Kelly is in the business of manufacturing gear. Why would he hook up someone whose only goal is to cut out as much profit as he can? Hell most dealers drop the price by 20 to 25%. How much more margin do you think there is in a rig? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I had a complete harness replacement on a 1997 Javelin for $250 + shipping. That included new cutaway and reserve handles due to updates in the harness configuration. As for the OP, all that shit should have been dealt with before buying the rig. It was not such a good bargain if the damn thing does not fit your needs. should it be required to jump without an AAD?
mjosparky replied to shermanator's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Quit trying to rationalize not having an AAD yourself. You list yourself as a freefall photographer which means you found the money to by a camera setup. If you choose to jump without an AAD that’s your call. Why should others follow your lead and not take advantage of available safety devices. How would you respond to those that say all jumpers MUST have an AAD to jump? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
What ever the a/c it will have to be done outside of the US. A/C capable of doing are unavailable in the US due to liability issues and the FAA. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Swaging is a form of cold forging. In the Capewell incident it was a matter of the metal folding over on itself creating a pocket or void. It was due to worn out dies. The pressure of swaging should create enough heat for the metal to flow and thus be solid in its new form. In a properly done swage the pin/ball will flow into and become part of the cable. You should read this then. . Jan, The problem was not with the swage but with a lack of a swage. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Good god. The gear industry has gone insane!

If you were not having fun before why the hell were you jumping. After all skydiving is just recreation. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Who has the most jumps without a cutaway??

Who has the most jumps without a cutaway??

Who cares? You are only as good as your last jump. Jim Wallace has 20,000 + jumps and Dan BC has more than that. The important thing is they are still alive. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Start by contacting the manufacture of the canopy. Ask them what size the grommets are and what is the reason for that size. Rigging changes can sometimes cause more problems than they solve. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

talk to your instructors! (help a retarded moron)
mjosparky replied to virgin-burner's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I do not consider myself a “skygod”, far from it. But I am a guy who survived over 30 in the sport of skydiving. I did this by listening to those who had come before me and learning everything I could about gear. One thing I have learned over the year is an RSL will save your life with little or no down side. Ask your mentor to name one case where a RSL or Skyhook has killed someone. No you gave someone eles's reasons. Do the research and come up with your own decision before you blindly discard proven safety devices. Stating they are only for retards that can’t master their EP’s is the panicle of arrogance. Jim, I think you are wrong. I think he sounds like a crybaby that got his feeling hurt. And his 10,000-jump mentor is the one that is the retarded moron for handing out such shit advice. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
This is bound to get me flamed but here goes. A quote from your profile, “which usually involves telling them that they are whiny spoiled brats.” And a quote from your post, “Hell, that's why US is $790BLN in CC debt.” In the past I have referred to the recent crop of jumpers, last 10 years, as the “entitlement generation”. During their formative years they were provided with what ever they wanted so as not to make them feel deprived. When they were kicked out of the nest someone provided them with a credit line that they lacked the maturity to handle or the income to repay in a timely manner. This allowed them to buy what ever they wanted and do what they wanted. The result is the CC dept you mention and mortgage foreclosure at a rate never before seen. Don’t get me wrong; it is a very small percentage of people in that group put themselves in this position. But even with a small percentage some of them turned out to be skydivers. If you fit in this category you know it. Your training, your gear and most of your jumps are paid for with a CC with a balance you can’t pay off within one year. You drive a cool ride that is financed on a 5 to 7 year loan. My last three years of jumping I spent over $10,000 a year on jumps, tunnel time, gear and travel. And I am a retired senior citizen on a fixed income. Skydiving is not cheap, get used to it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

It is aviation related activity and will always be an elitist sport of sorts. It is a recreation activity paid for with disposable income. How many people do you think have $7,000 to $10,000 to throw away on fun? Gear is a petroleum-based product and jumping depends on petroleum to continue. Encroachment of the suburbs with more and more complaints about the noise and you have fewer and fewer places available to jump. As Airtwardo said, economics with kill skydiving. Welcome to reality. Want to buy a Fullface Helmet, what is a good one?
mjosparky replied to Solan's topic in Gear and Rigging
They are all good. Buy one that is popular at your DZ and parts are easy to come by. When it breaks you can fix it quickly and people around you will be able to tell you how. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
