Half of the one's they used were illegal at the time of their use. Tony Martin shotgun was unlicensed but would have been legal.
-
Argumentative no-it-all. (Its just like looking in the mirror).
-
Oh absolutly - the misusers should be punished - no argument there. But thats true of the wider debate... I'm looking for something that makes these different to any other firearm. The goverment here has taken away many of our target guns too, unless they didn't have a magazeen. These have magazeens so again they fall into the same catagory. Yep they are less lethal - thats really the only argument without entering into the wider gun debate. The problem is they are still lethal and have been the cause of people's death. I personally don't see enough of a difference between Brockock style weapons and their "real" firearm counterpart to justify distinguishing the two at law to the extent that they were. The only requirement for owning a Brockock gun was that you were 16 - thats it. You didn't even need to register it. I would have liked to see these held on a shot-gun license or firearms license a total ban is perhaps over the top - but there was a need for legislation on the subject.
-
Fair enough - I hadn't read that article, only the first one where it refers to the licensing of them. I've checked the act and you're right - they are being put into the same class as other semi-automatic pistols and revolvers. Is there a reason why you think these weapons should be excluded from the ban on firearms?

The exchange rate at the moment means importing from the UK will suck for anyone in the US. It also means that anyting with a $ tag is a great bargain for us. I still went with the FF2 beacuse I hear the build quality of the Rawa simply doesn't come close. I also had a German made fully enclosed helmet sent over for me to take a look at - again the build quality sucked. You simply cannot compare the finish and build of the 2K products. I've always been a fan of BH products and would never slate them, but they all have a "factory made" feel (admittedly not necessarily a bad thing) to them as opposed to the hand finished quality of a 2K. The design of the FF2 also puts things like the clam shell camera box on boneheads to shame - especially at the price they charge for it.

It always surprises me that Americans are so much more animated about whether or not the British are armed than the British are themselves. I’m afraid that it has a lot less to do with any concern you may have for our well-being and a lot more to do with a selfish wish to point out failures in gun control overseas in an attempt to prevent such measures happening in the US. Give it up - there are so few people in the UK that actually give a damn that you end up arguing with yourself and have 5 or 10 rampaging posts against the one or two people who says anything remotely contrary to your view. Seriously - go back and look at this thread and see if there is any serious debate, or it this is simply another example of you and your mates standing round and shouting about the topic to anyone who comes close enough to hear. You’re starting to sound like the guy with a sandwich board in the city centre shouting: “REPENT - you’re all going to hell” Now do you want to debate the issue that started this thread? The fact that the UK legislature wants to bring the controls on a type of weapon that currently falls into a lacuna in line with the rest of their firearms legislation. I'm not too interested in debating if there should be any legislation - that topic gets done to death on here, but feel free to address that specific topic with me. Do you think Brockock weapons should be freely available to any 16 year old? or do you think that there should have [I]some form of regulation? Have you ever used a Brockock type weapon? Or do you think this legislation is about those little plastic things that fire yellow balls? Remember, there is no ban being proposed - merely licensing of them.
-
Do American's get taught about the plague? I know in Britain its a very common subject and therefore the knowledge would be common enough within society to self perpetuate itself. If its not taught in the US or if its not very widely taught then I suppose its hardly surprising its not known.

You mean the Azimuth ? Its a nice looking helmet - basically the same as the BoneHead FTP but looks like theres a bit more space on top. It also has the 2 ring cutaway system for the back of the helmet. I don't know what comprable system BH has installed on the FTP as I havent seen one up close in a while. They just updated their website with it a short while ago: http://www.2kcomposites.com/html/Azimuth.html

It certainly has something to do with religion - If you're not religious how can you bless someone?
-
I remember katiebear saying in an earlier thread that she had heard that the chin cup had been re-designed. I forgot to ask when I was picking up our helmets but I can always do so next time I'm up that way. My chin cup's very comfortable for what its worth, if they have been re-designed, it'd be one of the new ones as its only just been made. The other thing to bear in mind is their cutaway system. I don't know of any others that use a ring circus and teflon cable just like on your risers to give the easiest possible cut away. As its an integral part of the chin cup if you want it you're gonna be using their chin cup.

I can't believe you people don't know this - its common knowledge over here! Maybe its cos you yanks never had the PLAGUE. We say bless you after someone sneezes because sneezing fits are a symptom of the final stages of Bubonic Plague. Thus if someone sneezed it became habit to bless them as they were likely to die. You know that children’s nursery rhyme - Ring-a-ring-a-roses? That’s about the plague. The ring of roses was a reference to the ring of spots and blisters around sufferers mouth and nose. The “pocket full of posy’s” is a reference to the pot-puree people used to carry around as it was a common belief that it was "mal-air" or bad air which caused the plague. Then the song finishes with "ahtishoo ahtishoo we all fall down" simulating the final sneezing fit and death. You learn something every day

Wings owners: where do you stow your excess brake line?
mr2mk1g replied to gus's topic in Gear and Rigging
Ah - now I know the mal you're talking about. That cannot happen the way I stow the breaks as there is absolutly no excess flapping round. The way I do it, the break line is held down in a very similar orientation to how it is on my old rig with a velcro keeper. After I loop the excess over the top horn (not pushing the line into the elastic keeper - just hooking it round the horn and pulling it to the side) I repeat the process with the bottom horn. This way I half the length of the excess by looping it over the top horn, then secure the folded line tight against the riser by looping it under the bottom horn. I hope thats description makes it a little clearer. -
I don't see dropping and rolling as the best thing for a flaming helmet. He's rightly dealing with the flames closest to his face (on the helmet) before those on his clothes which would require him to drop and roll. Probably the best course of action for the helmet is to take it off... I guess while doing that if you run forwards you fan the flames away from the face although that has to be a moot point. He could also be attempting to remove himself from the source of ignition or a danger area.

I keep on kicking those stones into the potholes

hehehe - I'll beat you there. This time next week I'll be somewhere over the mid atlantic

Cheers - thats the shot. Couldnt cut and paste it as I have no imaging software at work and the BMP windows wanted to save it as was far too big. A snip from the text with it reads:

Paul Applegate is a great rigger and also the Riggers Chairman on the BPA. He's based just outside Oxford which is not too far from london. I doubt you'd find any rigger actually based in London as there's no DZ's there. You can find him at Weston on the Green Airfield Oxford most weekends and his contact details are in the Mag. Or PM me and I'll give you his #.

Odd - you shouldn't have to be registered with them to see their articles... must be down to where you are in the world. Try this url for the same article: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,7374-1048128,00.html

There are arround 20 odd of us from UWE plus a few others from other places. I know of at least two 4-way teams and a CRW demo team that are gonna be over there too. Then Vicky was saying something about a Royal Engineers or Royal Artillery (I forget) expedition or something that are going to be at one of the DZ's.

How about this one from today's times. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/printFriendly/0,,1-6047-1048128,00.html

Thats right, this not based on the FF2 that they also make but is an altered FF1 which is their "base" model helmet. Its also true that this does not offer quite the protection from line strikes or from damage to the camera that the FF2 offers. I can hardly argue against you - I did buy FF2 afterall. The payoff is the FF1 with all four mods comes in arround £100 cheaper than the FF2. When you think about it, it's not that much effort to nock out a flat moulding that matches the curviture of the helmet and bolt it on. If you only wanted the side mount then it would come in even cheaper than that. The other advantage is that you can buy the FF1 and then a later retro-fit the side mount when you start jumping camera and after that retro-fit the top mount if you want to add stills. If you want ultimate protection, you cannot beat the FF2 but that protection comes at a price as you must expect. Whats posted here is a mid range camera helmet that's comprable in design to the majority of other helmets on the market. I don't think the two helmets occupy quite the same place in the market although both have the 2K excellent build quality.

Here are some pictures of my housemate's (Sam's) new camera helmet from 2K Composites. 2k had a stall at the BPA AGM back in Jan where we had the oportunity to see some of their helemts close up. Steve the designer had just come up with a side mount mod for his FF1 open face freefly helmet. Well, my housemate talked him into designing him a top mount too and the finished result is attached. Sam's excited to have the first ever finished model. Yes... he has a purple helmet. This is the FF1 with a top mount mod, side mount mod, Cam-Eye II installed (behind the right ear) and chin cup. He figures he'll probably upgrade to the cutaway chin cup at some point (has a 2 ring circus) when he's not just about to go on a three week trip to the US. Our attractive model is sporting a PC101 and Canon Eos 500. First two pics are at the 2K factory - Steve on the right, Rami on the left. Sam's the guy in red stood by our little cluster of helmets. The others are all self-explanatory.

why can't I vote on all of them?

Wings owners: where do you stow your excess brake line?
mr2mk1g replied to gus's topic in Gear and Rigging
Exactly, I hate it when people don't stow their line or stow it badly. The way I described is one of the "proper" ways to stow the excess. I can't see how doing it that way can cause a mal - all possible problems appear to be accounted for, but of course that does not mean it can't happen. If skymedic or anyone else knows of a way that the described method can cause a problem could they say how so I can amend the way I stow the line.
