  1. As far as I know nylon wasn't "discovered" until late during or after WW2 ended. All branches of the services were still using silk during that period. BTW there's noth.ing wrong with using recycled material as long as it meets it's specs. Mick Mick,, Found this through Google: Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. That is not a very good thing to remember in any situation. You just keep thinking that the toys will save your life and one day you may have a rude wake up call. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. This is a training problem and shouldn't be addressed by changing trim specs. of the canopy. Riser length does not determine the toggle stroke, the length of the jumpers are does. Anytime you change equipment from what the manufacture recommends you are becoming a test jumper and hoping you are right. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. The MC-4/MC-5 referres to just the harness/container system. The use the same MT-1X canopies, 370 sq. ft. 7 cell as the the old MT-1XX systems. Check Para-Flite web site for more information. Para-Flite Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. I got an email from him a couple of weeks ago and he said the job fell through. He will be doing the big way camp followed by Kate & Tony's 120 way sequential loads. I'll be doing them also so it likes I will be there most of the month too. Stop by and I buy you a cold one. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. No, the lower control lines are the same length in relation to the canopy. The toggles are not any closer to the canopy. Buy changing the length of the brake line you will change the brake trim of the canopy. This is from PD's web site, it might be easier to understand. I think what you are referring to is a Vertical Speed Indicator. VSI Since skydivers only go one direction, Down, there is not much call for them in skydiving. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. Why? It is still 4" from the top of the riser to the guide ring on risers 24" long or 15" long. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. I think most of them started by watching others. The word "apprentice" seems to pop into my head. Now it seems that since so few riggers are interested in teaching others, we've got to pay Skydive Chicago a thousand bucks for a 5 day course. _Am "You think and it seems." That sure enough proves your theory right. How much do you think it cost riggers that are riggers to get the knowledge needed before there was a "5 day course." I am not going to spoon feed anyone. If someone comes to me and wants to be a rigger and can't tell me the difference between Type VII and Type VIII webbing or even where to look for it, I am not going to waste my time. For every hour I spend teaching them they had better be willing to spend 2 to 3 hours learning. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. Any kind of opening at or below 2,500 feet is not premature at the DZ's I have jumped at. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. As a rigger it is not my job to take someone by the hand and lead them to do something that they won't take the time to do on their own. Riggers rig and very few that I know run a day care center for learning impaired jumpers who have not even read the label on how to wash their jumpsuit. The knowledge is there for those who want it. How do you think riggers became riggers. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. Ray Cottingham. Ray was shooting film in the sixteys and has won a gold medal as the video on a freestyle team. He always gets the shot and his equipment always works. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. A premature deployment at 2,500ft (as reported) is a hazard to other jumpers too. A deployment at 2,500 ft. (reported as 2090) in not considered premature by most standards. Why would the fact that it was deployed by an AAD change that? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
