    I agree with you 100%. USPA is not a trade organization but the GMP makes it one. DZO’s have their own business interest at heart and have no place on the BOD of an organization that is supposed to be an advocate to their customers. That’s the fox guarding the chickens. Tail pocket or as you say “tailgate” was an invention of Hank Ascuitto in the early 80’s to control lines during deployment on free packed mains. Had nothing to do with BASE. As a rigger you know that is just a version of the flat pack. What is the difference between old 7 cells and “modern day BASE canopies”?     There is no modern “base” gear. Anything you are using today is just a rehash of things used 25+ years ago. The tail pocket, mesh slider to the meticulous flat pack. As for “free packing” I have over 500 jumps with free packing. How many do you have? Until you know my knowledge you might want to save your “sad”.     What killed USPA’s chances of defending itself is that USPA put itself in a non-defensible position by confusing their mission. They are not there to defend DSO’s against other businesses but to act in the best interest of the individual membership. They have tried to turn USPA into a trade organization and have forgotten that USPA is a private club originally started for the benefit of the members.     Stratostar is 100% right. There are pilots all across the country flying jumpers with just a private lic. This has been brought up before on this site and the very jumpers that are flying with those pilots rush to their defense. They claim he is a “good guy and knows what he is doing”. Well he has not proved to anyone that he knows what he is doing.” As for being a good guy he is a liar and a cheat. I know of one, who was a USPA DZO, he required people to show log books and lic. but he did not have a comm. Lic. He lied to USPA and to everyone who jumped his a/c. He put his instructors at risk for a law suit because of his lie. He was and is a cheat and a liar. When the FAA looked to the matter they attacked the one who reported the situation and let him slide. Any jumper at small dz with a DZO as the pilot should ask to see his/her lic.
