  1. Damn, that must've sucked...well...all besides the living part. Hmmm, McGee, MS, 1983, Cessna. That Cessna wouldn't have been John Mitchell's blue and white 64G by any chance would it? The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  2. Wednesday morning at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be 01:02:03 04/05/06. You may now return to your normal stuff. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  3. One each 1968 Fender Precision and 1971 Gibson EBO bass guitars and original cases, Peavy 400 Bass Amp., 1970 Gibson Firebird six string guitar and original case and a 1963 Fender Tremlux amp. Aw well, at least they went for a good cause. You should see what that stuff is selling for at vintage guitar shows now days. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  4. Long but worth well worth the read. As Jerry Rouillard used to say while we were on the demo circuit and things didn't go as planned "Well, that's carney jumping". The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  5. Clite, I thought that was Arnquist but wasn't sure, same with Embry but sure would never have recognized O'Neil. Tell Bobby hi. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  6. A lady was picking through the frozen turkeys at the grocery store, but she couldn't find one big enough for her family. She asked a stock boy, "Do these turkeys get any bigger?" The stock boy replied, "No ma'am, they're dead." The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  7. Probably PCA had already changed to USPA but USPA was too cheap to discard all the PCA forms and used them anyway. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  8. Well, I recognize Bob Chaffin, Bruce Head, Bruce Cunningham, Scott Wall, Vickie and Lupe Gonzalez, Bobby Brown, Gary Hollingshead, Leslie Gott and a couple other faces who's names are lost in the haze of time. This could have been at McGregor, TX in 1977 or McKinney, TX in 1978. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  9. I think I know who the lady is but not sure enough to take a guess but the guy in the background looks like Ron Cox which would place the picture in the Dallas area. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  10. The story I got was that Chris had a total and the combination of his cast and the ski gloves prevented him from deploying his reserve. He went through the roof of a house into the living room where a guy was kicked back on his couch listening to his stereo. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  11. Chris was still recovering from his self described achievement of becoming "Ground Plane #1". (Survived landing a down plane) He was jumping in cold weather with heavy gloves and a CAST on one arm. He went in San Antonio with nothing out. Took out part of a house too. The attached photo is a shot of a drawing he did on a dry eraser board. It's me putting students out on rounds at Metroplex Parachute Center in Decatur, Texas. It's a classic, and I'm glad I photographed it. _____________________ The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  12. I have a poster Chris made for Metroplex Skydivers while he was living at the drop zone in Decatur, TX in 1982 but am too tech challenged to upload a picture of it. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  13. The above reference comparing a car to an appliance is brilliant. I refuse to by a new car again for several reasons but the main reason is they're all pretty much boring for the money spent. These days, I drive used cars that are cheap to acquire and when they're done, like a BIC lighter, they're left where they die. The current one I bought for $2,000.00 in 2002 and it still runs great. I drive it from Kentucky to Dallas and back every month. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  14. I've had Keller's # 5, pretty good but another Dallas burger that's even better is a Point burger from one of 5 different Point sports bars around town. The most unusual burger I've ever had was a garlic burger at the Cotton Bottom Club in Salt Lake City. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

  16. I remember this happening but am somewhat hazy as to the details. It seems Jeff was jumping a rig which had the pilot chute mounted on a belly band. Also mounted on this belly band was a flag which was to be deployed after opening. Seems that the bag containing the flag was inadvertently mounted over the bridle cord for the pilot chute creating a pilot chute in tow situation. Jeff tried to remedy the situation by attempting to cut the bridle with a hook knife and messed with it until way too low resulting in his death. Jeff bounced off some high tension power lines creating a power outage in the local area. I think this was his demo team's first show together. Attended his memorial service, the first of many such events attended. This is just what I remember and if anyone else has more detailed information, please jump in here. 17. I watched ice dancing night before last and all the falls that occured and the childish reaction of that Italian drama queen as a result, certainly livened up an otherwise ho hum event. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  18. I know the feeling you refer to and it happened to me after 20 years so I took a break from skydiving to see if my outlook toward it changed. Well, it'll be 10 years this coming May and I've made a total of five jumps since the break. Still don't miss it much, but I guess the intrest in the concept of skydiving is still there as I like visiting this website but as far as actually jumping again, don't think so. Besides, I've got my farm, a John Deere tractor, a motortcycle and endless country roads to ride it on to keep me busy. Hope it works out for you to stay in skydiving but if it doesn't, no big deal. 19. There was a Loadstar at Rosharon, close to Houston, in the late 70s. A friend of mine was seated on it about midship when it stalled on jump run. He said he went weightless and floated back and out the door. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  20. Looks like a perfect application for Upsidaisyum. (You'll have to dig back into Rocky and Bullwinkle for that one). The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  21. Upndownshop, Aggiedave, this sounds somewhat familiar. I had heard Bob Chaffin mention something about such an organization when I first started back in 1978 but its's buried in the fog of time. Can't remember if it was just an idea that never came about or was an actual orginazation. Jerry Felts The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  22. Jeff, beautifully put. There was no ego or self importance in Bob's method of instruction, just the essential information for the task at hand. Made learning so much clearer and much easier to recall when you really needed it. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  23. Russ, Bob put me out on my first jump in 1978 at Seagoville and packed my first save also ( which you have a picture of ). What sad news that he passed. Edited to say: That guy on the right was an ex Dallas cop who had broken his leg so bad that he had to quit jumping long before I ever made my first jump. Can't remember his real name but he went by a nick name of Whimpy or Windy or something like that. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  24. While making his 4th (dummy ripcord pull) static line jump on military surplus gear in 1979 at Seagoville Texas, David Armstrong's brother (sorry David, his name escapes me but I'll call him Mark) ended up with two canopies out. Now, anybody that knows David knows that he is deaf and anybody that knows knows Mark knows that he is equally as deaf. Well, the jumpmaster that had worked with Mark since his ground school (had to use a sign interpreter to do the ground school) DUH, ended up flying around Mark's two round canopies yelling and we could hear it very clearly from the ground, at the top of his lungs, repeatedly, all the way to the ground but to no avail to Mark, "CUT AWAY"!!! . Luckly, Mark walked away from the incident and everyone made sure the above mentioned instructor was duly shamed. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
  25. Great historical information, Kallend. Kind'a puts things in in a different perspective. WOW! The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
