I have read through this entire thread, some parts twice. It is sad that so many jumpers have such a poor understanding of the gear they wear and how the various components parts work and interact with each other. Most sound like they are repeating what they have heard and have no idea what it means. Skydiving gear is not rocket science. Instead of over thinking it spend time learning just how it works and you will see just how simple it really is. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Back in the day no pull/low pull incidents were the largest percentage of fatalities. In recent years they account for only 7% of fatalities. The reason for this turn around is always up for debate but I am sure the increased use of AAD’s and RSL’s has a lot to do with it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

It doesn’t you have to wear anything. It says that if you are wearing a “single harness” it will meet the following conditions. I wonder what is required if you are not wearing a "single harness" syste? Sparky 105.43 Use of single-harness, dual-parachute systems. No person may conduct a parachute operation using a single-harness, dual-parachute system, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow any person to conduct a parachute operation from that aircraft using a single-harness, dual-parachute system, unless that system has at least one main parachute, one approved reserve parachute, and one approved single person harness and container that are packed as follows: My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Have all the riggers started complaining yet?
mjosparky replied to SimpleJack's topic in Gear and Rigging
Scott you are lying again. That is not you D lic. number. You should also brush up on your math. If you get a repack every 120 days at $50 bucks a pop it would cost you $150 a year to keep you rig in date. If you get it packed every 180 at $70 a pop it would cost you $150 a year to keep your rig in date. You cost of jumping due to what your rigger charges has not gone up at all. All your whining was for nothing. BOO HOO Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

IIt seems that anything you don’t like or agree with is “IRRELEVANT”. You seem to like that word. Well I can live with that. You are starting to nag like an ex wife so any further discussion with you would be “irrelevant”. Door closed. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

ya know, Sparky - if you are going to state that I have motives, and judge me based on them, it would be nice if you respond and let me (us) know what those motives are. Or is it a foot meets mouth situation ? BTW, this is a 3rd request from me... It is my opinion that your motives are similar to your motives for making such an issue about what I think your motives are. Say that 3 times real fast. To defend your position of not using a broker for a transaction between 2 unknowns because you are so trust worthy. That’s your opinion and you are entitled to it. If other people what to operate that way that to is fine. Considering there are 3 pages of usernames in the Security and Scam Alert forum I think using a broker is a smart way to handle gear transitions. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?forum=44; I didn’t insist on anything, I just told you my conditions of the sale. And if you remember you declined to buy the rig under those conditions. Where is the trust, the “verify the sellers credibility”, the “verify the references and send the $$$”? How about them apples? You know what they say about opinions and you are entitled to yours. I am a "grumpy old man". And as for me pissing you off, trust me you are not the first and I am sure you won’t be the last. And I have no idea who you are. But it is evident that you checked my profile you will notice that it includes my name. You are really thin skinned for a skydiver. Quoteit is irrelevant whose credibility is being questioned, as i believe any more information will skew the poll. That depends on which side of the fence you happen to be on. Buying and selling gear is something like being under 2,000 feet. You have no friends. You post here anonymously and yet you ask someone who has never met to trust you. NWFlyer figured out your motives for the poll and you took the ad down. How do you think this reflects on your creditability? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
While the FAA requires you wear at least a single harness dual canopy rig it says nothing for or against wearing a second harness with a third canopy. I have used this type of system on TSO testing several times. a. Parachute Equipment. FAR Section 105.43 requires a parachutist making an intentional jump to wear a single harness dual pack parachute having at least one main parachute and one approved auxiliary/reserve parachute. The main pack need not be an approved type, but the auxiliary/reserve pack and the harness are required to be an FAA-approved type. The FAA issues a TSO which specifies the minimum performance standard for materials, parts, processes, or appliances used on civil aircraft. (See FAR Part 43, Appendix A(4).) The following are examples of approved parachutes as explained in FAR Section 105.43(d). A military harness and chest mount reserve qualify as “approved” under Part 105. 105.3____ Definitions. For the purposes of this part— Approved parachute means a parachute manufactured under a type certificate or a Technical Standard Order (C–23 series), or a personnel-carrying U.S. military parachute (other than a high altitude, high speed, or ejection type) identified by a Navy Air Facility, an Army Air Field, and Air Force-Navy drawing number, an Army Air Field order number, or any other military designation or specification number. I think most people are confusing being a “professional skydiver” with “professionalism”. The two do not always go hand in hand. Plus you can be a professional skydiver and not work at a drop zone. A “professional skydiver” is one who makes money jumping. It could be part of or all of his/her income but they file that income on their tax form. They receive a W-2 or a 1099 from the people who hired them and they can write off their expenses. As Rob said some do this with “professionalism” and some are an embarrassment to the industry. For those that know him, Jim Wallace is an excellent example of a “professional skydiver” who exudes “professionalism” in everything he does. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Basically what he said. This is going to get me flamed but so what. It is the “Entitlement Generation” convinced they are entitled to do what they want when they want. They refuse to consider that they might make a mistake and could care less about the rights and safety of others. This is just my opinion, rant over. Before the rush to Velcro-less risers on mains you almost never heard of a “brake fire” on deployment. There are a couple of reasons in my opinion but that is another topic. The fact is a brake fire on a low reserve deployment would ruin your day. Plus I doubt they would make it through the TSO testing process. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
