What do you guys pay to jump at your DZ?
Unstable replied to Philly215's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
At Skydive KState We are $18 for your basic ticket to 10K and as little as $13 for a H&P to 5K or less. However, we charge $20 for semi-annual club dues, and gear rental (if you need) is $25 per semester. We operate a really nice little DZ - and we fly the hell out of our little Cessna - 25 loads a day is about average. I guess because we are a club, we have more flexibility - no DZO needs our lift tickets to pay his mortgage. I've been the treasurer off and on for a while, and I know what it takes to keep our bird flying and well maintained, and I get grouchy when I see Cessna tickets for more than $22. =========Shaun ========== -
Who got wet during water training?
Unstable replied to skydivermom's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've seen a few instructors who really don't believe in the water training! "I've seen people nearly drown doing that exercise" is a common utterance, but for the most part, we do ours at Skydive KState. We have a nice River at the end of the runway - Little Blue is it's name, methinks. Anyways, we usually just take a towel and tromp on over to the river and do it, there is a sand bar, and it's no more than 6' deep at it's deepest, a nice safe place to DO the training while not having to make a big deal about the whole production of it. =========Shaun ========== -

Unstable replied to Unstable's topic in The Bonfire
Okay, in accordance with a beloved DZ.com tradition - lets hear your fall schedules. For you old & graduated types, fell free to heckle all you'd like. I've got.... - Operations Research I - I think I'd rather shoot myself - Manufacturing Processes & lab - Basically a big shop class - Engineering Physics & lab - Fun with calculus - Introduction to Industrial Engineering - I should have taken this class my freshmen year. - Symphony orchestra - My favorite class. =========Shaun ========== -
Which EP Method is taught at your DZ?
Unstable replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We teach our students with an SOS system, so I guess the answer is -neither- Arch - look - reach - pull just the one handle with both hands. =========Shaun ========== -
This is a tough one....things I Never DREAMED I would do..... 1)Skydive 2)Get an Engineering Degree (Still working on it...) 3) Learn a Foreign language Fluently =========Shaun ==========

Hmmm, I wonder if that type of engine will find application in Powered Parachute or Ultra-light aircraft type birds!??! =========Shaun ==========

Yes. You can get a lot of good information here at DZ.com, but you need to go local for this one. Talk to the local rigger at your DZ. Talk to several Riggers. Go hang out at their house - watch them pack a reserve or two. Learn about the gear, and then the local riggers and instructors can point you in the right direction. Good luck on your first rig - Make sure you post pics when you get it!

PT-6 UNSUITABLE for Skydiving!?!?! WHAT!?!?
Unstable replied to Unstable's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Oh Really!?!? I'm just down the road from Sullivan, and this whole incident hit home to me.... I'm not trying to turn this thread into another Sullivan thread, my goal was to find out about the PT-6 engine, but this information does shine a lot of light on my initial question... Diverdriver..... Are most pilots educated on what their aircraft needs to survive an engine out situation? What type of 'on condition' loopholes do operators get away with this under? =========Shaun ========== -
Amazing - That must have taken some balls to even film that video - =========Shaun ==========

There is a cost for everything.
Unstable replied to diablopilot's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Here Here Watchyourstep. I agree completly, the Idea is to have people join the sport. I'll be honest, I've never heard of somebody PAYING $100 to learn to pack! I teach packing lessons all the time...almost everyweekend. Sunny has a good point though - If somebody came up to me and dropped their rig in front of me and wanted "help" packing, I'd probably tell them to go get lost. It's all in the attitude. I've found that by helping out and doing more for others usually come around in more for me some way or another... -
OH GOD OH GOD BUT WHEN I SAY GOD I REALLY DON'T MEAN IT LIKE THAT, I MEAN IT IN A NON-TRADITIONAL KIND OF WAY WHICH BY NO MEANS INFERS THAT I BELIEVE IN GOD =========Shaun ==========

PT-6 UNSUITABLE for Skydiving!?!?! WHAT!?!?
Unstable replied to Unstable's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Huh - That's a dumb accusation. I'm not fishing for rotten fish or some muck raked around by any of the PT-6 crashes or their associated losses. Does anybody know what P&W's official position is? Did they say anything to the Operators at the PIA meeting? =========Shaun ========== -
I started fingering through that list and thought....Damn, How many Engineers did it take to make that list?!? =========Shaun ==========

PT-6 UNSUITABLE for Skydiving!?!?! WHAT!?!?
Unstable replied to Unstable's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Okay - I heard a 'rumor' and I was hoping some aircraft savy DZ.com'ers could help me out here. I heard that Pratt & Whittney was at the PIA Symposium, and they were pretty negative about their PT-6 Engine being used so frequently for skydiving operations....Kind of a "Well, you SHOULDN'T use our Engine for your operations, but if you are going to do it anyways, then THIS is how to do it safely." Attitude. Is this true!?! I assume that if this is true, they are saying it for Liability... =========Shaun ========== -
skydiving for a living?? surely a dream!
Unstable replied to buba07's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Calm down, killer, I didn't mean anything of those sorts, nor was I attacking you or saying that you shouldn't be a full-time jumper -
Happy birthday babe!
