  1. Here are some pictures of the bag I use. Like Robert said, it does not have a #8 grommet, it uses a #5 SS and the closing stow bands pass through #2 SS. Make it the same size as the bag you use now only but a pocket on the same side as the closing flap. If I get the time I will try and post a working drawing of how it is built. 5. From AS-8015B: 4.3.3 Compressed Pack and Environmental Tests: Three drops shall be made to the lowest applicable direct drop speed in 4.3.6 except that prior to the test the parachute assembly shall be subjected to the following preconditioning: (These tests may be combined with other tests.) 4.3.3.1 Precondition for 16 h at not less than +200 °F (93.3 °C), stabilize to ambient and test drop. 4.3.3.2 Precondition for 16 h at not greater than -40 °F (-40 °C), stabilize to ambient and test drop. 4.3.3.3 Precondition for not less than 400 continuous hours with a 200 lbf (889.6 N) or greater load applied to compress the pack in a manner similar to that most likely to be encountered in actual use. Test drop within 1 h after removing the load. Canopies are tested to with-stand both cold and heat, but not being wet and then cold. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. An airplane can be put in a stall condition at any airspeed and at any power setting. It has to do with the wing producing or not producing lift. The stall warning horn on a Cessna is a small free floating tap on the leading edge of the wing. In normal flight the relative wind holds this tab in a down position. If the angle of the wing exceeds a given degree to the relative wind, the tab is pushed up by the wind. This closes a circuit and the horn goes off. When climbing in turbulent air the bouncing of the aircraft can cause this tab to flutter even when a stall is not eminent. If you fell the pilot is flying in an unsafe manner, and make sure of your fact first, say something to the DZO and refuse to fly with him/her. Complaining about it on dz.com will not change the situation. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. At least in the US, a parachute does not need a transponder at any altitude. I have jumped as high as 30,000 msl and opened as high as 25,000 msl without a transponder. But it is cold as shit. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  13. John, I started in 1976 and my FJC was $55.00. When off student status and the D-18 came to Perris, around late 1976 early 1977 jump prices to 12,500 feet were $7.50. That was with my own gear. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. Here are some prices off of Square One's web site. They reflect a 20% discount. Main, PD Spectre 210 - $1544.00 Reserve, PD 218R - $984.00 Container, Javelin - $1537.50 TOTAL $4065.50 You can pay more, you can pay less. This is just for the rig and canopies. It does not include jumpsuit, altimeter or an AAD. Sparky P.S. Most people make 600 to 1000 jumps a year do not pay full price for gear or jumps. They are sponsored or work in the industry. 16. First of all as a tutor or coach he is there to coach and advise not to dictate. Unless he is doing this for nothing, he works for the team, as in hired help. 4 way at the nationals exits at 10,500 feet (I believe) and has 35 seconds of working time. In 35 sec. you cover 5,500 feet. That means after you freefall through 5,000 feet agl your working time is over. Breaking at 4,500 gives you a couple of sec. cushion and keeps your jump more realistic to what competition will be like. If you don’t want to go to 4,000 feet don’t. Calmly state your case to your teammates, without the coach there. If they agree with you on this, go to the coach and tell him that on future jumps break off will be 4,000 feet. Case closed. 22. It's not rocket science. A good, non-painful harness can be made very simple without the use of springs, bungee cords or inertial counterbalance devices. They can be made to use the jumper’s own harness without unpacking the main and without pulling their reserve. No need to over complicate a simple device.
