I think one or both of you should bring the listing audience up to speed on this little drama. As it is you both look a little silly. Justin you for making a veiled threat in a community as small as skydiving and posting anonymously and you Gary for giving him a platform to run his mouth. Maybe you should take it to the parking lot and sell tickets. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I have never been paid. We just do them for cost. The Demos we do around here are not typically big events and its hard to ask for to much more than the cost to do the demo. Until something goes wrong and someone cuts away a $2000 main never to be seen again. Every time you do a demo for “nothing” you are telling the client that is what you feel your services are worth. Two of the hardest things to learn as a demo jumper are to charge fees that reflect the value of services offered and when to say no. And the no can be for safety, financial reasons or a combination of both. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

For riding a kid’s sled head first down a 90 mph ice chute a Z1 would not be my first choice in stylish head protection. They probably buy them so they will have some place to put there Pro Track. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I can think of one such situation....it cost more than a few bucks to get there and do the jump but I think both of us on the list for the next time they do it. Its funny how conducting yourself in a professional manner year after year can open doors when you least expect it. Sparky Like I said that day, Thanks Jim. Once you get down what in the hell are you going to do. You can take gripps or even fly your slot in that position. You come out of the position and you will pop back up. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Winter 2010 USPA BOD Meeting....
mjosparky replied to diablopilot's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The short answer is they don't. I personally know of one Member DZ that was had some serious violations of the FAR’s and therefore the BSR’’s. USPA was notified 3 or 4 times over a period of 5 years. The action they chose was to ignore it. It took a plane crash to close down. The Group Member Program serves the needs of privately owned business, DZO, not the individual jumper. The BOD is controlled by the very people the Program is supposed to police. But for the paltry sum of $55.00 its one hell of a deal………Last year! Blue Sky, Black Death... ...oh wait, was that too much information too? Robin, an old guy named Will Rogers once said "If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging". Time to put the shovel down. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

There are some 16,300 replies, over 400 pages in this tread. And no one knows anymore than they did when the tread was started. Talk about a waste of band width. None of witch has anything to do with skydiving. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

No canopy is stable when it is stalled to the point of folding up. It is no longer flying it is a bait ball. Make sure to do it up high. While it “bow tied” the pilot chute might just end up where you don’t want it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Keep a close eye on the zip ties. Repeated exposure to the cold of altitude and UV rays from the sun will make them brittle. ProTrack used to come with zip ties and most people went to 50 lb wax cord to attach it to there helmet. If done right and tied off with a surgeons knot wax cord will work much better than the zip ties. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

(Old) picture of the premature opening in the aircraft door
mjosparky replied to peek's topic in Safety and Training
I made my first jump in Feb '64. The dzo ( who was really never around ) had a D-license, the next most experienced guy had just gotten his C-license ( ~75-80 jumps ), the 'chief' instructor had all of 35 jumps. The guy who put me out was an old-timer with ~45 jumps. It is the way it was, JerryBaumchen There used to be a jumper at Perris named Tommy Owens, may he RIP. Deli will remember him. He used to tell the story of his first jump. It was in 1962 and his instructor was Bill Stage may he RIP. At the time Bill was the skygod because he had survived 11 jumps. Tommy went on to become part of the world record 10 man baton pass and Bill ended up SCR-5 and put me out on static line a few year later. Student progression was different back then and after just a few jumps Tommy was on his own. He would go up to 7,500, jump out and he said it was always sky, earth, sky, earth, sky, earth, pull. After going through this a few times he decided to ask someone for help. Since there wasn’t wind tunnel in the area he went to his instructor. By this time Bill was a true skygod with over 20 jumps. Tommy told Bill about the sky, earth thing and asked what he was doing wrong. Bill looked at him with a straight face and said, “I don’t know but as soon as I figure it out I will let you know”. True story, times have change a bit. Some good and some not so good. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

The place you started at was an airport just not a very big airport. If there is a runway, any kind of runway and a plane to land on it you have an airport. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Believe it or not there are people don’t think they look like a “gum ball machine” trinket and are proud of the accomplishment they represent. If you don’t like them that’s cool. But you don’t have to rain on other people’s parade. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Situation I never thought of until it happened
mjosparky replied to jacketsdb23's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You are confusing a spin induced G load with a static load which will not cause G-LOC. What is there to figure out? The chart is the result of testing. They applied X amount of load to a riser and measured the force needed to pull the release. Don’t try to read anything into it and don’t over complicate it. Situation I never thought of until it happened
mjosparky replied to jacketsdb23's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Dave, I am familiar with the incident you are talking about. In fact I have seen part of the video that was taken of the exit. It was my opinion then and I believe latter confirmed latter that he was in G-LOC within 2 to 3 revolutions. It is not just the G load but also the speed of onset. In this case he probably generated 4 to 6 G’s in the first 360 to 540 degrees of rotation. The chart was developed by the then RWS and I am not sure of the conditions. Skyhook on student gear - what should the student know?
mjosparky replied to MartinOlsson's topic in Safety and Training
At first glance, I don't see that I would be changing anything for FJC. For later gear knowledge, yes, I would explain it with respect to skyhook operation. I would also explain the difference between common-RSL and skyhook-RSL operation. That means they would have more information and knowledge then some jumpers with over 1,000 jumps.
