  1. just cant get the mix right there... Beaver = small and fast, Nomad = Big and Slow.
  2. Allowing anyone off the street to fly will be the only way to make a wind tunnel ecconomical in the UK - there simply arent enough skydivers here to run the thing 24/7
  3. Im hurryin... like I said, just trying to blag a newton meter from someone at uni so I can do it all scientific like....
  4. Its probably not just the distance but the traffic... you really dont want to have to circumvent london on a week day and I cant imagine weekends will be much better. The other thing is the petrol cost... Its about $6 a gallon here now. So it may not be far but it is expensive.
  5. and thats by no means an exclusive list
  6. a) Shit happens b) People do stuff above their ability c) Learning Freeflyers can skate a real long way at high speed d) Shit happens
  7. Didnt recommend it - look. I said its refered to as Deadcorn. I hear bad things but have never been there so wont comment. Go with first hand accounts - just like TattooedMoFo's.
  8. Headcorn is really the only one round that area. People refer to it as "Deadcorn" though... I have never been so I'll leave it to others to comment on that DZ There are a few nice ones just the other side of london... but then I guess it kinda depends where abouts he lives in kent how accessable they will be to him. I wouldnt want to have to circumnavigate london to get the my home DZ.
  9. NOW I agree with tonto - I found learning to pack great... I never worried about a line over or a similar mal because I knew I wouldnt have one cos I knew I'd done everything to avoid a line over.
  10. and Im an arse; my frind tim is a bum; all our friends agree Sam is a hobo... but then this is a neptune thread
  11. lol - if get them all means get all of the lines causing a line over then I guess that would have to be right. I guess what I mean/what my instructor ment was "if in doubt, go for the outer one first".
  12. You look at the lines and cut the one you think. I was told start with the inside and work out or I would quickly end up with a very small canopy
  13. having just bought one and read the manual about a thousand times (its what we do when we cant jump right?) I came to the conclusion that its just some gay feature to try and take away the need for a log book. I know that I simply wont be arsed to change the setting EVER and will just leave it on blank or something
  14. Let me get this straight... You're going down on a spinning reserve and you'd do nothing???? You have a hook knife in your hand and you think... "no, hang on a minute, I think I'll have a go at landing like this..." Since when was no chance is better than some chance? Why would you do nothing? Would you do nothing if you had a total on your main because you were afraid of pulling the reserve handles in the wrong order. Of course not. Why? because someone took you asside on the ground and make you do a reserve drill about a 1000 times. Its the same thing... you darent do anything with your hook knife cos you havent had full training or practiced drills with it. Go see someone at the DZ next time you jump and get some training before you find yourself in a situation where you have to use one.
  15. in the uk as a student you're not allowed a hook knife as you can pretty much guarantee that some dumb student somewhere will get it out and start cutting shit. Then you graduate... one dive your not allowed a hook knife, the next its mandatory. I've never seen anyone give any training on its use. I got some cos I asked for some... too many people dont know why they have to carry one.
  16. I was out catching tandems at hinton about a year ago and the guy who used to run the cafe smacked into the ground a few feet away from me and my buddy and slid by on his face at high speed right past our feet. He came to a stop in the centre of the circle where the DZO was stood. He only broke his wrist or something but was out cold for a while. Apparently he'd been practicing to break something for the last couple of weeks and had been repeatedly warned that his hp landings would get him hurt.
  17. I will shortly be posting a full review of 3 of the most common hook knives on the market. I am simply waiting on the use of a Newton metre so I can ensure the tests are a bit more scientific than "well that one worked well". The knives I have for review are the plastic "Zak" knife, the Benchmade 5, and the Aluminium Knife that Square 1 sell. I'll keep you posted.
  18. Ive found kurupee great for FF - but you really nead a RW suit if you want to do RW. Kurupee dont make RW suits. (I like the leg patch on the kurupee suit - its a pic of a bloke with a massive schlong in FF with his dick trailing behind him - generates conversation). GET an RW suit if you want to belly fly. Its the only way to fly it properly especially for learning.
  19. If you use twin pin teflon to close your container insted of the curved metal pin, the loop needs to be significantly looser (still safe because of the longer closing mechanism). Not a lot of people use twin pin teflon though.
  20. I was planning to go later this autum. Funny, the website doesnt say how long a session is.
  21. I love the japs and their attempts at translation...
  22. Kudos.... thats all I can say. I met a blind jumper when I was out in perris over easter, cant remember his name now. Nice guy though, cant imagine doing that, but it must be a unique feeling.
  23. nothing it attaches your main to your freebag not your reserve itself... the freebag simply comes off your reserve as normal on deployment.
  24. In case you guys haven't noticed, malin is fine... her doc has signed her off to jump.
  25. nah - the nose/engine is not big enough... looks like a YAK but in truth I have no idea
