  1. OK, you two, rent a room. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. Back in the day when 10 way was the only game in town, the base would wear an altimeter on the front of his helmet. That way everyone could see it with out looking down to his chest strap. There were no wrist mounts. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  4. Jim Woolley, who now run AERO, uses them to fire off a test item that needs to be at a given speed. Put so much weight on it, kick it out and have the cypres fire at an altitude that equals that speed. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. thanks John.. I'm glad to be able to skydive! I'm a left arm amputee, and its been fun jumping with all the other amputee jumps (Pieces of Eight) as well as the deaf, years ago when I got into the sport (1983) no one wanted to hassel / bother with extra time to teach deaf, I just got lucky as the DZ I started at already had a amputee jumper (Dan Adams) and the DZO remembered me stopping at airport a month before on solo flight for fuel... You're missing one arm and you are also deaf? Who in the hell did you piss off? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. Hell, live skydivers have been doing the same test almost every weekend.
  7. Now you really have my curiosity up. Some of my jumps over the years have been of a testing nature. From the R-2 and R-4 for ParaInovators to the new Navy Air Crew system, the Dura Pack. One thing I have learned, in any test program their will always be problems. And a good problem solver is worth his weight in gold. Is there any chance I have met you? And it is spelled Douris. 8. I don't think that is called “maintenance", it is called major repair. Would be 6 of one half dozen of the other. Have you ever done work on a harness?
  9. Who are you? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. Sandy, I am riding to Laughlin with Dennis Trepiner this weekend. Drive up and I will buy you dinner. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. Could you explain please? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. Um, sure, why not?. As long as they work, it's not like the FAA is going to check. Derek I got ramped checked by the FAA on a night demo a few years ago. All of us were wearing military type strobes. He mentioned that they were one of the few lights he would approve and he was prepared to pull our 7711-1 if we had not had them.
  13. Dave still rides a Harley. In fact he has ridden it around the world on one trip, around Australia on another and then rode from the Atlantic cost in France to the Pacific coast in Siberia. And the last one was during the winter. He has written 2 books about his trips, Riding the Edge about the trip around the world and Riding the Ice about the trip through the Siberian winter. I rig for him and we have lunch every so often. He is still tough as nails and one of those rare people you feel lucky to meet. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. [whisper]Psst... I think that was "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast."[/whisper] t And all this time I thought "slow was slow and fast was fast". Must be a carry over from 10 way speed star days. Good post Tonto. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. Even if you don't downsize for 1000 jumps your reserve is still overloaded. Hope you don't have to dump it a terminal. There is a reason there are limits on reserves. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. Do any of them meet the 3 mile requirement as per Part 105? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. It you feel around the damage and don’t feel any stiffness or hard rough texture it is not likely to be deployment damage. The way you have described the fibers being stretched and the one tear being “L” shaped sounds like it is ground damage. Snagging the canopy on something or dragging it across something. 18. I remember a dark haired beauty chasing Jerry Ryan around the fire at Perris way back when. She was trying to get him to pet Snoopy. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. But you haven't learned not to overload your reserve by 40 pounds or jump a W/L of 1.33 with under 200 jumps. But thats OK, you are a fast learner and can handle it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. It would be one way of assuring that the student program was operating in a way that you agree with. All it takes is money and lots of time from what I hear. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. I think it would be easier to say "so many pounds" or "so many kg." I have never seen a fish scale in daN. Most of what it takes to pull your pin from the loop has to do with new style of protective flap causing resistance on the bridle. If the bridle has an unrestricted pull on the pin it does not take more than 10 pounds to pull the pin if you did not use tools to close the rig. No matter how tight the loop is. 22. As a rated S/L instructor, you are already a party to policy by acting as jumpmaster for a student you knew was not trained for the jump by a rated instructor. Ethically you have only one way to go. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. Damn good idea. It seems obvious, but I have seen people cutaway their main when their reserve is due for repack. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. A kid named Rob, he used to work out of Ground Zero at Elsinore.
  25. You might try ParaGear, they list MC-4 and MC-5 in their catalog. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
