Does skydiving affect your view on mortality?
czechbase replied to weezil1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I always tell everyone that's why we have reserves and BASE, Just make sure it's a velcro rig! www.motavi.com -
How was your experience taking the rig as carry on

Travelled to Australia via Singapore and Malaysia. No problems from Malaysia and Singapore, but the Australia card as a tiny hassle. I showed them the Cypress card and they just x-rayed it. I told them not to open it and they were fine. www.motavi.com -
Howdy all, I am keen to purchase an SLR camera and came across a Canon EOS 66 that was selling for quite cheap. For now I'll stick with film... I checked out the EOS 66 and it takes about 1 fps, even on sport mode. A couple of questions: Anyone used it before? If so, how is it? It's got a 35mm-80mm lens on it as standard, I read here that everyone is using a 24-28mm lens. Should that be ok to use the 35-80mm lens? You can order a remote switch for it and I wonder if you can stick it in your mouth to press it? Anyone heard of a wireless remote?? I have an old Canon EOS 1000F and there are not ports to plug in a remote switch, but the guy at the shop told me that he can get a wireless switch. Would that work during freefall??? And finally, I just got a Kenko wideangle lens, it is really awesome but it sticks out a fair bit, would that be a problem? Thanks, you guys are the best!

Man, tell me about it! I went out and bought a new external harddisk (120gig!), got Adobe Premier and had to learn how to put everything together. Then I had to run all my footage into my harddisk through Adobe Premier, then cut and cut and cut clips to my liking, write an intro and ending and put the music in. And then wait somemore to export!! But I must say, the finished product is sure worth it! I just got a new 0.5x wide angle lens that is bad ass (and really cheap too with no black bits!!). Man, doing video stuff is a high time and money investment. But it sure is well worth it (especially when you can start charging money for it) www.motavi.com

Just a comment, if one has an AAD and let's just say hypothetically that the reserve pin broke, the cypress would still cut away the reserve cord so it wouldn't matter if the pin was there correct? Of course this depends if its a high/low speed malfunction or if it's too low for the AAD to fire? Any comments on that? www.motavi.com

Why not just download the film into an external harddisk? That's if you carry your computer equipment around. At least you have a backup if anything messes up your film. www.motavi.com

Understood. But what is the difference if they ship 1 opposed to a crate/box? Still explosives right? Just wondering... Matthew www.motavi.com -
Me too! I'd like one as well. How much? Any pictures? I have a SONY PC3 camera. Thanks. Matthew www.motavi.com

Basic Rigger's course in Melbourne,Australia
czechbase replied to czechbase's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi all, I'll be up in Melbourne in August this year (from the 20th until the 28th) and I am interested in taking a basic rigger's course. Anyone have any information on where I can take one, how much, duration, etc etc? Any help is mucho appreciated. Thanks. Matthew www.motavi.com -
I found this out the hard way. I bought an Nvertigo helmet from someone 2nd hand and it was medium. Now I ride motorbikes and I have always been very comfortable with a size medium. Even with a Protec helmet, medium is good for me. BUT, when I got that Nvertigo helmet medium, it was too darn small. I had to really strech it and it doesn't fit me well... if you are used to medium and are buying a Nvertigo, get a large. I am getting a bonehead and apparently one can buy inserts to make it smaller/bigger. Now that's good

Just make sure that you are purchasing stuff that is in good/resonable condition with regards to the price asked. I bought a used altimeter and it had a bent needle and is a little inaccurate which means that I pull a little early... Cypress? Depends on your budget, what condition, any water landings and when the batteries and service is due, otherwise it might be better getting one that has a few years left until all the maintainence is due. How can I get in touch with Action Air Parachutes? I would like to get some smoke as well? Trouble is with para-gear they want you to buy a case before they ship it overseas! Thanks! -
With all them tiny canopies and seeing everyone heading for the same target, I would think that it would be a good idea to leave your helmet on until you get pack to the packing area! I like my big canopy, I like coming down last Matthew www.motavi.com

This is a great sport. I have tried many other 'extreme' sports, but this one takes the cake. My family is pretty supportive of me and some friends think I am crazy, but I just tell 'em that that's why we have reserves

I find with sit flying that I am spinning a little. I think with freeflying you get to a stage where you can 'feel' and naturally adjust to get that position. My best guess is that one has to be aware to make the changes

Totally awesome! I do have a CRW canopy and after seeing all those pictures, I have got to try it!

Just found the problem...my read write speed on the external hard disk which is USB 2.0, and my laptop is not, is less than 1MB/sec!!! My internal drive read/write speed is more than 5MB/sec so no problem on that. Gotta get a pcmcia card that supports USB 2.0. That should do the trick right? www.motavi.com

Opps, yes, you are right it is IEEE 1394. The thing is I bought an external casing which can house a DVD drive or a hard disk. I just checked and the external casing does not have a firewire port!!! Only a USB 2.0 port. My laptop is not USB2.0 compliant, so I think I will need to get a pcmcia card for USB2.0. I don't think I can't plug the camera into the hard disk as the external casing has no firewire ports.... www.motavi.com
