Well I have had only one reserve ride, I packed the chute, jump # 46 or so. It opened fine and I thought it was untill I tried to turn-LOL, then I realized that my pilot chute was around the nose and wrapped slightly in the line groups on the right, hence why so little reaction to a left toggle turn-LOL- the canopy began to slowly spin to the right and I was wayyyy off the dz, so BYE BYE. I'm dont think I would have done it any different if it happened now-LOL! Anyway I also do alot of packing, students tandems whatever with a clean record (knock knock) -LOL I definately prefer to pack my own, and I pack everyones just like I would my own, I think packing your own definately has lots of advantages, but on the other hand having someone else pack it for you has its advantages too. I would say pack your own, but if not at least know how your packer packs packs. If your dz has good ties with a manufacturer as mine does demo gear is generally available, depending on if someone hasnt bought all of them-LOL, you can probably still go through any dz to get your demo, and you can probably call the manufacturer directly yourself. When you finish student satus and start in on the rental gear jump a variety of canopies/container systems as possibly withing a SAFE limit and see what you are comfortable with. well you can do it on nearly any computer. 10-20 gigs or more harddrive if youll be doing it ALOT. Have a screaming processor, high bus speed, and gazoogles of RAM. Also you need a TV card, a vcr, and a tv of course. On the other hand if you just wanna take video directly from your camera and have it formatted for display on the web, Realproducer is free, from realplayer paople, you cant do much editing but you can convert it to a format widely used on the web. http://www.real.com if your going to be editing and doing tapes for people than the top is what youll want to go for. But you dont even need a computer for that. There are specific devices that you can buy to edit video with your camera, a cd player, and a couple tv sets. I'm not sure about them. I'm not the difinitive source on this by ANY means but I recomend you send it in. You want to make sure its in tip top shape huh? I mean I have heard rare stories of leaking batteries and that alone would be enough to make me send it in. I wouldnt want to take the chance of having it not work properly either. If its not in tip top shape it would kind of ruin the reason for having one in the first place. It probably is still fine, I dont know-LOL You dont have to get your reserve repacked EXactly the day it is due, but you wont be able to jump it if its out of date and some one saees it-LOL- I heard PD did a test on reserves being packed for different amount of times up to something like a year, and there was virtually no difference in openings. The folks surrounding our dz are VERY nice. Exept for when broken glider tow ropes drag across peoples rooftops and then its THOSE DAMN SKYDIVERS-LOL, If someone from the dz doesnt make it fast enough to pick folks up, the locals usually get a laugh out of giving rides to the jumpers, which is VERY cool. We should have a party for them(excuse to drink more). There have been afew fun stories where people landing off would land in the outfield of the local schools baseball games-LOL This has happened more than once. The school is less than a mile from the dz (by air) and its always good to hear the funny comments. Like the "he just came out of the sky!" mentioned above. Your paranoid and you are uncomfortable with your gear-LOL (JK man) Your very safety oriented and you dont like it when people take it lightly. (better?) I had a cool one for the first time in a while last week. I was a tour guide orr instructor or something showing folks this pier, I thought we were at the ocean and we walked up to the edge of the pier, cept instead of water it was about 15 grand AGL, so i got to do a base jump from 15 grand.
