  1. 245 sq. ft. Sharpchuter. Tight demo or open field. I have never hear a demo jumper land and say, "damn I had way to much canopy for the demo." Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. This is a capewell. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. The smart ones do something like that. You can use a rigger in the area or in some cases the DZO will agree to it. Both parties send their part of the deal, gear/money to the “broker” and if everything checks out the “broker” makes the exchange. Some riggers will charge a modest fee for this service but it is better than getting hosed. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. SPEED, a reserve made by Paratec packs as small as the optimum from PD and flys very well. bigway Thanks but the speed has nothing to do with this thread. If you don't want to wait forever on the optimum, order the Speed reserve bigway The thread is asking about PD optimums, not you trying to sell Speed reserves I ordered a pd 160 reserve in June from them and got it in July, bigway Talking about the PD Optimum, not the PD reserve. It seems some people haven't seen the ball since kick off. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. What you end up doing is wasting jumps trying to learn 2 new things. You should concentrate on learning the basic of flying you body first that is what the 200 jump limit is attempting to do. Get real good at being is the exact spot in the air at the exact time you want to. Sounds simple but try it a few times. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  9. That’s your position and you have every right to hold that opinion. But the fact is your position goes against the main stream thinking of how best to train newer jumpers to survive in this sport. The habits you develop early on as a jumper are what you will revert to when things start going to shit in a fast and furious way. As was stated earlier unless you fall asleep after pulling the cutaway handle you should have already pulled the reserve by the time you have an open canopy. You have nothing else to do with this time so why waste it. Is there any particular reason you chose not to use and RSL? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. I see that you have 17 years in the sport and jump a cypress. I would think that you know enough about your gear to understand how the information on this woman’s AAD was gathered. She did not have a malfunction but for some reason did not pull her main. Just before impact she did pull the reserve and had partial line deployment. It takes patience and time but in most cases the sequences of events can be determined. So to answer your question, yes, in a way she did tell us what happened after she went in. 11. I think the point people are trying to get across is complete your EP’s so that it will become automatic. You know the old muscle memory thing. You state the equipment worked right you are alive and “who cares”. This attitude can and does lead to complacency about procedures and a dependency on back up equipment. I am not saying this it going happen to you but it could. For 30 years I have watched jumpers who have the whole range of skill and experience slowing get complacent and end up paying the ultimate price. When you are in the air never take anything for granted. Go through you EP’s as if there were not RSL or AAD. Just you and high speed dirt. And you may not believe but there a lot of people who care. 12. You have got to be kidding me. Do you understand how and RSL works? I suggest you spend some time learning you gear and how best to use it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. I think in the long run you would do better to concentrate on flying you canopy, avoiding collisions with other canopies and locating a safe place to land. Leave the tech. toys for when you are on the ground. Like Scott said, if you could make it work by the time you got the data you would not need it. 14. And then there was the system used for awhile by ParaFlite. A second line attached to the lower control line. I was pulled down and through the ring and the toggle stowed in a loop in the end. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. AC-105-2c says: “authorization should be submitted at least 4-working days before the intended jump”. The instructions for 7711-2 state: “Application for a Certificate of Waiver or Authorization must be submit-ted 45 days prior to the requested date of the event.” If I wanted to ensure the best chance for the Authorization to be granted I would lean toward the 45 day. 16. In my first post I encluded a link to the form that can be fill out on you computer and printed out. Makes it nice and easy. You can mail it in but it is usally better to hand walk it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. It’s really not the pilot’s responsibility to file the 7711-2. There are several reasons they would say no. If it is into a stadium they will require all the jumpers to Pro Rated, the application did not provide the required information or they felt the landing area was not adequate. They will let the chopper fly because it is flying and the jumpers are falling over and into a congested area. Recent history of jumpers taking out spectators during demos or just screwing themselves into the ground also has a ripple effect at other FSDO offices. Try to set something up for a later date complete and the paperwork and walk it through yourself. In the mean time you might visit the FSDO office and introduce yourself and make them fell all warm and fuzzy. It helps. 19. TSO costs are ongoing. Every piece of TSO’d equipment manufactured has a stack of paperwork following it around the shop. Everything used to make the rig, thread, fabric, grommets, webbing and such, is track as to source, lot and batch. You can take any rig back to the manufacture and trace where the thread was made and track it all the way to the finished container system. It is time and labor intensive. 20. He is not a "little person" he is jumping a BIG rig. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. On a skydiving rig when the shit hits the fan you only have 2 handles. One is on the right and one is one the left. Hook your thumbs in both and pull the right one first. I see no reason for them to be made of different materials. jmo Sparky Sarcasm, me? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  23. I located another picture that shows the handle better. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. No but I have hooked knife the fouled break and landed on risers. If you carry a hook knife in a easily accessible place on you gear/jumpsuit and you include going to your hook knife as part of your mental EP practice it can be done is a matter of seconds. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  25. See pictures. They are much easier to use, as likestojump said, hook a thumb in each handle and go right, left. Some people say it is safer if they have a different feel. If you can't tell your right from you left maybe you not be jumping. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
