  1. As a former S&TA at a large west coast DZ I think BSR's should never be waived for convenience at the expense of safety by anyone. It should not be put to a vote. The decision should be made by an official using sound judgment and common sense. It seems not everyone agrees with this. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. Because you have not offered a means to produce data. You have just criticized the lack of it. Like I said, if you can come up with more information, do it. If not, you are just making noise. I am done with you. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. Why is it that everyone has to adjust to fit in with what the "swoopers" what to do. If they do not want to fly a standard pattern, downwind, base, final, they should land out. Are they so special that long standing rules in all of aviation should be changed to accommodate them? jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. No, you missed the point again. This tread was not started using numbers to "make a case". Go back and read the first post. For information only, not for debate. And that my friend is the most accurate figures I can lay my hands on. If you can do better, do it. If not you are just making noise. So far you have failed to contribute one useful thought to this discussion. Move on. Sparky Lock it up Bill, its done. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. Looking back, why do you think the instructor stressed doing a PLF? Thats what instructors are for, to give you instruction on the proper way to do things. Tell you husband to jump the 190 and you jump the 220. What is he, a wimp? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. I have been using Flexvision goggles for years. They are cheap and last a long time. You can find them here. https://www.square1.com/Catalog/ Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. Paul, Judging from you D lic. # you have been around awhile. What did you pay for you first complete rig? What is the price of a complete rig now. Now take the price of a cypres and work back to when you bought that first rig and the price will not seem so bad. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. They make great water balloons. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  10. Jump a 245 Sharpchuter, go to 1/2 brakes at 1000 feet and watch which way the landing canopies drift after landing. They are a real big wind sock. Works for me. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. Haven't even seen one yet. But I see what is available. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. Like Sunshine said, that sounds like an awesome tool. Do they make it in a tooth brush? Thanks for the info. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. Its not just instructors. Every generation of new jumpers, every 15 to 18 years or so, have to re-learn all the lessons that the last generation already discovered. They view the last generation as used up burnouts that refuse to try "new" things. So they re-invent the wheel, kill off a bunch and cripple some more. 15 to 18 years latter, they find themselves trying rein in the latest flock of know-it-all's. And the beat goes on. 15. What type of chemicals are in it? What will your rig look ike in a few week when the chemicals start to react to UV and or dust? Just curious. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. If you pay for the suit, you can put anything you want on it. No one will say a thing. If they do, kick them in the.......knee. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. When you are in freefall, wiggle your toes inside your shoes. You will know right away where you feet are. If you do or ever have played football, tennis, baskeball or golf. put you legs about the same distance apart and went getting ready to block, receive a serve, defend the goal or hit a drive... 18. I think that is a rather offensive way of characterizing the debate. Wanting some data before taking action is not a "me me me" response. How would you like it if the FDA took the approach to approving new drugs that no analysis or testing was necessary? "Common sense" has proven to be incorrect on countless occasions. The difference in that argument is that the FDA errs on the side of saftey. At least in most cases. Without some study, how do you know which side safety is on? The experts thought Thalidomide was safe and that HRT was good for women. How many women taking Thalidomide were jumping a canopy loaded at 1.6/1 with less than 500 jumps and had red hair. 22. In PPM it calls for the cable, when an intermediate is used as terminal, to set back a specified distance. I am not at home so I can't check the figure. But you can find it in section 6-14 or 6-15 of Vol. I. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  24. Thanks for the laugh, Sparky. btw, 5,000' just might be all we get (altitude-wise) with all these frikin clouds we have here these days! 5000' is enough for a 10 second completion and a safe breakoff. Take a look at the times from the last few nationals. ltdiver In the mid 70's it was high enough to win the world meet. 18 sec. only puts you around 3,000 feet. Plenty of time, dock, turn. pull. 25. No! Sparky C'mon now Sparky - of course it's jumpable at least once You are right, all things are jumpable. Its the landings that can sometimes get messy. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
