  1. I find a good long shit relaxes me just fine... not so much use on a plane but hey (unless your on our old turbolet which used to have a toilet built in)
  2. You got picture - I got video - with two views, one inside the two way and one watching from outside... clicky http://www.uwe.ac.uk/union/parachute/videos/videos01/washing_machine.mpg WYI thats tim in red (currently sleaping on my living room floor) and Nate-dog in grey.
  3. my hobo skydiver mate tim keeps crashing on my living room floor.... does that count?
  4. washing machine!!! - 69 Dude have him sit in the door facing out with his legs dangling in the wind. stand over him looking out and bend over to take leg gripps near his kneas. he holds onto your leg grips which should be by his ears. then just role out and hold for 10 secs You will spin tjhrough the air like drunken monkeys try to launch yourself out the door for a faster spin - soooooo much fun. I did it once and forgot my visor was up and kept getting the wind in my face every time I faced the earth... I was like
  5. "A LOT" to me is a bit of a disclaimer to make sure some student reading this does not think its safe to cut away at 100 - 200ft, cos as we all know, its NOT.
  6. if what I hear about the skyhook is right... if you chop a main at 2000ft and have the skyhook on your rig you will be under your reserve at about 1900ft. YOU WILL BE A LOT LOWER WITH A NORMALY DEPLOYED RESERVE THOUGH
  7. If this really is going to be a problem for you and the doctor says no, how about getting a rigger to create a drogue system for you - just like on a tandem. This will severely limit what you can do as a skydiver (ie no FF little RW) but you will be able to SKYDIVE
  8. Has anyone come across scratching on the negatives which shows up on the photos? The scratches run horizontally along the negative and is only on some shots but appear along the length of the film. Its occured on the last two films so its not the film itself. They're my g/f's photo's taken with a Cannon EOS camera on good film. She had a long argument with the developers last night and made em do the run again but Im not hopefull as the marks are on the negatives. She never seems to be able to get her photo's developed right the first time round and always has to argue for a second run (no matter where she goes) - which then comes out right! Are these marks caused by crappy developing or could her camera itself be to blame?? Its a shame cos I was doing some cool surf landings in the shots and we got some comedy shots of dumb squaddies under two canopies at 400ft
  9. I've done a few jumps on an Exe 215 Its basically a copy of the sabre from what I understand. It flew nicely and will give you lots of room to make mistakes, which is important as a newbie. You should like it.
  10. fairly simply to answer - they're gay
  11. exactly - the russian knock off version of concord.
  12. surely thats just concord? or is it a trick and its actually that odd russian copy known as koncordski
  13. From reading numerous threads on this subject I think the general consensus is... "shit"... ie "it happens". The opinion of a lot of very experianced jumpers, some of whom have technical knowledge through their work, appears to be that there is simply a low instance of slammer openings that just happen no matter how careful the packing is. I dont even pretend to understand why - I would have thought that there has to be a reason for the slammer, but then I am also aware of chaos theory, and... well, theres a lot of random things that can go on in a burble that can effect your canopy when its opening.
  14. thats right - what an awsome jump plane that would be - was in one in a museum HUGE, has two decks and a tail exit too so you could launch some cool formations.
  15. nope... right era... but no
  16. Ok so perhaps this will stump some of you... this would make an awsome jump plane if any were still flying. The were used by paratroopers, would take 2 light tanks or 70 paratroopers (inc 30 in the tail section!) Guesses...
  17. you can buy new - they custom build it to your measurements - that would obviously fit perfectly. Not really many people recomend though untill you have more jumps as you are likely to want to change kit when you get a little exp. Its something to consider though if you cant find any second hand. Second hand gear comes in all sizes too though. There may well be some out there just right for you. Check harness sizes. Javelins for example use a system with a letter (usually C but can be B or D) to reflect the width - most people are C. And a number to reflect the length of the container. I have a C19 cos I'm tall. A short person may want a C14 or something (guess). Other manufacturers use similar systems and nomenclature - research them on line - put some search terms into google or something or check out the manufacturors web sites - all have sizing charts. If you buying from someone get the Main Lift Webbing length - this is the webbing that runs down the side of your body and is the best indicator for well it will fit you. As for what the right MLW is for you - try on a rig with a known MLW length and figure out from that how much smaller you would want your ideal MLW to be.
  18. Looks a real nice plane, wheres the exit? Is it a tail gate exit cos I cant see a roler shutter door on the side. How many jumpers does it take to altitude?
  19. Do you have to have a squire to help you on with you don your helmet before entering the arena?
  20. Once you've put the first S fold in the canopy and are kneeling on the stack get the D bag on the ground in front of you and lay it out as you have it to put the canopy in it. now pull it gently under the stack so that you have the gromets showing on the other side of the stack and the lip section of the D bag entirely under the canopy. Now when you "step" backwards off the stack to make the second S fold you "step" back onto the two gromets so you are knealing on them. Now instead of trying to lift the stack/jam the stack into the D bag its already half into the bag, you just have to work the uppermost corner of the D bag round the top of the canopy stack. You can also push the stack into the D bag as much as you like without the D bag slipping away from you as you are knealing on the gromets. I find this works wonders for me and the best bit is I invented it so I feel great about it.
  21. just remembered anothe stupid student story. Was doing a hop and pop out of an islander. They had several static line students on the load and they were going out first (cos of their static lines). I watched the first guy exit. He goes out with a great body pos, canopy opens, no twists. His canopy is fine and I watch it fly as the plane banks and goes round for another pass. Then I see him cut away and go straight to the reserve (rsl). On the ground I talk to him about it to see what when wrong. Apparently he couldnt look up enough to see the canopy so cut away as he couldnt varify if it was big and square. He thought it was fine, it was flying nice and straight and level and his control checks worked fine... but he couldnt see his canopy so he thought better safe than sorry and cut away. I didnt say anything to him... figured his instructor would re-educate him when he got his de-brief, but I simply couldnt follow the logic of cutting away a canopy that appeared to be fine for one which may well have a problem with it.
  22. not sure if most dz's would be able to claim the same about their reserve ride record. the reserves in student rigs are probably the most jumped reserves in existance. students will often cut away from easily fixable problems, sometimes when there isnt even anything odd going on. Ive seen it myself several times and im not even a JM. Just check out the "stupid student" thread for examples.
  23. have insurance in place before you take ownership of the item - whether its a plane/car/house - its the same. if its an expensive item have a written contract and have the contract litterally specify a time (to the minute) when ownership passes from one person to the other. That way everyone KNOWs who owns what and when. 90% of contract law is about how to sort out the mess people get into when they dont make sure everyone knows whats happening.
