I noticed Bobby Crump, D-210 on the list. My father used to work with him at a barber shop in the late 50s in Dallas when I was about 12 years old. Bobby is the one who got me hooked on skydiving at a very early age by inviting me out to the DZ and even taking me up as an observer (not a big deal back then even though I was 12). When I saw the three jumpers exit the aircraft, I knew that was sometthing I just had to do. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

The first time I jumped at AC I had about 20 jumps. Naturally, I went for the peas that are pictured above at the North end of the runway but to my astonishment, all the other jumpers on the load landed at the South end of the runway. After the mile walk back to the packing area, I was told that they had quit using the peas about six months before that and everybody was now landing at the South end by the airport office. Information I could've used before take off. The older I get the less I care who I piss off. -

What ever happened to Sammy Ramos?
usedtajump replied to riggermick's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Yeah, I've often wondered the same thing. When I started out jumping in Dallas, Sammy was jumping at Seagoville then shortly after departed for CA. The first time I ever went to Perris, I knew no one there but Sammy and he got me on some loads I'd never have gotten on otherwise. The older I get the less I care who I piss off. -
"As to the Southern Gothic thing, we southerners tend to speak matter of factly about such things at the dinner table. My Uncle fell off his own tractor years back and got run over by the Bush Hog he was towing. We reckon he'd been doing some drinkin." Other than having a tandem student fall out of the harness, now that I'm farming, that's currently my worst nightmare. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

Great looking pup, good luck with him. We're going to the local animal shelter in Auust and get a mutt puppy for a farm dog to go along with our three farm (mutt) cats. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

Like the title says, this is the History forum. Things have changed a lot in the last 20/30 years. Sometimes I can't believe some of the shit that happened and I was there. (but just as an observer)

Is it really necessary the FS1 b4 you freefly?
usedtajump replied to meistwer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Jezzzz, that sounds familiar. When I started out, eons ago, I didn't want to do learn anything but RW or, if you will, belly flying. All the other skills (style, accuracy) were for those old guys who weren't quite with it anymore and seemed a waste of my time and money. Well, with a little encouragement from an old fart or two, I took a step back and listened and learned those disciplines. You'd be surprised how many of those techniques those old bastards taught me helped me progress to my ultimate goal with a greater degree of confidence and safety. Any skill you can learn in this sport will only enhance your ultimate goal and may just save your ass/arse someday. The older I get the less I care who I piss off. -
How many different type aircraft have you jumped from?

CARVAIR, hands down. Damn, I wonder if that Carvair is one of those that sat at Love Field in Dallas from avout 1973 to 1975. At the time, I thought they were just junk waiting to be scrapped then one day they all four flew out to who knows where. Or is that something I used to drive, oh wait, that was a Corvair. Wow Cutaway1, you were a "lineboy" too, so was I. Worked at Love Field in Dallas back in the 70s. I remember Loy's billboard in Times Square, it was pictured in a couple of magazines back then The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

awards and patches and what not
usedtajump replied to AndrewKarnowski's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes, but the SCR is a bit of a right of passage for many in skydiving. Typically its done for someone who doesn't quite have the skill to actually fly in and dock on an 8-way. They're the maggot and the 8-way is built around them. Sort of like here it is, now you know what its like, go learn how to do it. The first time you dock on a SCR for someone else brings it all together for you. The ceremony is important in this regard as well. Well said AggieDave. I remember weekends, very special weekends, where competing 182 DZs came together and the prime purpose was to have as many SCR dives as possible. These weekends were, for the most part low pressure, let it hang out, have fun affairs with the occasional skygod four plane formation loads where you might get to attempt a 16 way diamond or maybe a 16 way CRW diamond attempt.. After jumping was over for the day, the SCR ceremonies and partying with "rival" DZs went on sometimes until it was time for the sunrise load the next morning. GIV, nice gig. I worked for over 30 years in jet charter sales for about four different charter operators in the Dallas area, The last two, the ones still in business, were Million Air and Jet Aviation. I'm retired and living on our farm in Western Kentucky now.
-
Jack, who were you flying charter for? Used to be in the jet charter business myself. You probably don't remember this but you rode from Muskogee to Dallas with me one time after the Nationals in the mid 80s and we did a demo with Jerry Rouillard into something, maybe the Cotton Bowl or a rodeo, just can't remember the specifics..... or much of the drive, either. Have you ever paid cash for a brand new car?
usedtajump replied to jumpjunkie2004's topic in The Bonfire
Paid cash for a Lexus RX300 a few years back and still have it. I HATE car payments. The older I get the less I care who I piss off. -
Louisiana, what a backwater load of crap even before Katrina. I was born in and lived all my life in Texas until six months ago and when my old mom and dad are dead and gone, I'll never set foot there again either. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.

How Many Hrs./Wk Do You Work (and what's your position)
usedtajump replied to pBASEtobe's topic in The Bonfire
In the jet charter business I always did 40 to 48 hours a week depending if I was on call one week a month. Now, I don't do shit unless it's something I really want to do since I retired. Anyone who works 90 hours a week for someone else is either a Godamn fool or needs serious counseling. The older I get the less I care who I piss off. -
I still need North and South Dakota and Wisconsin and will have been to them all. Hoping to complete this next month. The older I get the less I care who I piss off.
