Why aren't Riggers charging more for hard to pack reserves?
mjosparky replied to peek's topic in Gear and Rigging
As a rigger, she is held to the same standard on the main as she is on a reserve. She should charge the same for both. I do. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

The factory emailed me and stated that silicone would comply with the SB, so I figure that covers things. Thats great for you, how about the rest of the rigging world? How about the riggers that don't read dropzone.com. If they say the SB is mandatory, they need to change the wording or Paraffin is the only thing allowed. Check your brake setting when stowed. It sounds like it is opening with either too much or not enough brake. Sparky Trim chart: http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/linetrims/SP_150-230LT.pdf My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

And even then it doesn't always work out right. An uncle of mine flew a B17 during WWII, mostly from altitudes ranging from 22K to 30K feet. On his 25th mission he was shot down over Poland and he and his crew bailed out from 24K. By his account he passed out then awoke somewhere around 10K. He deployed his seat pack, landed safely, was captured, and spent the last 9 months of the war at Stalag Luft I on the Baltic coast. His co-pilot wasn't so lucky. Uncle Jack says his chute failed. I'm guessing he never woke in time to pull. Mind you, this wasn't an average (or even not so average) skydive. Bob When I do work at higher altitudes I wear this. Hooked to an O2 console on the way up and Twin 53's (bailout bottles) on the way down. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Hey Sparky, that would be hard to determine. Individual tolerance really. Most nasal cannulas are not tight fitting enough to prevent air from entering your body along with the 100% O2. New on the market, is a nasal cannula that is tight fitting and provides positive pressure on demand. But, I'm thinking it's not feasible for most DZ operators or necessary on jumps below 18K msl. Did that answer your question? Buck RTF: STS-114 Buck, It was a rhetorical question. At 25,000 you should be using a sealed mask and have done some pre-breathing. An NB-12 is a back rig. It will take you 6 to 8 hours to pack. The F-18 head box is considered a back rig and it will take you two days to pack. Because you charge the same for all rigs does not make other riggers who don't "unethical". Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Have you ever packed the head box of an F-18 seat? How about the seat pack out of a Drawken? Or an NB-12 with a spreader gun? Not all rigs are created equal, some are easy, some are hard and some should be taken off the market. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
There is not honor in dying, just death. And death is permanent. Some of the people here need a reality check. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

As I have said before, Pain is an excellent teacher. The greater the pain, the fewer repetitions are required. With some people the pain has to be theirs, they can’t learn from seeing some else in pain. That’s my read on it. They are lying to themselves or trying to impress someone. Anyone that "knows" they are going to die if they continue to jump and do continue are not rapped very tight and should quit. They are a hazard. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

It sounds like you have lost sight of the fact that it is supposed to be recreation, not a contest trying to prove how big your di*k is. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

QuoteOne day I was breathing 100% O2 for about 4 hours straight at 25,000 feet. Decided to see how long I could hold my breathe. (Now my normal sea level ambient air breathhold is about 1 min 30 sec.) That day, due to supersat, 3 minutes easy... There ya go... Quote Without 100% and using a nasal cannula how long do you think that would be? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Just a couple of questions. Will you be issuing a follow up SB with a wording change to include “Food Grade Silicon”. Something other than a posting on DZ.com. Also, did you use a scale to determine what the pull was on the different cutaway systems? If not how did you determine a "hard pull"? Thanks, Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

We learn these things in secret riggers school.

It can't be repaired. The manufacture recommends when this happens to replace the unit with a digital type altimeter. And the old unit should be sold to some dummy to help pay for the digital. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

What is ironic is if you have all the answers, why do come here and ask questions. Most of us are just dumb enough to think that when you ask a question you want an answer. "You keep thinking Butch, thats what you are good at" Sundance to Butch. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Your harness is designed for the load during deployment to be carried by your MLW. If your chest strap is too tight, this load is transferred to the chest strap which is not designed to take that kind of load. When you tighten your chest strap keep the MLW as close to straight as possible. If your harness fits any where near right, you are not going to fall out. See attachment. Your flare point is still the same distance from the guide ring in the risers. What is different is where your are, you will be 4 inches closer to the canopy. Full flight will be the same because the guide ring will still be 4 inches from the top of the riser. Shorter risers raise you up, they don’t lower the canopy. To flare you will have to move the toggle the same distance as before but you will start and finish at a point lower in relation to your body. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
