How did they do that? - July issue of Parachutist

Ok, somebody needs to tell this newbie how the hell this occurred. Its like chicken and the egg - did the canopy flyer open up and catch the freefaller? ...or did the the guy on the shoulders open with the guy under canopy? -
congrats too!!!

congrats to you too!!! thanks!

I've been on here a while, but I just made my first unsupervised solo yesterday. I have a few more jumps to learn some other skills to get my license, as well as packing, but the fact that my JMs just were like "go get 'em" and got some handshakes on the ground (and in the plane) made all the tough ones worth it. I was so eager to get the hell out of the plane (not apprehensive as usual) and amazed at all the (relative) long time I had up there in ff! - no more drills!

i think a wind tunnel would be awesome... i am 8 jumps into a 15 jump AFF course at SkydivePA, 50 miles north of Pitt. i have literally 4 mins of freefall time, and i think its crazy that you can get that in a wind tunnel in a DAY! ...BUT you dont get the cool JM's i have at SDPA, and the view...best of luck/ blues!!! -
exactly... spend the dough on aff... i did a tandem then got myself immediately and properly into debt by starting aff!
-
wow, that is incredible... i am just happy i got out of a pain in the ass line twist. i think our dz is awesome on safety, and i feel comfortable in being able to handle an emergency, albeit i am untested. thanks for sharing this. it is very helpful. blues! C

how did you recover from this? it seems to scare me the most of all the potential mals.

this was me too - i knocked off 2 ok turns, saw i was at 8000, and zoned OUT. my JM said i didnt seem to be doing anything, but i swear i was trying my damndest to turn - for a while. i was alt aware, and had no trouble with recognising our hard-deck or pull time, but i just flailed all over trying to turn after i lost my wits...
-
our aff is designed around 15 jumps, so my numbers might be off, but i love the progression. i had my toughest jump on the release dive (4) when the JMs let me go. i have a BEAUTIFUL (unwanted) left turn! and what is this "beach ball" i seemingly have to balance on now? BUT my breakthrough was just this weekend on jump 7 when i was dropping stable, doing my 360s like a top, and FALLING THROUGH rather than riding on or fighting the wind - something my JM's told me would eventually happen. Heck I was so relaxed to on pull time, i actually remembered haha and soaked in the final few moments of freefall before deployment. not only that, i nailed the landing, flared on time, and needed 2 steps. i usually flare like i am landing on a house, 15 feet up - holy plf batman!

Shoulder seperations in freefall without impact.
Fireflyer replied to GigaBuist's topic in Safety and Training
just as a note, you seem to be speaking of dislocation, not separation. a dislocation occurs when the ball is out of the socket of the shoulder joint, and a separation is a partial or complete separation of the shoulder blade and the acromial process of the clavicle. i have a few separations, and they limit my mobility a bit in an arch in my left shoulder. dont know about the dislocations, but i would think that would be a bigger pain in the ass of an injury! -
congrats!

does anyone NOT get nervous when they jump?
Fireflyer replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i've seen pics of this. nasty. we talk about this a lot. i knocked my reserve handle free on AFF2 and my reserve JM couldnt get it refastened-it was blowing in the breeze. he almost pulled it, in case i had a main mal (i do have a rsl and aad) good one our door on our beech 99 is a roll up, like some i have seen on otters thanks for all the info! -

thats what i figured... ignorance is bliss in a way... BUT i read everything i can especially about canopy/collision/landing incidents and mals and what not... i'd be interested in you expanding on doorways especially and anything else you might share with an AFF-er (ha that was funny there...) -

i am in the same situation now, or contemplating it. i am in aff now and in school, and aff seems to be winning (i am paying for school myself). i am successfully employed tho too, making more than most grads, so thats what killss me... -

i seem to be ONLY nervous (but like SUPER nervous) in the door. not under canopy. thats where i feel best. i have 6 jumps - am i nuts? -
wow i was hoping this guy was from another country, then i might be more understanding of the "language". everything is, uh, bigger, in texas...!
