to the joy of everyone in the immediate area. Yeah, I know. It would have been more interesting if it had been about women, drug deals gone bad or anything more dramatic than a barking dog but you take what you can get.

My wife's 11 year nephew plays baseball and soccer. After attending a couple of his games in each sport, I refuse to go watch any more of it. Damn adults have pretty much taken over any leisure time activity that kids have traditionally learned lessons of self reliance, fairness and coping with the dissapointment of having things not go your way and turned it into a homogonized "no one is a loser" non event. When we were jumping at Aero Country north of Dallas in the mid 80s, we had Spaceland's Twin Otter there for a while. One Sunday afternoon, an observer got off the aircraft after his ride while the engines were still running and walked head down into the port side prop and was decapatated. To add to the gross out factor of this unfortunate individual's bad luck, the DZOs two dogs had to be run out of the area after they started licking brain matter and blood up off the ramp.
