My Lee Story: Many of you didn't know there was a time when Lee jumped at another dz (gasp), he was developing all the great things that made him Lee. A lot of us missed him when he was gone. Soooo we have about a 11 way going out of the King Air, believe it or not ol fat ass is sitting in the back to film a tandem. As the 11 way heads out there was a slight pause by the 11th person (okay it was maybe more than slight....but if your going to be last you might as well make it a really long dive) Lee see's what he thinks to be the last one out and sticks his head out to video the dive - while trying out his brand new video sight. He was real proud of it, and more than a little pissed as I forced myself out the door, catching the sight on my suit and cleanly ripping it right off. Who would have thought these things cost so much??? Lee lands and starts cussing and screaming at me, I look right at the big fucker and say with my best "I'm not scared of you but I am voice" FUCK YOU DUMB ASS. Lee looks at me, smiles and says in a calm voice "that was dumb wasn't it?" We had several beers that night....... The last time I saw him was at Bob's thing in Deland. This might upset a few people BUT.......... Many dz fail because of the "customers" become "friends". Customers get to treat the dzo worse than a friend. Like it or not it is a double adge. The dzo needs his "friends" to bump off a load so that he can put a tandum on, the "friends" expect to be on the load because hell we are "friends". The bottom line is that the dz is a business that is very very social. I do not envy dzo's that have to run that balancing act. They don't have to be in order, but name 10 things that make a dz great. 1. Turbine aircraft 2. A staff that really thinks the jumpers are customers 3. A good end of the day atmosphere 4. Reasonable prices (not cheapest value added) 5. Beer sales 6. RW, FF, CRW ect all disciplines 7. Large landing area, lot's of outs 8. Not on a public airport 9. Local Hotels 10. The following is a re-post of an idea that I mention awhile back but it didn't get much traction....trying again. With Gates/Buffet money say 1 billion to the group that solves X that relates to renewable energy and a public campain, could we move this forward? I believe so. Bill's right short of REAL pain we seem to lack the drive to do much. We are fighting wars, people are dying and to a large degree it's for cheap oil. I can't understand why (other than as long as oil remains "cheap" we have zero will power) we aren't busting our ass to end this. We are never going to be free of influence of other countries as long as we HAVE to have there oil. If as the "dream solution" we created a source that drove the price of oil into the dirt - or sand as the case may be - there would be the problems that would cause in the middle east. Oil at $15.00 a barrel is going to piss a lot of people off........ Call me silly but I still believe that we can solve this problem and still tow our boats and jump out of airplanes. Bill, Was wondering if you had listen to Huckabee talking on the changes we need to make to get off oil. He really seems to have the thought that it would take 10 yrs (or less) to be in a postion to tell the oil producers "we need your oil as much as we need you sand". He also pointed out that if we start getting serious about alternate fuels that in itself would push down oil prices. But THEN we have to stick to the plan........and we have no will to do that. I drive +1 hr so I guess I'm not that far. I have jumped here for over 10 years. The dzo has always gone out of her way to help me in any way possible. Many jumpers have been jumping here longer than me. I have traveled to EVERY major dz in Fla and while you can easily find more planes, you just can't beat the atmosphere here. We have world class HP pilots who will jump with you, rw and ff. If you aren't a total nerd you'll find plenty of people to jump with you. For me the perfect balance between big enough to have what I want but small enough to be personnel
