  1. apparently they dont offer it cos of the way they design their hip rings. They are higher and a full circle as opposed to a ring and block design that many other rigs used. Apparently this makes it fit as though it did have chest rings. there are (suposedly) disadvantages to chest rings too though... they can allow the harness to shift round on you under a mal obscuring your handles. (just recounting an earlier thread).
  2. Did you forget Dolphin or did you just concluded that there was no point as they blatantly wouldn't win? (sorry dolphin lovers, you might love em... but "best" rig??) MY VOTE IS WINGS
  3. to be honest... no, it aint ever gonna work Best case scenario though: Step 1: Make a 2-way, face to face. Step 2: You cut away your main. Step 3: Your bud puts their hands through front and rear risers and holds tight., (you can help with high arm grips). Step 4: You deploy your main (and probably get kicked in the face as your mate is yanked upwards). Step 5: You deploy your reserve. Step 6: You pray for your buddy, cos good luck landing like that, (backwards under a probably uneaven unflareable wing) And your bud better be strong cos I wouldnt like to try and hold my own weight for a 5 min canopy ride.
  4. I dont know if this is just the way you've drawn it or if it really is the way it happens. New jumpers can often percieve something very differently to what actually is happening... its all about info overload. If you look at your two drawings the line of decent starts to change in angle a little lower on the one on the right when compaired to the one on the left. It looks like the if the ground was not there on the one on the right, the line would continue on and look like the one on the left. As I say, perhaps this is just how you've drawn it, but perhaps it really is an accurate representation of whats happening. If it were me... and my decent looked like the one on the right... i'd flare a little earlier, allowing the canopy to plane out. That is perhaps all it is, and its very common for students to do that, esp with radio commands. (delay between hearing and doing). If you are still on radio guided landings... still wait for your instructor, or better yet, talk to him about the landings. I say still wait for the instructor cos even if his landing biffs you in... you are not yet exp enough to judge the right flare hight, and your landing might not biff you in, it might femour you. Look at the two pics again, take the ground lower on the one on the right and it might just plane out to look like the one on the left. Also... student canopies fly and especially land like shit... i almost always biffed as a student in and I know now it was not just me, it had a lot to do with the canopy. (ok so neither of us could land for shit, but if either one could, the landings would have been a lot better).
  5. eat more pie or just pitch higher and enjoy the soft opening. The canopy I demoed at the weekend smacked the shit out of me... im envious. or do what rob said.
  6. the instructions for packing wings are clear that you can leave the D-bag grommet up when packing if you like. FIND OUT THE SIZE OF YOUR RESERVE!! I would never jump any piece of kit without knowing exactly what size of canopies I am jumping (and a hell of a lot else about it too for that matter.) You're a little unclear as to where the size prob is... it seems as though you are worried about the length of lines you have left over after making you D-bag stows. If this is the case and you find there is not enough line left over simply leave out the last stow on the D-bag. (Get another packer to confirm you can with your kit - dont just take my word for it.) So long as the mouth stows are made on the D-bag, the rest are just there to keep the lines tidy and dont change anything about how the canopy deploys.
  7. Yeah, remember bond does it in his last movie. He cuts away the square! (WTF) drogue shute from behind the ice sled, BASE's it then surfs giant ice blocks. We could do that, no sweat.
  8. I have just made a long, futile attempt to express my memory of a beautiful canopy flight along and through a jagged crack in cloud; following its unexpected twists and turns as if flying down an unknown canyon, grazing its edges with the wing above my head. I cannot express this image, although this failure is in itself a metaphor for what I experienced that day. For I have long searched to repeat that same experience; a similar break in the cloud through which I can fly my canopy and follow that unknown trail through some cottony canyon. I have found breaks in cloud, and flown them… none seem the same… I never stop looking. God I love this sport. [Safety first – never run cotton canyons with other canopies in the air]
  9. This is one of my main gripes with organised religion... it recrutes... Would a catholic find it offensive if a jew told them they were following a heathan way and as such would be condemned to eternal damnation? Why is it any less offensive if its an athiest being spoken to be a catholic? (read any of the religions into the above statemt - it is not intended to single any one religion out from the rest.)
  10. Not exactly the sort of thing thats going to promote good posture... nice and rigid yes and with good support, but people tend to slump down in chairs of this design for some reason...
  11. this is not a frivolous subject... do you have any idea how many man hours are lost to the nation through back pain?? a good chair is the root of a nations stability.
  12. We tried that at the weekend too - seems our chest straps were too tight as the hanger couldnt get his hands in them. Lesson learned. Good job the tracking dive we did first was so much fun.
  13. A couple of stats for you about religion on the UK: The church attendance figures in England, Scotland and Wales are around 5%. A full quater of Londoners state that they have "no religion". 55% of British public do not believe in a higher being I remember it being in the press a month ago or so, that less than 20% of the population considered themself to be a "practicing christian". Only 48% of people in the UK claim to belong to a religion at all. The above figures relate to all christian based religions, not just Catholicism. Catholics make up 14.4% of christians in the UK
  14. Re-read this quote from my first post. You would be amazed how often families of the deceased will try interpret a will the way that suits them. If you want a clause in your will to be binding upon your family members it had better be drafter very precisely. Any ambiguity can be seized upon to bend the will to your relatives will (excuse the pun).
  15. I have one that simply came from an ordinary high street shop. Says "PULL" and has a target below it. Not bad for a Wuffo design
  16. How many police investigations are there each year that result in a not guilty verdict? (taking aside arguments about how well the legal/jury system works) Do you think the police always get the right answer? Would you would be in favour of abolishing courts and bringing in Judge Dread? I hope these questions are rhetorical and that the answer is no. Police investigations don't always "prove" much. "Proven" really needs to be defined in this instance. If you are happy for the results of a police investigation to be the deciding factor in whether or not your family brings a law suit, that’s cool, just make sure the wording of your clause accurately reflects that wish.
  17. And if you insure your gear - all that info should go off to them too.
  18. Im sorry wingnut, but im gonna have to flood the market here.... 23 year old man cheap... up for grabs in the UK. No signs of wear and good condition for year, low maintainance, cam belt checked 6 months ago. Taxed and tested Feb 2004. Sensible offers; no tire kickers. mat
  19. Lot of strong religious views here. Don't want to get involved with an argument about catholic dogma here, (or any other religion) my only point to raise here is that the Catholic Church is trying to impose its religion on other people. If Catholics believe condoms are bad in their religion, so be it. Who am I to argue with what is right or wrong in their religion. Its not my religion – I have no say in what is right or wrong that is the sole preserve of the Catholic God. My only issue is that this is exactly what the Catholic Church is trying to do. It is trying to tell people of other religions what is right or wrong. How can the Catholic Church do this? What gives it the right to meddle in what another religion does? The FAA does not control what I do when I’m jumping in England – I am bound by CAA regulations. If you’re a Catholic, fine, believe your going to hell for using a Condom – that’s every Catholic’s religious prerogative. I’m not a Catholic, why should I be told I’m off to hell if I wear a condom? I’m damn sure the Pope would be pissed if an Iatolla came round his place and told him that the Qur'an tells us all that men should not wear gold jewellery so he’s off to Muslim Hell for eternity. Vive La Difference and leave each other alone – everyone be happy:http://www.wordsofwit.com/article1016.html
  20. Dornier G92 with uprated engines - 15 jumpers to altitude in under 10 mins!! Standard C206 and a Turbine Islander so the tandems and students don't hold up the experianced plane.
  21. The guy who invented the pocket calculator also invented the Sinclair C5. http://www.sinclairc5.com/ Just because the calculator was such a great idea didn't make the C5 a good design. Just moved to a Wings - again member of the same design team.
  22. perhap "many acknowledge" would have been better. This I take from reading many similar threads on here that discuss Dolphins... on those threads there are a lot of people, (including owners) who say that Dolphins are not quite as nicely made as others on the market. I don't know if really ought to use the term "quality" as I've not personally seen a modern Dolphin. I have seen older ones and they certainly do have crappy build quality and morover, are bad designs. As I said though I cannot comment on new ones. The description I should give I guess is that I have heard warnings from others with first hand exp. For example I hear the material used on them is thinner than most and would perhaps stand up less well to a biff in - there's an account on here I can't now find where one was ripped.
  23. Sabre 190 would be a great first canopy for your Re used container choices... quick answer is that if you can still buy it new (ie that modle is still in production) then it will probably be just fine for you(just make sure it'll fit you and your canopies). There are likes and dislikes about all current rigs... but most are minor or stylistic and come with a counter argument by someone else. If its not still in production then the answer is longer... some are just fine... some are better avoided. Search for comments on the model you have in mind. Dolphins... well they're cheep... very cheep... and you get what you pay for. Many people like them, but most acknowledge that their quality is lower than others on the market. Modern ones will probably (from what I hear) be just fine, but still suffer from low quality materials (again so I hear).

    r/c skydiving?

Screw models and servos - stick some motors on the thing and kick a shop dummy out the door with a righ on its back.... hmmm perhaps something for Arizona that one....
  25. Speaking as a lawyer, the biggest difficulty I see with the waiver you suggest is that in order to have a case of "proven malice or negligence" you will almost always have to have a trial... or at least some kind of formal admission (rare). Without that nothing is "proven". I know that sounds like semantics... but that’s a big part of my job. If this phrase is in your will you may want to think about re-wording it. Now you would probably hope that your family would be willing to follow the spirit of your will, not just the letter. More often than you would think however, families are happy to challenge a will applying the wording strictly if they think they can get some money (or perhaps right a perceived wrong). [Remember, I’m not questioning your decision to have a waiver - that’s your choice. Just trying to offer some helpful advice to any who might want such a waiver]
