  1. I am not sure what your reference to Part 105.17 has to do with this discussion. But this "attempt" can be done without violating any FAA reg. The wing suit jumper has to leave the plane wearing an approved rig, over an area that will not present a danger to persons or property on the ground and not try to land on an airport. If the right airspace is picked all that would be needed is to file a NOTAM. The regs do not say he has to use the rig, he just has to exit with it. I bet you feel that all this rules and regulation shit is for everyone else, not Peter. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. I am big enought to admit when I am wrong. That being said, I find no fault with someone questioning an incredibly demanding, if not impropable event. I stand corrected, and am very impressed with the physical conditioning of Mr. Stokes.... not many people have that endurance. You are right, I watched the whole thing and I could not believe it. I think it was a mental game after the first 15 or so hours. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. 538 but only 537 counted the last one was out of time. Any less then 500 and you are a wossy. Sparky We are both wrong. It was 534 jumps. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. I witnessed it and it was moderated by FIA rated judges. On being Judy Celaya. Diablopilot from these boards was there also. At 10:00 PM it started raining and rained all night. We broke one porter causing a 25 minute down time or the total would have been higher. He is one tough some bitch. He ran for the plane as hard on the last jump as he did on the first jump. Do you have some friends to help you pull you foot out......................... Most Jumps Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. Do you mean competed or participated? There was a lot of participation by the support people, judges, loaders, pilots, manifest and such. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. Does this guy wear a MOJO around his neck and burn candles before jumping? I also call bull shit on this. Hitting the ground in the bag is easier on the canopy then taking a terminal opening. Think about it.
  7. The bag is easy to pack, if you can call any packing easy. I hate to pack. I wouldn't look for it on the market anytime soon. I made this one in 1997 or 1998 and its the only one I have seen. As far as "free packing" the lines, I don't think that is a good idea. When a canopy deploys there is metering and staging. Metering is some method of controlling how fast it opens or at what speed it will open. Staging is done to allow the canopy to deploy in an orderly manner. This is either lines first as with a D-bag or canopy first as when the lines are stowed in the pack tray. (not a good idea for squares) Lines stows on a D-bag are a way of controlling the lines during deployment. Another is the side pocket like on a reserve free-bag and on the D-bag I use. The side pocket does a good job of staging the lines and does not produce the bag whip that stows do. I hope this helps. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. And if the first stow does not release? You've tested this theory and you know this to be the case? I think if you do some testing it will show that most bag locks are caused by lines not stow band. That is the reason for controlling the lines for a staged deployment. 11. Swooping does not give Skydiving a bad name. Doing stupid thing while Swooping or Skydiving gives Skydiving a bad name. As with any other aspect of Skydiving, Swooping is not something that should be done without training. If you watch the top canopy pilots around today, what they can do with a canopy is mind blowing. But they didn't get there without training and working up to it slowly. Swooping scares the shit out of me, but it is really neat to watch and it is something that shows the excitement of Skydiving to earth bound woffos. 12. I use 2 tube stows to close the bag, the rest of the lines are in a pocket on the side of the bag. If there was such a thing as line dump, it would happen on every reserve deployment. A P/C produces over 100 pounds of drag at terminal speeds. If you think a bag lock is caused by a rubber band or a tube stow try this. Tie 100 pounds to a rubber band or tube stow and try to lift it off the ground. Try to do it with one swift move. Just think of you body weight hanging from one rubber band. I have over 1,000 jumps on this bag with no problems. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. Any reserve, round or square, can be used as a main. Most would require some modification first. Mains cannot be used as reserves, as a rule. They have not be certified through testing. ZP tends to "brick" when packed for longer periods of time, and high aspect ratio 9 cells are more apt to have opening "issues" Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. Subpart F—Parachute Riggers § 65.111 Certificate required. (b) No person may pack, maintain, or alter any main parachute of a dual-parachute system to be used for intentional parachute jumping in connection with civil aircraft of the United States unless that person— (1) Has an appropriate current certificate issued under this subpart; (2) Is under the supervision of a current certificated parachute rigger; (3) Is the person making the next parachute jump with that parachute in accordance with §105.43(a) of this chapter; or § 105.43 Use of single-harness, dual-parachute systems. (a) The main parachute must have been packed within 120 days before the date of its use of a certificated parachute rigger, the person making the next jump with that parachute or a non-certificated person under the direct supervision of a certification parachute rigger. 16. No hostility towards swoopers. Just wondering why they think they are right and the rest of the world is wrong. You are not evil for doing what you do. I think it is kind of cool. Not my thing, but cool. But I don't think I should have to alter my approach and where I land to fit your "window of opportunity" Any time you make a maneuver where you turn your back to the pattern or the landing area, like in a 270, with other jumpers present, you are creating a hazard. The term "biggish canopy" is kind of relative. I would guess what is big to you is little to me. The canopies I consider "biggish" do not spiral down. Do you think is OK for "littlish" (is that a word) canopies to spiral down? It bothers you but you tried it at a boogie at one of the largest DZ's in the country. Whats wrong with this picture. In almost 30 years of jumping I have been scared on the ground only a few times. And those few time were caused by swoopers come through the landing area, low and fast, using other jumpers as gates. Now they may be the best canopy pilot in the world, but when you don't know that it is not cool. It is scary. Please swoop to your hearts content. But remember to share the sky with those that choose not to swoop. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. I have never seen this happen even with the barrel unscrewed. I have seen the link open up to a "C" shape but the lines would not come off over the threads. Not upset, just that some things don't make sense, new or old. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. I did not say "barrel down". I said the barrel end to the riser. That puts the thread end of the opening to the lines. When was the last time you saw a line come off an open link? If you don't agree with this method, tell it to Dan. I just stated what the manual said. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. And what reason would you give for them not being airworthy? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. Why would you be standing in the middle of the landing area stowing your brakes? Seems to me that would be a good time to keep alert to the possibility of other canopies landing. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. PPM calls for them to be installed with the barrel end toward the riser and with the barrel to the inside on one riser and to the outside on the other. The theory being it prevents the barrels from banging on each other and they will lie flatter in the pack tray. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  22. You can try this one. But trying to compare canopy volumes is like herding cats. It is really tough and can change from day to day. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. You can't do this from 5k. 1st pic one of the bonus blocks from Rumble seat. I think this is the close of the block. The second pic is from the same jump and below the formation. This was our 11 second round. Actually 17 but take off the 6 seconds for the entire block. Great shots. If you did it in 17, you would have plenty of time from 5,000. 24. Ladybug, It was brought to my attention that a remark in my last post did not come across as I meant it to. I meant this as a tongue in cheek remark. I would never advocate someone the size of you husband, and with his experience, jump a 190 sq. ft. anything. Please accept my apology and convey it to you husband.
