  1. And it was all started by Mike Fury. A very good friend of mind lives on the east end of Lake Mary. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wow! The last time I jumped in Germany was 1987. It was still called WEST Germany and some of you were not even born! Hey Rob, will you sign my log book?
  3. I could not find it either. I will have to get on Ivan's ass and get a copy. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  5. I think you left out the choice that most people would pick. “I don’t know if my home DZ puts profit above safety”. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. The cracking red cable was an issue with one batch when it was being introduced. I think it is far to say the yellow (Lolon) cable is extremely tough and the red (teflon) cable is not as tough. but when people do not clean and lubricate their cutaway cables (and no one I know does) then which one would be better? The red cable is maintenence free. I also wonder if the red cable is compatable with metal riser inserts. Anyway, what was the root cause of the original posters problem??? rm Discussing which one is better and which one is easier to cutaway with is a waste of time. It doesn’t matter what John Sherman says about his rigs and the use of red cable. The fact is that the vast majority of rigs manufactured today have systems that us the yellow cable. The yellow cable should be removed, inspected, cleaned and lubed with silicone at least every 30 days. Risers, especially Type 17, that are used with yellow cable should have metal inserts in the cable channel. I think it is far better to listen to the man that invented the 3-ring system then people that have changed one part of that system. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. Go to Air Trash site and look at the picture of Sled's ash dive. I am the one wearing smoke in the orange suit. If you make a couple hundred jumps a year you will live forever. That is my plan and So Far, So Good! Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. Regardless of their motives or if the pilot knew about it or not, it shows a mind set that would make me question how many other things they let slide. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. Hand him an Accident report form and have him fill out Section I. Will save you a lot trouble later. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. What is that dirt area used for? Other than a landing area for demo jumpers. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  12. Congratulations, way to go Lady. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. I have not found a down side to the one I use. I use Dacron lines so I don't have the Velcro snag problem that spectra does. As mentioned before, tuck tabs might be better if you leave about 3 inches in the center for the lines to play out. Then again, if the line hangs up and a tuck tap doesn't release. I would have to give one a try for a couple of hundred jumps, some with slo-mo film, before I would feel comfortable with it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. The pocket keeps them in order and they play out smoothly without the bag whip caused by stows on either side of the bag. Rubber bands do not slow down the bag enough to even worry about. They are only there to keep them neat until line stretch. The 2 locking stows keep the canopy in the bag until line stretch. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  18. I am not at all familiar with the Safire2 but opening at speeds above 150/160 mph is going to be brutal. How much do you weigh out the door? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. I think it was 1.5 ripstop. F-111 did not come out until about March of 1979. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. I tend to agree with you. I may have inspected it, certified it as airworthy and packed it up, but it was the jumper with a wad of shit above his/her head that made it work. jmo But if they insist, I will take the bottle of Kettle One and pat them on the back and say “Good job, will done, faithful service a copy of this will be made a part of your permanent record”. 21. Not having any rigging understanding, I'll have to trust you on that one, but I can add that he has a rarer quality: the ability to explain that knowledge. And that is a skill that harder to learn than the rigging. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  22. While spectra will allow your canopy to go faster due to less drag, in most cases the jumper does not have access to the equipment that can measure the difference. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. I'm sorry to read this. While this thread will never have the appeal of "So you want to be a rigger," I think FrogNog asked questions many of us would like answers to. I really liked your excellent posts on binding inside and outside corners, and that leads me to believe your PM response to this query is well-written, authoritative, and informative. Can I convince you to post your PM's contents? Thanks, Mark I agree. Kevin, you have the knowledge and the skill. Share it please. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
