For all 4.3.6 tests the maximum allowable altitude loss for parachutes with a maximum operating weight of 250 lb (113.4 kg) or less is 300 ft (91.5 m) from the altitude at pack opening. For parachutes with a maximum operating weight of greater than 250 lb (113.4 kg) the maximum allowable altitude loss shall be increased by 1 ft for every pound of maximum operating weight in excess of 250 lb (113.4 kg). NOTE: Altitude loss measurements must be measured along a vertical trajectory only. However, the deviation from the vertical produced by a gliding main parachute descending with a vertical velocity of less than 20 FPS (6.1 m/s) shall be acceptable. The fact that the TI’s in question went through a TI course shows that they were aware of it and at the time agreed with it. Their one job as a TI is risk management on a jump that someone else has paid for. Instead they turned that jump into a playground for their own enjoyment. The knowledge has always been there. What I have learned jumping I learned because I was fortunate enough to know some of those that are now passing. There was a time when I was pretty fast in the air. Had a guy at Elsinore ask me where I learned to go so fast. I told him I learned it from the guys that invented it. They should have the ratings pulled to separate them from and unknowing public. I didn’t see any personal attacks but I did see some people flaming the actions of thoughtless and reckless individuals. I can’t help you with a place to jump a glider but thought I would tell you about mine. It was an Air Show in California. I jumper a Blanik towed to altitude by a Wilga. The Wilga had 3 other jumpers in it. At about 9,000 AGL the glider cut loose from the Wilga and the Wilga did a 360 and came up off our wing tip. As we passed over the airport I went out of the glider and the others left the Wilga. We had a 4 way at about 6,000 AGl. It was cold a shit because we had to take the canopy off the glider. What you experienced is called Temporal Distortion, common in high speed, high stress situations. It can be really dangerous. While you perceive things as having slowed down they are in fact moving a normal speed. This lulls you into thinking you have more time to deal with a problem and before you know it you have run out of altitude. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
