I have not consumed my favorite beverage since Ash Wednesday. Gave tequila up for Lent. I even went to a liquor store and passed by the tequila section and didn't get any. I think I'm having withdrawals now though, and I have my collection here to tempt me. Do you all think I will make it to Easter?

If you think Halliburton received any sole source contracts illicitly then by all means spend the massive $0.37...well, you'd have to have paper and an envelope too, so let's say $1.00...it requires to protest the contract. Well, you shall wait no longer. Bush - not a dipshit - declared the war over because active resistance by Iraqi military units had ceased to exist. Insurgents and terrorists are taking lives now. The costs of rebuilding the infrastructure, maintaining security/stabilization forces in theater, and getting the new gov't up and running are being increased exponentially by these terrorist attacks. Hence the increase in costs DHS is a completely new department for all intents and purposes. Where did you think money to fund it would come from - the Easter Bunny? And DoD is sucking up a ton of $$ as well - the Army in particular. Ask any program manager about $$ within DoD and you'll find out what a tight budget everyone is on these days. Programs will be cut and as the SS fiasco deepens as the baby boomers exit the work force and become eligible for SS more and more programs will be cut. Get used to it.

Employing people is not the purpose of any government program, though some people are employed as a side effect. Deal with it. What would you do in GWB's place, spend ad infinitum? Not going to happen. Continue to fund programs that do not work? Not going to happen..er..shouldn't happen, but probably will anyway. The money isn't there to spend frivolously because SS will absorb more and more of it over the next few decades, as will other social programs. If you were familiar with goverment contracting - especially DoD - the LEAN and RTOC philosophies would be quite familiar to you and you'd realize that spend, spend, spend isn't the answer now and isn't going to be. Possibly. With the positions she's held she's shown the ability to run a staff, large organization, and large budgets. Her education and foreign policy credentials are beyond question. She would need a strong domestically inclined VP candidate and cabinet I believe, should she decide to run. Good tax guy. Budgetary issues, medicare, and SS will dominate the debate over the next ten years I believe - on the domestic front at any rate. Rice/Watts would be an incredible ticket. Rice/Gingrich - that would stir the leftist hate-pot. Or perhaps McCain/Rice.
