  1. why would one even put that option in the poll?
  2. i had the same problem - i think it was the poo in my shorts venting upward
  3. thank you all for your advice. i am like 3 jumps away now as i did 2 more coached dives tonight. my questions now are these, especially for those without a license: 1) how do you pack without an "A"? are you simply 'checked-out' at the DZ and they know you are capable? 2) how can one without a license jump at another DZ? i have 20 jumps, finished AFF, but would like to jump at another DZ in the near future. 3) can you (formation) jump with other people without a license? my DZ is pretty much against it, unless they have at least a coach rating. Thanks!!!!
  4. yeah, i asked my dz owner when i was going through aff if tipping is customary, and it was frowned upon. the owners stated, in a very cool sense, that they pay them well, and you (i) am paying a lot of money, so its not expected. BUT the beer rule is fully enforced haha. Buy some when you finish AFF for the dz/your instructors.
  5. hey i am glad to hear your responses - both from those of you taking their good ol time like me, and over acheivers like sunnydee who seemingly actually moved in to her jump plane (and just keeps getting out!). thanks all. i plan to report good news in a month, and i am having fun nonetheless. every jump is the best!
  6. Hey all, I started jumping exactly 4 months ago tomorrow, and I still haven't completed my A license. Who else here can give me a "me too" story? I am getting a little discouraged/anxious as the summer is ending and I want to get it finished. Increases in work and school demands (paying tuition for fall) slowed my progress. I have 18 jumps, completed AFF, and admittedly spend some money on fun jumps which are cheaper and more relaxing then the remaining 4 coached dives and the check-out dive I need to do to get my A at my DZ. I still have to learn to pack too. Ugh. I am shooting for the end of September before regs change...wish me luck!
  7. i am a newbie too, but that seems like a really small chute for 20 jumps. anyway, my 2 cents as a beginner: i am 145 lbs and started on a 190. i have almost completed my A card (18 jumps). i jumped a 230 last week and had fun with it (my rental was being used). heck i am in for the freefall! the slow flying chute was a nice switch, and the handling to my newbie self wasn't too different, if slower. the flare sucked for me, but the DZO prepped me for that. my JMs told me they will move me to a 170 soon (on their gear or now if i buy) and I just trust them to make the call for me. heck i trusted them for AFF right? i have no reason to stop listening now!
  8. oooouuch. hope you are felling better, and are dropping fast soon! i've broken tons of bones, and those with plates (leg and clavicle) took me 8 weeks to move em with any happiness... no idea on the ankle tho...
  9. I hear you on the school thing. That kept me from finishing AFF for like 3 months. Talk about low numbers; I'll be lucky to do 30 this year. And how is SD Cross Keys? I am from Philly/S NJ and grew up like 20 mins from there. Hope to jump it when I get in to see fam
  10. Everyone is nervous, even experienced jumpers. You are a fool if you DO NOT respect the gravity of the situation (no pun intended) and are not a wee bit scared. I did a tandem a year ago, and it was simply something I "wanted to do". That alone got me in the plane. I had no idea what to expect, but i CAN tell you what happened was far "less scary" and so much more exciting than I ever dreamed. Sure, you might be weary, but don't scare yourself too much - its so much better than you can imagine at this point, and you will be glad you did it. I am working on my license to jump now, and am have recently got out of AFF training and jump solo on my own. I never planned to jump after my first tandem, but it seems nothing else on the planet compares. edited for speeling! ;-)
  11. i am not too far from there. awesome eh? welcome!
  12. hola! and welcome to the forums!
  13. welcome! love the drop out club idea. i should start one having taken off this coming semester to save for my rig!
  14. i just wanted to throw a thread in that i am way past aff. thanks all for the advice. i have a whole NEW set of problems to correct now haha. not kicking or crashing into my coaches on practicing docks and formations would be nice!!
  15. I am just off AFF and doing coaches, and they are handled by the DZ manifest until you get your A - usually just 4-5 jumps after AFF. I pay 89 ea. - 20 for my slot, 20 for the USPA coach, 25 for my rental rig and the rest for the coach and dz maybe (?). The coaches are super cool, and I would offer to scratch their back after I get my A, but I am sure many would not take it.
  16. Thanks all, but I am looking for something more constructive. As an instructor in another sport, I appreciate hands on instruction, but I do value those who research and become familiar prior to my instruction. I PLAN to get instructed properly by a rigger and or take a class, but there is little oppurtunity to do so at my DZ for the next few busy weeks. I wanted to see all that I could before I am taught properly, that is all!
  17. i didnt see it for sale on the web. i'll ring them tho
  18. Hey all. I am looking for some packing videos to help out my learning process coming off AFF such that I can get my license. It is so busy at our DZ its difficult to corner a JM for a while, so in the meantime, I want to learn as much as possible on my own until we have the time to complete my packing certification. I am required to learn to flat pack first, so thats my priority now. Any video/book recos out there? I cannot find anything on the web to buy. I have heard of "Pack like a Pro" but cant find it. Suggestions?
  19. you KNOW i am no pro bud, but we'll get it thursday! sundevil's rec (dont give up and roll) and zonerat's rec (watch the plane) are what work for me!
  20. welcome!, i too have drained my account, and recently graduated aff. great pic too!!!!
  21. sell the kidney, unless you have 2 cars...
