  1. As a rigger you are held to the same standard when you pack a main as when you pack a reserve. And packing includes setting the brakes, un-stowing the slider and any other tasks required to pack the parachute as recommended by the manufacture. § 65.129 Performance standards. No certificated parachute rigger may— (e) Pack, maintain, or alter a parachute in any manner that deviates from procedures approved by the Administrator or the manufacturer of the parachute; If non-riggers are doing the packing they are to be under "direct supervision" of a rigger. And that rigger is saying that the rig is packed according to procedures as in (e) above. § 105.43 Use of single-harness, dual-parachute systems. (a) The main parachute must have been packed within 120 days before the date of its use of a certificated parachute rigger, the person making the next jump with that parachute, or a non-certificated person under the direct supervision of a certification parachute rigger. 2. No, I do not think I will look around for others, I am not the one claiming millions use front risers on reserves. I have never thought of my reserve as "just another canopy" and never will. I have no doubt you do exist, and the way you are playing footsy I have no doubt we have meet. But you seem to be more at ease standing in the dark and taking shoots. Your own actions appear to validate this point. This is fast becoming subject drift. If you wish to continue with this discussion please feel fee to PM me. 3. I could vouch Sparky, for at least a part of that statement! And I don't want to know what part. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. If I pack your reserve it will cost you $50.00. That includes an inspection of everything TSO'd on the rig. If you want me to pack the main that is also $50.00. That is because I am held to the same standard when packing a main as I am packing a reserve. Jumpers need to become more pro-active in maintaining and understanding their gear. Packing for yourself at least once a week is a good place to start. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. Part of what made is seem longer is a condition called Temporal Distortion. (see attachment) And part of it is the fact the newer FF friendly gear can trap the bridle and make it harder for the pull of the PC to get to the pin. And finally the pack trays of newer gear, with the stitched up corners, can make it harder to pull the bag free of the pack tray at the slower speed of a true H&P. The curved pin in even a very tight rig will release with as little as 10 pounds. Next time you pack, leave the proctor flap open and pick your rig up off the ground by the bridle. 6. The problem is if you speak up you will get zero support from your fellow jumpers, trust me, I know. They just want to jump and have fun, they do not want to take a stand. Derek And yet another problem with skydiving - you're never sure if you're supporting someone in their quest to make it a safer/better sport, or if you're helping to perpetuate a personal/political grudge by expressing outrage over a 10 year old incident. If you are a regular at a DZ and a fellow jumper makes an issue of safety practices you know if his concerns are real or if he is just grand standing. In either case, it up to each jumper to take a stand on what he knows to be true and not stick their head in the sand. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  8. Scott, I docked on your right leg on the first CSRW. Kidney cancer going on 5 years clean. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. OK, thats 3 of the top canopy pilots in the world. Who are the other "thousands" of other people that front riser their reserves? If you define using front risers as HP landings then you are judging and are wrong. I have used front and rear risers on different canopies starting with a small Piglet and a PC. But I do not do it on my reserve.

  11. Yes, it would take a Master rigger to do it. As far as affectiing the TSO. With the FAA, its any bodies guess. From FAA Part 65 § 65.125 Certificates: Privileges. (b) A certificated master parachute rigger may— (1) Pack, maintain, or alter any type of parachute for which he is rated; § 65.129 Performance standards. No certificated parachute rigger may— ((d) Alter a parachute in a manner that is not specifically authorized by the Administrator or the manufacturer; (e) Pack, maintain, or alter a parachute in any manner that deviates from procedures approved by the Administrator or the manufacturer of the parachute; I do not know any Master riggers that would do it. 12. How many thousands of people front riser their reserve? I was not judging, just giving my opinion. And how would you know if I front riser my canopy or not. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  14. I doubt most tandem operations clear $100 per jump. $150 minus two slots equals $110, minus $20-$25 for packing and maintanence, leaving $90 or less. Give the tandem instructor $35, the rig owner is left with about $50 or so, from which he still has to pay for the $10,000 plus rig. Even if he/she is losing money on every jump, do it right or let someone else do it. If what was described here did happen it would or should be criminal. That is willful disregard for someone’s life. If they can't pay for the rig in the useful life of the main they need to take some business classes. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. You main does not effect the way you fly while in freefall. Sparky While in freefall - you are Falling not Flying Then you ain't doing it right! Wayne Yea, what he said. Try to get some coaching, it may help.
  16. You have a friend that is about as smart as a bag of rocks. We should start a poll on this one, for sure. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. It may look like a duck, it may sound like a duck. But it is your reserve parachute, the last thing you have that is going to possibly keep you from being a mass of mush and splintered bone. So you keep thinking ducks and there is a good chance you will meet the reaper. He is always looking for new friends like you. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  19. Losers! Wait until you get my bill for the slink. Zippers were smoken. I will have to admit that Remy won the most heats.
  20. You have got to be the only guy I know that can stop in some place named Voss and score a Demo. Damn, how does he do that. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  22. Do you think a HP landing maneuver is the smart thing to do on your reserve? After all, how many jumps do you have on the canopy? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. "Sometimes it is better to keep quite and thought a fool then to speak up and remove all doubt." You must understand how something works before you can say it "is working". Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. A reserve canopy is just a canopy to fly. When you go to your reserve you are no longer sport jumping, you are trying to save your life. If you feel your reserve is just another canopy, you need to re-evaluate your participation in skydiving. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  25. Like everyone has said, Jumpsuit. Of all the gear and things you can and do buy to skydive with, a jumpsuit will affect the way you fly more than any of the rest of your gear. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
