  1. check out the first pic for the new West Virginia quarter. cast a vote in Charleston's paper, and/or email the gov: governor@wvgov.org. i swear it looks like me
  2. edit - erased duplicate info.
  3. 2 men identified thus far: 49 yr man from Johnstown PA, and the 61 yr old DZO Charles Bryant of the skydive club/team "Skydive Bouquet" (Bouquet is a town name).
  4. The initial report and facts go in incidents, discussion and speculation while facts are few and in their infancy go here. edit: so i was told by the moderator regarding the incident in Chicago
  5. I just saw it on a news commercial here and I just stopped everything. I live 30 minutes from there; its just SE of Pittsburgh. I am doing AFF now and have a half dozen jumps at another great DZ. My condolences to their friends and family. edit: I am just watching the local news here in Pitt now and it is reported from eyewitness accounts the plane may have had engine trouble. Shortly after takeoff, the plane banked a few times, then came around to land. It crash landed just short of the runway. The pictures were just a mess. 4 people died including the pilot and the plane's (and DZ's?) owner Charles Bryant. One jumper was lifeflighted from the scene.
  6. you could have cut and pasted all of em in the time you did all that

  8. tank you, tank you berry much!
  9. WARNING! Be sure you lock your doors and windows at home. A man was found murdered in his home over the weekend. Detectives at the scene found the man face down in his bathtub. The tub had been filled with milk and corn flakes, and a banana was sticking out his ass. Police suspect a cereal killer.
  10. I'm just a baby: 6 jumps 0.90 WL!!!
  11. Hey all, today I did my AFF release dive in which both my instructors released. All of my jumps thusfar have been applauded - except this one. I seemed to raise (or pull back) my right shoulder when I do my practice pulls, and start turning left-hard. My JMs said I am bending sideways too to to the right to get at my hackey. I feel myself rolling over a bit on deployment to the left but just "pull through it", commit, and throw the pilot chute. All good then... SO, I get down, and I am reluctantly passed to "one JM" for the next jump, which I planned for another day. I slap down some more $, not satisfied, and get back in the plane. This would count as the next level if I can maintain a solid straight heading. Well, turns out I just need to relax and let the air blow by me instead of trying to balance on a beach ball, or ride ON the air, and I was straight! I looked back to see my (now only) JM off to my main side back about 5-8 feet (wow that seemed far!). I felt awesome going down, but turns out on review I am "sliding" sideways to the left (no yaw). My JM was happy I cured the rotation, was more stable on the practice pulls, and saw no problem with the slight slide to the side. My JM I had today is just the best I could ask for, and we reviewed a lot of things, but I am just curious if there are any other JMs or students out there who have seen/experienced the same, and anything you might share from them. I am excited to learn about anything that could help me progress! I DO tend to get too darn uptight and not relax, thats why I think the second jump was so much better... any relaxation tips for the ride up? (Kudos btw to Mike my JM. I had a such a great day.)
  12. this IS just incredible. i just saved it to my palm to keep me motivated to jump on the road during work...
  13. did anyone notice how many views this got so quick?
  14. yeah, i figured as much, but i thought the moderators would allow positive posting, and delete the crap. i am aware of any potential controversy, and i agree, there is no place for that here. but not allowing tributes to a fallen comrade is garbage in my opinion. whether it offends people or not, i say the moderator delete what they see offending or controversal and allow the positive sentiment
  15. There is all kinds of discussion on the web - why blocked here? (forgive the question if the answer is generally known - I'm still a newbie, just concerned...)
  16. i'd LOVE to make some crazy ass shoes for the DZ, but not for 90 bucks... i made some that are little more wearable day to day if i was (might) buy...
  17. we have a 182 and a beech 99 at our DZ. there is also a king air there that i am told is the actual plane from point break (but to that i cannot confirm). i started AFF jumping out the rear left door from the beech 99, holding 18 jumpers. my reserve side is outside on a step, i am stading in the door, and my main jm is behind me. i jump, eyes to my right looking toward the left wing/left engine. i have to twist clockwise and get my right arm up and get my chest into the relative wind on exit. my first AFF jump exit was descibed literally as stellar, but i was not comfortable with the prop blast off the wing and getting tossed off to an angle. one other jump, i lost my main jm on exit, and the weight of my reserve jm out the door put us twisting up and to the left, ending almost vertical. mind you, i only have breif recollection of this as i was focusing on retaining the integrity of my underwear. turns out i recovered nicely and all was swell. and hey, back came my main jm. BUT, what a TREAT when i tried the 182 last week. holy easy batman. i was apprehensive stepping out onto the wing, but the slow airspeed and the feeling of being out of the plane for a moment was like playing superman (i'm wearing a cape under my suit next time). i just let go, and i was in arch-ville. loved it. i came into the pack are later like a 5 year old screaming that was SO COOL! everyone got a chuckle from that, not hearing too many people loving the 182... edit - clickied the link
  18. wow, good topic, as i was "talking" about this tonight with my gf. i travel a lot and she has a younger child, so weekends and usually one weeknight are all we have had for the past 2 years. nonetheless, i am pretty active, teaching snowboarding (luckily at a mt near her house) on weekends in the winter, riding/racing mt bikes in the summers, and now, having started AFF, have a lot going on. i only take a day to myself to hit the DZ, but I actually have only been getting a jump in every 2 weeks. i am pretty unyielding though in that i 'take' a day every weekend to ride or jump, to keep my sanity, and see her on friday, and saturday night through sunday. she really is busy as a nursing student and busy with her child, so joining me is not an option... suffice to say, with regard to AFF, i am choosing the first option you listed
