  1. oh i would image that to be the case. i had so many weekends i had no scratch and i would just go hang out, drink (bring) some beer. read the aff manuals. basically, you CAN look like you are doing something - see what they have to read, etc. watch people pack. watch landings. etc. we have more spectators than jumpers most weekends - must be the sign by our airport that says "spectators welcome." there are levels of saving too....you dont have to on one hand save some money, take a jump, then wait a month to do another OR save ALL the loot, then do them all : I know people that like did a few in the spring, some mid summer, the rest later (some are going into next spring). they did a few initially to "get in on the in-crowd, then sort of saved/jumped in blocks. that might be a compromise to consider.
  2. i race mt bikes and am a snowboarding instructor whenever the skies are grey... as far as a mt biking forum, its REAL hard to beat http://www.ridemonkey.com. (not that i dont think you cant beat it sangrio!)
  3. ...oh, and welcome to the forums!!! blues!
  4. I second Angela's comments EXACTLY
  5. welcome to the forums, but why are you going to stop jumping at 70?
  6. i did have to repeat a coach dive to get my A license as i was waiting too long between jumps. it can happen if you wait too long.
  7. metal slug is right. i did aff this summer and it took me 4-5 months paying as i went, saving the money for each single jump, sometimes waiting 3 weeks between them. i was always so nervous on the first time up and always noticed the second jump of the day (if I had the $) was SO much smoother. if you got the bug as bad as me, surely hang at the DZ, but dont jump, just learn, talk to people, etc. tell em you are saving for AFF. that will keep you motivated to save. if i did it over i would surely have saved all the money and finished it in a week or two instead. welcome to the forums, best of luck!
  8. LOL! PDS is soooo not shy. I have not seen him in all his glory (snicker), but what I have seen of him up close is nice. Nice face.
  9. glad you had a good time... turns out a few guys from our DZ went despite our recent loss. i hope to hear great stories from them too. glad you had a great time alana!
  10. you#ve got pics of that??? not the internal ones, but i guarentee you will see them in medical journals long after i am gone. the caption will read: "...unbelievable this man could survive so long with such damage to these key organs..." haha . i have pictures of other "organs" but they are really not so "spectacular" either
  11. whats the word chelle? welcome to the club!!!!
  12. as a recent a-license qualifier, i say save the loot, and spend 3-4 days down there and do it all at once. i spread it out over over 4 months due to $ and if i could do it again i would WAIT 4 months and do it all in a week. just my 0.02
  13. I was and am completely stunned by hearing about this tonight. Jason was one of my AFF instructors this summer, my first year in the sport. He was simply a great instructor and skydiver and very skilled. I enjoyed jumping with him and I am grateful for the knowledge and fun he imparted into every jump. He was always willing to help this floundering newbie. I did not have the privaledge to know him very long, but I will miss him just the same.
  14. watch the sticky or tacky football gloves out there. i know the tacky football gloves stick too nice to nylon RE: jumpsuits. i'd hate to be going for my reserve and not get my thumb under it as its snagging my suit. i like "wet weather golf gloves" for the moment. leather, and a treated leather palm for grip in wet weather (not that thats needed...) which provides just the sweetest grip and tight fit. not very warm mind you, but i am big fan of finger mobility at the expense of some warmth. i am down with the poly-pro undies too, and the balaclava. its going to be 33 at 9am at my DZ in this morning!
