The one thing I'd do would be to make sure that you are part of the family
Excellent advice!!! I would add try to sit down with your parents and have a serious discussion about it (maybe ask them when would be a good time to discuss it so theyre not distracted, etc?). If that doesn't work just wait a few years, parents usually slacken way up around 19-20. Good luck bro the sky will be waiting for you!

billvon has a pretty good review of a Pilot. I think he might of been loading it more than you would be though (just guessing here, he played around on, I think, a 135). Sounds like a cool parachute! --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

let's see, heres a few sports off the top of my head that I've been involved with that people are just as passionate about as skydiving: fishing, hunting, horseback riding (I didnt ride them, I just cleaned up their shit), mountain biking, and rock climbing. Like Skydiving, these sports usually the people involved would love to gather and discuss their sport, from equipment to any emotional aspect involved with it... Oh also, I have never done a BASE jump, but from what I gather the community is even more closely knit than the skydiving community. doh- I just read your post more carefully and you were talking about ONLINE communities. Yeah, I'd have to narrow my opinion down to just BASE jumping. Pretty good online community, much like skydiving. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

canopy types and suitable wingloadings
andy2 replied to metalslug's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I loaded my student canopy at ~.6:1. It was mighty sluggish, penetration sucked, but the canopy itself never showed any signs of collapsing, etc like the original post was inquiring about. It was great to learn landing on where I hardly even needed to flare to get a standup landing -
you should post this in the talkback forum too, I'm sure many skydivers would like to vote for the BASE quarter as well...maybe you have already I didnt check. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

factory divers are cool, you can pick them up for a really reasonable price used. I like mine, but I think I'll especially like mine come winter (or maybe not if I get too much frosty effect!! ) --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

ask them to send the merchandise so your rigger can inspect it before you send the money. It helps to deal with shady sellers. Of course what if they think youre a shady buyer? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
Read the post again, It is not my story, I am just passing it along. Sparky
ah, right. I just saw the name Rick Horn and for some reason thought he posted here occassionally. Regardless, thanks for passing the story along, its a good safety reminder. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

you're right. I just wanted to give a perspective that not all low time jumpers feel that they can't jump if they dont have an AAD. But yeah, listen to the experienced folks at your DZ, not anybody on dropzone.com. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

how far above cypres firing range were you when your RSL whipped out your reserve? I.E. if you had had your cypres and no RSL then how much more time would you of been in freefall from your cutaway to cypres fire? Thanks for sharing the story, man. I'm glad you survived

I would advise jumping it without it while its gone, but I jump my rig all the time without the help of an AAD. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
Larry - read back through the thread - they're pirating me now! I think that makes me famous!
LOL sid, I didnt think you'd mind!
what the hell is a "Rated" DZ?
Well, ron, if you had monthly, quarterly, random whatever inspections I guess DZs would be rated. Maybe it would be a pass/fail, but it would still be a rating. I was working off of Derek's initial proposal of random inspections, which I think is a very very good one. --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
The GM programs fees don't cover the costs of the dz listings in Parachutist
Why can't membership fees help pay for this? When I was first starting to look for a DZ I really appreciated finding these random lists of USPA related DZs in parachutist, online, etc. As a member now I would be happy if a couple bucks of my membership fee went toward helping advertise USPA rated DZs. Why shouldnt my dollars help a beginner find a safe, rated DZ? As I used to say to my brothers when we were younger, "I agree with everything except the way you smell".

or you can dive without goggles, it stings when youre putting your head out to spot, but once youre out its ok. Note this is just me, maybe others eyes are more sensitive...? --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...

Can someone please explain the differences between two and one pin rigs to me? Why do some manufacturers offer both two and one pin rigs? Is one more ideal for WS flying and the other more ideal for regular jumping? Note I am not thinking of buying a pin rig as a first rig (or ever at this point) but am merely curious and could not find the answer searching. Thanks!

http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=586442;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Basically HD with a 15 degree slant from what I can tell. Note I've never been on this type of dive because I'd probably take out the entire group with my "skills". --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm...
