    well.. I'm deaf....I wouldn't want a implant. I like being deaf, I hear ok with my hearing aids.. but some times the "noise" drives me F$%^ing nuts. I prefer peace and quite to work, etc. I was born deaf so.. I do see point of other parents trying to use technology to improve lifes. sooner you start hearig words etc when your young better your speech / language skills will be. I have a private pilots rating [license] and an implant MAY allow me to hear well enough to fly in controlled airspace... but I won't get a implant even though my insurance would cover 100% of it. Why? "noise" I can't see how you hearing people can stand that "NOISE!" I like the way I am... thank you...

    Nothing to do with safty locks. Those doors open inwards, and at altitude there is about 10 tons of air pressure inside the airplnae holding it in place, the ultimate safety lock.

    no the closed captions done on taped TV shows and live news / live shows are done by stenographers with steno machines like those by court reporters, not "cheap" ( $$)

    MX757, I really wish that we had the time and resources to do this ourselves. It's not that we don't want to accommodate you, only that none of us here have the time/typing ability to transcribe an hour long show every week. As I told you in your PM, if there are people out there with the ability to transcribe the show's we would be more than happy to host those files on our site. -Dave buy the book, "the parachute and it's pilot" I have the book. yes there is software out there that changes voice into text but you have to train it to recoized your voice and it won't get lot of terms we use in skydiving correct either. yes Dave you did tellme that I was just posting short condensed reply, maybe someone will want to type it up while listening too it?? then it can be archived too for future searches?? miike

    with aircraft pressuized, the door WON'T open due to safety locks. aircraft would have to be unpressuired to open the door.

    wish I could hear it.. I'm deaf.. sent PM asking skydive radio if they'd change them into word.doc format so us deafies could "read" it... but they said NO unless someone wanted to do it...

    I used them at the Deaf World record jumps recently in Lake Wales FL. Mads was kind enought to send ten Optima for us to try. 5 had Red LEDs and 5 had Sqaure LCD that you could see though. the LCD would flash a blueish color and it would change it flash patterns for different attlutudes. it could be set to three different warning alerts in incredments of 10 feet. I had my fist warning set to 5000 as our planned break off was 4,500 and 2nd warning at 3000 feet and final warning 2000 but as I said you can set them to any height you want. also under canopy they flash at 1000 feet and 500 feet. they are really Nice I loved mine. the LCD works better with a enclosed helment the LED works great with googles or frap hat. Hats off to Mads for sending us these to try out. Buy one you'll LIKE it.
